《Last Chance✔ (Completed)》Chapter Nine

After leaving Em's around 7:30 pm I decide to head back to the pack house to meet Noah. When I arrive the security guys let me in and I head to the right wing of the house to his office.

The door is wide open and I can see him standing by his desk looking at some files.

"Hey," I say letting him know I'm here.

He looks up and gives me his huge goofy grin.

"Hey, have you been standing there long?" He asks.

"No, I just got here."

"Ok good. I was just catching up on some of the conditions of my patients. I'm about finished so let me show you around like I promised," he says.

He guides me out of the room and to the left to start the tour. The pack house is huge so they were able to fit a lot of things to make this a well equipped clinic. He shows me where everything is kept such as the vaccines, medicications, lab, procedure rooms, etc.

"I got a surprise for you," he says excitedly at the end of the tour.

I look at him expectantly. I love surprises.

He guides me towards the way of his office, but when we reach it he passes it and goes more down the hall. He opens the door on the right and gauges my reaction as he says, "You're very own office."

My mouth drops open. Inside it's already decorated. Dark hard wood floors cover the ground with a dark taupe/silver wood desk placed in the center. There's two silver wingback chairs placed in front of it that match beautifully. The light grey walls are decorated with exquisite paintings and my degrees and licensing I obtained join them. But the most appealing feature of the room are the two doors behind my desk that lead to a balcony that overlooks the large manicured backyard and the green forest that lies right behind it.

I'm speechless.

"If you don't like it I can get the decorator back up here to design it the way you like. I thought this fitted you well and hoped you would like it, but if not you can make some changes," he rambles as he rubs the back of his neck mistaking my silence for distaste.

I jump at him and sling my arms around his neck and squeeze him tight. "I love it thank you," I say into his shoulder.

"You're welcome. You deserve it," he says as he returns my hug.

I look into his soft brown eyes and he opens his mouth to say something, but somebody clears their throat. We both look to the door and see Pierson and he looks furious. I look back at Noah and realize I still have my arms around him and immediately let him go. Noah just smiles at him and seems totally unaffected by him catching us like that.

"Hello Alpha Bryant," he says as he walks towards him to shake his hand, but Pierson rudely ignores it and stares at me.

"Do you need something?" I ask coldly.

He looks at me silently then his mouth breaks out into a smirk. "I actually came over here to personally show you to your room. Since Noah here said you'll be working here for awhile I thought it would be better if you just had a room in the house. It's more convinent."

Before I can reply, Noah tells him that that's a great idea and that I should really get some rest cause I had a long day today.

I don't even argue. I'm exhausted and it's too late to find another place to stay. I bid Noah a goodnight and tell him that I'll see him in the morning and walk past Pierson irritated.

He catches up to me and walks next to me leading the way.

"How've you been?" He asks. Really! He wants to make small talk.

"Good," I say shortly.

"That's good. So, what have you been up to all these years?" he continues.

"Nothing much."

"What does that mean?" He tries again.

I suddenly whip around to face him and he stops dead in his tracks caught off guard.

"Look I'm just here to complete my residency. I really never planned on coming back here, but Noah is one of the best doctors in this country and I really didn't want to pass up the chance to work with him and learn. I don't know why you care what I've been up to cause I surely don't care what you have been doing these past few years," I spit.

Whoa. Where did that come from? I didn't even know I had all that pent up anger inside of me. He looks at me stunned. He wasn't expecting me to blow up in his face.

Uh! He just infuriates me. He comes here acting like we're all buddy buddy. Well we're not. He broke my heart years ago. I mean I'm over it, but I still remember all the pain he caused me.

I sigh. "I didn't mean to be so rude. We can be civil to each other while I'm here. How about you show me to my room so I can get some rest cause I'm really tired." There I can be a mature adult.

"It's ok. I deserved that. I didn't mean to upset you," he says sincerely.

I just nod my head once and put my hand out indicating for him to lead the way.

He leads me to the other side of the house. We go down a long hallway until we finally arrive at my bedroom at the end. He turns towards me.

"This is your room. If you need me I'm in the room across the hall. Before you say anything. It was the only room we had left available. We're doing some remodeling so this is the best I could do."

Of course it is. I open the door to my temporary room and thank him for showing me to it.

"Goodnight," he says.

I look into his green eyes that I thought I would never see again and mutter a goodnight before entering and closing my door.

On my bed lies my things that I brought along. I'll put them up tomorrow I decide. I look for a pair of pajamas, put them on, and slide underneath the warmth of the covers. I'm so exhausted that I fall asleep in seconds.
