《Ice Queen》Chapter 68 ~ "Have fun last night?"

I wake up seeing light peak through behind my curtains and smile looking up at the celling. She was here yesterday, we spent the afternoon in this bed together. I laugh a bit remembering the time we spent together. Whenever I close my eyes I think about her, I think about her nails running down my back, her closing her eyes and sighing into my ear.

It was a vision that played through my dreams all night. I went to bed a lot earlier than I meant to last night, I was just tired after the week and I slept easy knowing Sasha was having the time of her life at Mel's last night.

It's only a little after nine now, so I roll over and check my phone only to be overwhelmed by what I see on the lock screen. Fifty-three texts, six missed calls and three voicemails from Sasha. Immediately I shoot up in bed, worried something bad happened until I really get in to read and listen to the messages.

*Hi*

*Hiiiiiii*

*Nate Im a littyl drink*

*Helloooooo*

"Baby andwer mr*

*Ansder*

*I misz u*

*Updat mire drun now, Mel has th bleeder out*

*Blender*

*They caygh me texig u, now thell drae on me whil I sleet*

*Pleas answerd, I wannan her ur voiz*

Half the texts make zero sense and I just laugh reading them, she was adorable. I just hoped she was feeling alright this morning. I'm almost upset I missed drunk Sasha, she sounds hilarious. Then I listen to the voice messages and I laugh even harder.

"Hey baby.....huh....um....I might be just a little bit tipsy." I hear her nearly whisper. "But you can't say anything....I'm not supposed to be texting you......right now....or at all tonight....but I just wanted to call you. I-I miss you-"

"Sasha! Hang up the phone this is girls night, no boys!" I hear someone scream in the background and she laughs. I save the voicemail and press play on the next one

"Nathan........I'm peeing in Mel's fancy bathroom. I don't know how.....the toilet works. I'm so confused.....anyway, I got away to call you. I wish you'd answer but you're probably asleep.....holy shit it's one a.m." She mumbles. "I keep thinking about this afternoon......that was really nice, we should do that more often. I'm wearing your sweater.....but it's really warm, I might have to take it off-"

"Sash, what are you doing in there!" I hear with some banging on the door.

"I'll continue this later.......just be quiet." She whispers and I laugh, moving onto the last one.

"Well hey Nathan.....why do you let me call you that?.....Nobody does....except me! Anyway, I just called to tell you Rachel puked and I didn't....I'm way better at this than her. I might be more drunk than I've ever been.......I think I could run a marathon right now. What else did I want you to know.....oh! I was hungry tonight, like stomach growling hungry. It was really cool......anyway, I can't wait for tomorrow, sorry if I'm a little messed up, I didn't realize I'd be so.....drunk. I'll be fine for dinner at least.....oh my god please don't be mad I'm wasted." She says quickly and I laugh to myself.

"I miss you.......I wish you were here......well maybe not at girls night, I just mean I wish we were together. I love you.....I took off your sweater, so now I'm just standing in front of the bathroom mirror in a pair of shorts and this sports bra. I think I'm starting to fill-out a bit.....maybe I'm just too drunk. Do you find my collarbones stick out?-"

"Is Nate on the phone again?" I hear someone say. "Nate it's Mel, tell your girlfriend she's pretty please. I swear all he has to do is put you in front of the mirror and you'd be entertained for hours."

"I sh-should.....I should go. See you tomorrow-"

The message cuts out there from being too long and I smile, saving all the messages. They'd be good for nights when I couldn't see her, I knew they'd make me smile.

I get up out of bed and alter my plan for the day, Sasha would definitely not be in fighting shape for the whole day I had planned. I walk across the hall and hop in the shower, going about my morning routine. Once I'm putting on clean clothes, I hear my phone vibrating on my nightstand. I walk over and smile seeing who's calling.

"Good morning." I say with a smile and I hear a groan on the other end.

"Hey Nathan." I hear Sasha mumble back and I chuckle a bit.

"Have fun last night?" I ask and she laughs quietly.

"Yeah I had a lot of fun." She says and I smile. "Look can you do me a huge favour?"

"What do you need?" I ask.

