《Ice Queen》Chapter 60 ~ "A victory lap?"

It's official, I have the best girlfriend ever. She was here for me the same way I was for her, she surprised me and wanted to come see me play. Sasha doesn't give herself any credit for being a good person, she just made sure her brothers felt included and that she could come to my game all at the same time.

I don't know if I've ever seen her so happy before, she's completely turned around since yesterday afternoon. This week had started with her being almost completely destroyed and now she was as happy as I'd ever seen her.

"I can't believe you surprised me back." I mumble, leaning down to kiss her forehead.

"Believe it." She whispers, wrapping her arms around me.

"That was a nice thing you did for your brothers." I whisper and she smiles.

"I'm just trying to bridge the gaps a bit, when they talk to dad it's always really weird. I thought this would make it look like they were at least trying." She says and I smile.

I watch as her family engages in a simple conversation with head nodding and smiles. It was stiff but, like Sasha said, it was the effort that mattered through all of this.

"I'm so happy you're here." I whisper and she nods.

"I wouldn't have missed it for the world." She tells me and I nod.

"Look I need to change and shower, I'm supposed to go out with mom and dad for dinner to celebrate and then go to our post game party-"

"That's great." She says, shaking her head with a smile. "Have fun."

"No I-well.....I wanted to know if you wanted to come?" I ask and she raises her eyebrows.

"Oh." She says. "No I don't want to intrude or anything-"

"You wouldn't be." I insist. "Everyone's bringing friends and girlfriends."

"I don't know how fun I'd be." She sighs. "I've never really been to a party before and I don't want to embarrass you."

"What?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. "Baby, you'll never embarrass me. I want you there, I promise it'll be fun and I'll make sure you get home safe."

"Well...." She starts, but stops and sighs out. "Nathan I don't know if it's really my scene but-"

"Say no more." I say. "If you're not going then I'm not either we can go out and do something together instead-"

"But." She says, cutting me off and putting her hands on my arms. "It clearly means a lot to you, so I'll go. I don't want you to give it up because of me." She whispers, running her thumbs back and forth over my forearms.

"You will?" I ask and she nods with a smile.

"Yes." She says quietly and I give her a small kiss. "Isn't a Sunday a weird night for a party?"

"I'm not planning on staying very late, just putting in an appearance and hanging out for a bit. Then I'll take you home." I tell her and she laughs.

"Only if you come in with me." She says and I fell my heartbeat pick up. "I'm so proud of you." I feel her fingers slide through my hair and I smile. Sasha could get me to melt in her hands with her sentimental comments.

"I didn't really play in the last third." I admit and she shrugs.

"But you're a part of the team, let me congratulate you." She pouts and I laugh.

"Sash." I hear Alex say and she clears her throat, stepping back a bit. "We're all going to dinner, take your time whenever you're done we'll head out." He says stiffly, and her parents nod heading out to the lobby. Her brothers wave and head back to the change room.

"I guess I should probably let you change huh?" She says and I laugh.

"How about...we take a victory lap instead?" I ask and she furrows her eyebrows.

"A victory lap?" She asks and I pick her up. She shrieks and I walk over to the door in the boards. Once I let her down, I have her climb onto my back and I step onto the ice.

I smile, taking her around the rink on my back hearing her laughter in my ear. Three months ago this was the rink we found each other on again. This rink was the reason we'd fallen back into each other.

"I love you." I hear her whisper behind me and I laugh.

"I love you too." I tell her and I stop when I hear a few hollers from the other side of the rink. I see Adrian and Malcolm pumping their fists and making obscene hand gestures. I roll my eyes and skate the two of us over.

"Congrats Sash, Nate told us this afternoon!" Adrian says and I laugh setting her back on the ground.

"Thanks." She says with a smile. "Good job today, you guys did amazing." I feel her lean back into my side and I just enjoy it, feeling mushy and warm all over.

"Are you coming tonight?" Malcolm asks and she nods.

"Sure am, I guess I'll see you guys there." She shrugs and they nod.

After a brief goodbye, Malcolm and Adrian head off with their families and I hold her hands down in front of us.

"Well I'll let you go with your family, I'll come get you at around seven-thirty?" I ask and she nods.

"Sounds good to me." She says and gives my hands a squeeze. "I'll see you then, have a good dinner with your parents."

"Alright." I whisper and give her one final kiss. "Bye baby."

"Bye." She says and reluctantly lets our hands go, she waves and walks out of the rink and I smile.

Being around Sasha was like walking on air. I was so in love with her it even scared me. I hated the time we spent apart and loved the time we got together, I was hoping there'd be more of it now that our lives had calmed down.

I couldn't wait to take her to this party and just flaunt our relationship. I knew Sasha was beautiful and I was more than proud to call her my girlfriend.

My parents had of course wondered what on earth had taken me so long. But when I told them Sasha had come to see me play they immediately eased up. Both of my parents seemed particularly fond of Sasha, she was always polite and took a genuine answer in everything people told her.

Dinner was quiet, just some catching up with my dad who'd been away for a week on and off all year. I caught both of them up on me and Sasha and the other things going on in my life. I knew they were happy about how the game had gone today because they let me order an appetizer. It was a nice quality family meal we rarely got anymore.

Then we all went home and I went upstairs to take a better shower and get ready to go get Sasha. I was hoping this would go well and for the most-part, people would leave Sasha alone. I wasn't planning on drinking at all and if things turned I was just going to bring her home.

I change into some comfortable clothes and lay on bed trying to rest a bit before I headed out. It had been non-stop for over thirty-six hours and I took the time to relax. I let my mind wander to last night and I smile, grabbing my dog-tags running my fingers over the odd letters on the back. I thought about her final skate, how much emotion she put into it and how perfect it was. I remember how she leapt into my arms after she'd finished her routine.

