Pierson's POV

Six years later...

After the meeting I step out of the pack house to go grab some breakfast. It's a nice day in Seattle today. The sun is shininig bright with a few clouds covering the morning sky. There's a light breeze in the air making the air feel a little crisp.

"Hey man where you off to?" My beta Jake asks as he slaps me on the back.

I keep walking and he falls into step next to me. "I'm going to walk to a little coffee shop not too far from here."

"Cool. Is it alright if I tag along? I could really use a coffee."

I wanted to be by myself for a little while. The meeting we just had was beyond stressful, but I don't have the heart to tell him no.

"Yeah dude that's fine," I reply.

When we arrive Jake grabs us a table while I grab us some coffees and blueberry muffins.

I put down the drinks and food and sit directly across from Jake. I take a sip of my coffee and take in the scenery around me. The small place has a steady flow of people coming in and out. Some teens are tucked away in a little nook in the corner reading and a few tables around us are full of people talking or working on their laptops.

"That meeting was something huh?" Jake says trying to make conversation. That's one of the reasons I wanted to be alone. I just wanted to clear my head and not think about it right now.

"Yeah it was." I take a sip of my coffee.

"So how's Peyton?" I try to change the subject.

His eyes light up and he completely forgets about the meeting as he starts talking about her. "She's getting so big man. She's such a handful always getting into stuff. She's looking more and more like her mom everyday." I smile at him and agree.

We continue to conversate until we're done with our coffees a half hour later. We throw our trash away and make our way back to the house.

I enter through the front door and then to the stairs.

"Alpha!" I hear someone call before I take my first step up. I turn my head to see one of my men.

"Did you need something Shawn?"

"Yes sir. You told me to tell you when Dr. Hart returned from his trip. He's waiting for you in his office."

"Ok thank you."

He nods his head and I move up the stairs, but when I reach the third floor instead of going to my room in the left wing I go to the right wing of the house where our small clinic is located.

I head down the long wide hallway till I find his office and knock on the big wooden door.

"Come in," Dr. Hart's muffled voice calls from the other side.

When he sees me he stands from his chair and makes his way around his desk to shake my hand.

Dr. Hart has been the house doctor for the last few years after his dad passed away with a heart attack and he took over. He's only a few years older than I am and is incredibly intelligent. He has done amazing work around here and I am very grateful for him.

"Hello Alpha Bryant. I heard you wanted to see me when I arrived back."

"Yes, I did. How was your trip?" I return his firm handshake.

"It was great actually. I met a lot of great doctors and even got some of them to come back with me. They're really special and will do well here," he says proudly.

"That's excellent and I know you picked the right ones," I remark.

"So what can I do for you Pierson?"

He motions for me to take a seat in front of his desk as he takes his seat behind it. "I wanted to ask you about my father's condition. You're the only doctor who has been working with him closely."

"Oh yes," he says as his carefree face turns serious. "It's not looking so good. He's in stage III Leaukemia which is not common at all for werewolves. We're giving him chemotherapy, but it's not really having an effect on him," he says sympathetically.

I look down and cover my face with my hands. I can't lose him. My mother can't lose him.

"I'm trying Pierson. I know how much he means to you, your mom, and this pack."

"Thank you. I know you're doing your best."

I hear a soft knock at the door and I tell them to come in.

"Hey Noah I wanted to know if..."

I higher my head and turn around to look at our guest.

Oh my god.

I look at the woman standing before me. She's changed so much, but I can still see the same beautiful girl that left all those years ago.

Her brown hair that is pulled up into a neatly styled ponytail is a little longer and shinier. Her electric blue eyes that are looking surprised to see me, seem much brighter and more full of life since the last time I saw her. Her skin is glowing, she looks healthy and...happy.

"Elena," it's barely a whisper but I know she hears it.

"Hello Alpha Bryant," she says monotone. Her eyes that were so full of emotion two seconds ago turn cold. I can't believe she's here. She carries herself differently now, her head is held higher and her back straighter. When she enters the room she calls the attention of everyone in it.

"I'm guessing you remember Elena. She's one of the doctors I brought back," Dr. Hart says as he goes to Elena and puts his hand on the small of her back. My eyes zone in on it and all of a sudden my chest fills with heat and I have the sudden urge to rip his arm off.

"She finished school early because she's absolutely brilliant. While I was away in California last year I went to visit Stanford Medical School to do a seminar. The professors gushed about this student who was very bright and had a great future ahead of her. I knew I had to meet her right away. When I did I was surprised to see Elena. Although, they were right about her knowledge and skills and I tried for a whole year to convince her to do her residency here. She refused but after a while I wore her down and she finally agreed," he says while looking at her fondly.

"Stop making me sound better than I actually am. We all worked hard," she replies smiling up at him.

"Dr. Danvers you're too humble," he says with a small laugh.

I look at the two of them closely. They're talking like they've known each other for years. I'm feeling extremely possessive, but I keep reminding myself I'm the one who let her go and didn't give us a chance. I have no right.

Are they even together? I know Noah lost his mate due to a rogue attack a few years back, but I've never seen him with anybody after Mia. I look between the two. They are really close to each other for somebody who is just a friend or coworker.

"Can we talk?" I say abruptly. My voice sounding grave.

"Yes, of course we can talk some more," Dr. Hart responds.

"I was talking to Elena," I say rudely.

She looks at my face studying me. "Actually I was coming in here to see if Noah wanted to go get some lunch. I'm starving and I didn't get a chance to eat today. Can you take a raincheck?" She answers pleasantly.

So, I'm guessing she still hates me. I can't really blame her, but it still irritates me.

"Sure," I say through gritted teeth.

She turns to Noah waiting for an answer from him.

"Yeah sure. I'm famished. I haven't had anything either since we got back." He grabs his coat and leads Elena out the door.

They mutter a goodbye to me and I watch them walk away with my fist balled at my side.