"Could you come get me from Mel's? I told Alex to pick me up last night but I texted him not to, because I was going to hang out with everyone for a while. But I just want to take a shower, a nap, brush my teeth......" She stops and I hear her swallow a bit. "Maybe throw up."

"Hangover's not treating you so well?" I ask and she sighs.

"No, I'm really miserable. But I know if Alex or mom came to get me it would just be a lecture and I don't know if I'd be allowed out to see my friends for a while." She says and I grab my car keys and shoes. "Can you pick me up and let me sleep this off at your house? I know I have some clothes and everything there. Then I'll be good to go for the night."

"I'm coming baby, hang tight." I whisper and she giggles a bit on the other end.

"Thank you so much, I love you." She says and I smile.

"Love you too, see you in five." I tell her, hanging up the call.

I walk downstairs and put two pieces of bread in the toaster, then I grab a banana, an orange from the fridge and a bottle of water. I grab some ibuprofen and Gaviscon to help with her headaches and nausea. I put everything together in a container and make the quick drive to Mel's.

I get there and walk up to the door, hoping she could make the ride home without getting too sick. I knock and I instantly hear footsteps coming downstairs.

"Hey Nate." Mel says. "She's upstairs."

"Thanks, how's she doing?" I ask coming in and following her up the stairs.

"She's doing alright, just seriously hungover." She stops me though before letting me go any further. "Look I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push her that far. I forgot she doesn't drink, and there really isn't much to her. I didn't want things to get out of control like that, I'm really sorry."

"Mel she had fun, I really don't mind." I tell her. "I'm not one of those guys that gets pissed because my girlfriend had fun last night. We call this a learning opportunity, now she knows the limit." I say and she laughs.

"Well anyway, please don't be mad. I swear it'll never happen again." She says and I shrug.

"It's alright, she called me a whole bunch of times last night. It seemed like she had a good night, she hasn't had many fun nights out with friends. I'm glad she had fun, just bummed she's sick." I say and she nods.

"She's in here." She says leading me into a massive bedroom and in the corner of the fold-out sofa, lays Sasha. She's practically groaning and has her knees pulled up into her chest.

I walk over quickly and kneel down next to her, putting my hand on her cheek.

"Hey beautiful." I whisper and she smiles.

"Hi." She mumbles.

"How are you feeling?" I ask and she sighs.

"Really gross." She mumbles and I laugh.

"Well I'm going to take you home alright? Where's your stuff?" I ask and she points at her bag across the room and I nod, putting it over my shoulders. "Is this your phone?" I ask, picking one up from the table next to the couch and she nods. "Do you have anything anywhere else?" I ask, sliding her cell into my pocket.

"I presume this is yours?" Mel asks and I smile, seeing my hoodie in her hands.

"It is, thanks Mel." I tell her, zipping it into her bag. "Thanks for taking care of my girl."

"I probably should have taken better care of her." She says and I laugh.

"Come on baby, let's go." I whisper and she reaches her arms out. I laugh and pick her up off the bed, feeling her arms wrap around me.

"Thanks Nathan." Sasha whispers and I kiss her cheek. "My head hurts."

"I know." I whisper back. "Did you throw up?"

"Not yet, but I feel nauseous." She says and I nod.

"Well, I'll take you slow. I have something in the car for that." I feel her nod over my shoulder and she holds me tighter.

I walk her back to the car slowly and set her down carefully while I open her door. I place her into the seat carefully and she smiles appreciatively. I put her bag in the back seat and open my own door, sliding in next to her.

"Do you want a shirt to wear? It's pretty chilly out this morning." I ask, remarking her only dressed in a sports bra and a pair of shorts.

"No, the cold is helping." She says and I nod, finding the things I brought for her.

"Here, take these." I whisper, passing her the pills and tablets. "You can chew the big ones, they should help with your headache and nausea." She gives me a smile and then swallows the pills gratefully. "There's toast, that should help soak up what's in your stomach, the orange should give you vitamin C and the banana will help with energy. Eat and drink slowly."

"Thanks." She whispers. "You're getting good at taking care of me."

I laugh a bit at that and watch her starting to eat the food I gave her. She starts by almost swallowing an entire piece of toast and I reach my hand out to stop her.