I didn't know it was even possible to get so obsessed with somebody like this. But I guess it's not new really, I've just repressed my feelings for too many years. Whenever I was with anyone else I always thought about her, she crossed my mind all the time. She was always a part of my life, she meant the world to me. Even when we were six years old I knew I cared about her too much.

I look through my phone and when I scroll through my pictures I realize we don't have any together. It didn't shock me, we'd had a really unconventional start to our relationship, and the time we did get to spend together over these past three weeks was not a photo-op. But I'd have to change that, I wanted pictures of us to look back on.

After too long of staring at my ceiling, I realize it's time to leave and go get Sasha. I was just hoping she wasn't too stressed out by this. I hop into my car and send her a quick message letting her know I'm on my way. This was what both of us needed after weeks and weeks of stress, a party.

Before I know it I'm parked outside and I'm on my way up to the door. I knock and feel my heart hammer in my chest. Quickly the door's pulled open and I feel my breath leave my throat. I couldn't even believe my eyes, Sasha steps out onto the deck as fast as possible and closes the door.

"Come on, I didn't exactly get the green light to wear this out." She hisses, pulling me down the walkway and I just smile.

Sasha was dressed too nicely for her own good. She wore a pair of skin-tight dark jeans and a short tank top. When she moved just right I could see a strip of her skin. The top itself was white and had thin straps.

"Nathan." I hear and snap out of my daydream. "Why are you looking at me like that? Can you open the car?"

"Because you look really.....really pretty." I say quietly, grabbing her waist and she laughs a bit.

"Thanks, it took a good call with Kate to figure it out." She says and I smile.

I give her a small kiss and then open her door, seeing a blonde head of waves ease into the passenger seat. I run around to my side and start off down the street.

"So, where is this party?" She asks and I smile.

"At Luke's house." I tell her and she shrugs. "I know you don't know who he is but he's alright." I assure her, putting my hand on her knee. I feel her small hand rest over mine and I smile.

"What exactly goes on at parties?" She asks. "Is it like the movies or is it really different?" I give her hand a squeeze and laugh to myself, she's so cute. "Ew never mind, I sound so stupid asking that." She groans and I laugh a bit out loud now instead.

"No, it's not really what it's like in the movies. There's not as many people or lines of Christmas lights up on the walls. There's just music, drinking and a few drinking games here or there. Nothing too intense." She nods a bit at that and looks out the window next to her.

She doesn't say anything else and I sigh, knowing she's thinking about something. Sasha only stayed quiet like that when she was deep in thought.

"What are you thinking about?" I ask and she gives me a look that tells me she was clearly caught off-guard.

"Oh...nothing." She says with a smile. "I'm fine."

"You know you can talk to me right?" I ask and she sighs. "Sash, I'm not here to make fun of you or tease you about anything. I'd rather you tell me what's bothering you."

"I'm just.....thinking I guess." She says with a shrug. "I've never done anything like this before and I don't know anything about it."

"Well I'll be with you the whole time, I promise. It'll be fun, this is just a new step and we'll do it together." I say and she nods.

"I know it'll be alright, I just overthink things." She says, giving my hand another squeeze. We pull up outside and I park the car, turning it off and looking at her.

"If you really want to leave, let me know and we can go. I'm not drinking so just say the word." I tell her and she nods.

"Thanks for....being patient with me." She says, shaking her head. "I know I'm not the easiest person to be with but, doing things like this means the absolute world to me."

I smile at that and hold her small hand in both of mine. There wasn't a single thing like being with Sasha.

"Baby you are easy to be with, everything between us is so perfect. We work really well, just because you or I have an issue here or there doesn't mean it's hard to be with you. You're human, I'm human, and the time we spend together is irreplaceable. I love you, I don't want anyone else."

Before I can say anything else, she's undoing her seatbelt and leaning over to give me a kiss. I then undo my own seatbelt and lift her to sit on my lap. She smiles and wraps her arms around the back of my neck.

"I love you too." She says quietly and I smile, feeling my thumbs slide under the hem of her shirt.

Even if we had rough patches, we were both good about checking in with the other one. We'd apologize and make sure the other one didn't feel alone. This was one of the first chances we had to be a regular high school couple and I was eager to spend some time with her after our crazy weeks.

"You're so beautiful." I whisper and she, runs her fingers through my hair.

"So are you." She breathes and I feel the air in the car getting thicker. It's so nice to be like this with nothing to think about, so carefree. Then she presses her lips to mine and I straighten in response. I pull her against me and she wraps her arms around me tighter.

My mind goes blank when I hear her sigh, that was too much for me. My hands span the bare skin exposed on her back from her top and her hands push under my shirt and rest on my bare chest. My mind starts to skyrocket and I take a few deep breaths to keep my thoughts clear.

The moment is cut short by someone banging on the window, Sasha pulls back sounding shocked.

"Come on you two, the party's inside." I hear and recognize the person outside as Malcolm. "Stop fogging up the windows and let's head out." He says and I laugh a bit. He disappears up the driveway and Sasha runs her fingers through her hair.

"That was nice." She whispers and I chuckle, opening the door for her to step out. I get out afterwards and pull her close.

"I'm so glad you're with me." I tell her and I watch her cheeks flush. "You make me so happy."

"Trust me, nobody's happier than I am." She whispers, grabbing my hands. "Now let's check out this party, huh?" She asks and I laugh, letting her pull me along.

"I'm right behind you." I whisper and she gives me a smile.