"Slow, remember?" I ask and she nods, bitting off the corner instead.

"Sorry I'm just starving." She says, eating another bite and I find my lips move into an involuntary smile.

"Say that again for me." I say and she smiles.

"I'm starving." She says and I laugh.

"You know I always thought the most beautiful words I'd hear you say were 'I love you'." I say, putting my hand on her knee. "I'm really glad you're feeling better Sash."

"Well right now I feel like garbage." She says and I laugh.

"That's the price for a night out." I tell her and she sighs.

"Thank you for coming to get me, I just didn't want to have that conversation with my parents or my brothers." She says and I nod.

"I don't mind." I whisper and she smiles. "I'll bring you back to mine, just sit tight.....here." I say, passing her my sunglasses off of my sun visor. "I find they help tone down headaches with all the light."

"Thanks." She says, sliding them over her eyes and I laugh.

I pull away from the curb and make the slow drive to my house, luckily traffic was pretty light so I could drive a little slower.

"Can I roll down the window?" She asks taking deep breaths and I nod, immediately rolling hers and mine down. If it helps her fight nausea and not throw up in my car I'm all for it.

Once we're outside I take her bag and carry her into the house and up to my room. She's shaking, I know she's cold. But I also know it helps with feeling sick.

"Alright, the bathroom is all yours. Take your time, I'll see if I can find the stuff you have around here-"

"Can you just loan me a shirt?" She asks and I nod.

"If that's what you want." I tell her and she smiles.

"I'll be out in a bit." She says, pulling a toiletry bag out of her backpack. She kisses my cheek and then disappears into the bathroom.

I look through my drawers and find one of my shirts, leaving it on my bed. I leave her to deal with the rest, not wanting to go through her bag to find other clothes.

I hear her step into the shower and I suddenly relax, knowing how good it feels to rinse off a horrible hangover. Then I stop hearing what sounds like her throwing up. Well at least she's in the shower.

I sigh and head downstairs, getting her another glass of water and cutting up a few strawberries. If I stay up there then I'll start bothering her and worrying if she's alright. If she needs me she'll call.

I pick up the bowl or berries, a dry granola bar and the glass of water heading back up to my room. I set them gingerly on the dresser and hear the water turn off, footsteps on the floor of the bathroom.

"Nathan." I hear quietly, along with the door opening and I immediately come around to the bathroom. She's wrapped in a towel, wet hair hanging down over her face.

"What's wrong? Did you throw up?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"You heard all that huh?" She asks with a laugh, looking at the floor. "No, I was just dry-heaving. Nothing came up." She sighs. "Do you um.....have any rubbing alcohol?"

"Why on earth do you need that?" I ask and she laughs.

"Don't laugh at me, it's my own damn fault. I texted you." She sighs and turns around. She puts her arm over her chest and pulls the towel down around her hips. I instantly see it, drawn in black sharpie over her tailbone.

"Oh christ." I mumble and she laughs.

It was a very.....detailed drawing of a penis, hearts around it. The tattoo said and I quote 'dear Nate, insert here' with an arrow pointing straight down.

"Who.....why did someone draw that?" I ask putting my hand over the drawing and she shakes her head.

"We made a pact, the first person to drunk text a boy got a sharpie tattoo. In a moment of drunken fun, I agreed to a tramp stamp. It could be worse, it could be on my face or my chest. Somewhere more likely for someone to see this."

"Yeah if I don't have something to take it off I'll drive to the drug store." I say and she laughs.

"Or...this will work!" She says picking up a bottle of nail polish remover. "It's better actually, this should take it off." I watch as she takes a cotton ball and douses it. "Can you um....give me a few minutes?"

"Are you sure I can't help you take it off?" I ask. "No funny business, I just think it's sort of hard to reach." She shrugs and passes me the wet cotton ball. She holds the towel tighter around her waist and I immediately start removing the image from her back.

I can't believe that the same girl who used to panic at the concept of drinking, partying or talking about sex now stood before me, hungover, with sharpied genitalia on her back. I just laughed to myself as I wiped it away. Despite how sick she is and the rough morning she's had, I know she had fun last night.

"Gone." I tell her, tossing the twelfth blackened cotton ball into the trash.

"Thank you." She says, pulling her towel back up over her body. She keeps firm hold of it and then grabs her toiletries heading back into my room. She pulls the shirt over the towel and then removes it, once the shirt is settled over her body.

She then goes into her bag and pulls out a pair of underwear, sliding them up her legs and I clear my throat, looking away before any of this gets the better of me.

"Why are you staring at the wall?" She asks, pulling her hair up into a bun and I smile.

"I didn't want to watch you change." I tell her and she laughs a bit. She walks over to me and grabs my hands, pulling me closer.

"Happy ten year anniversary." She whispers and I smile. "I know it's not what you had in mind, and I know everything last night screwed up what I'm sure were amazing plans-"

"Sash, you're here. In my room, wearing my shirt after you called me to get you because you trusted me. I don't care that it involved taking ibuprofen or removing a penis from your lower back." She cuts me off there with some laughter, I smile hearing my favourite sound fill the room. "Last time I checked, a day was twenty-four hours....that's plenty more time to do fun things with you."

I turn and open a drawer on my desk, pulling out the gift I had for her. I hold up the black box and she furrows her eyebrows.

"I was going to give it to you after dinner tonight, but I want to start my day with this." I whisper, passing it over.

"Are you sure, I can wait until tonight?" She offers and I nod.

"I'm sure, open it." She smiles and undoes the ribbon around the box. "I know you're not really allowed to wear jewelry while you train. I gave you that bracelet and I love it, but I noticed you always wear earrings." I whisper and her jaw drops open as she removes the lid.

"These are gorgeous." She gapes and I smile.

"I had them special made for you." I whisper. "I they have our initials on the backs and I made sure they were one-hundred percent safe to skate with. They don't hook." She gives me a look of amazement and smiles, pulling one out and inspecting the back of it.

"I can't believe you got these for me." She whispers and I nod. "They're perfect." She pulls the ones in her ear out as fast as she can and starts looking at the ones in the box.

"The front and back screw together." I whisper, pulling one out of the box and showing her how to open them.

"They really do have our initials in them." She says in an endearing tone, flipping them over. "I love them." She puts them into her ears and looks at herself in the mirror over the dresser, tossing the other ones on the space in front of her.

"Careful, I don't want you to lose your other earrings." I say and she laughs.

"They're from H&M, I couldn't care less." She says wrapping her arms around me and I smile, giving her a good squeeze. "I love you."

"I love you too." I whisper, kissing her forehead. She looks up to me, bright blue eyes surrounded by dark circles from a long night out. "C'mon, I'm putting you to bed."

"I'm not tired." She whispers as I pick her up.

"You were when you called me this morning." I whisper back, setting her down on my bed.

"But I don't want to waste the day away." She whines and I laugh kissing her forehead.

I walk back over and grab the food I got from the kitchen, joining her in bed.

"You're not." I assure her, passing her the glass of water. "I want you here with me, just relax."

She gives me a smile and then takes a drink of the glass, which quickly turns into her drinking more than half of it. She then tears into the granola bar polishing it off in twenty seconds flat. To most people watching someone stuff their face must be almost revolting. To me it was like witnessing a miracle.

"Sorry." She quickly apologizes, looking away and throwing the wrapper into the trash a few feet away.

"You don't have to be sorry you're hungry." I laugh and her cheeks turn red.

"C-can I eat those too?" She asks awkwardly, looking at the bowl of fruit and I nod passing them over to her. She moves over closer, leaning into my side and I put my arm around her, leaning us back to rest on the headboard.

These moments really never felt different then our old friendship, I knew that was why it was so easy to fall in love and start a relationship. We trusted each other to see ourselves at our most vulnerable.

She finishes the fruit and then lays the bowl on the nightstand. She rolls away from me on her side and reaches back for my arm, pulling me down towards her. I chuckle to myself and slide in behind her.

"Thanks." She whispers, while I wrap my arm around her and pull her back closer to me. "I like laying like this with you."

"I'll keep it in mind." I whisper, kissing her cheek. "Sleep baby, I'm here."

She gives the back of my hand a quick kiss and then holds it close to her, in both of her small hands.
