"Hey bestie," Hae-Ran smirks. "Remember me?"
Every nerve in Nari's body lights up in rage at that hideous smile stretched across her face.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" she seethes. "You have a lot of fucking nerve showing your face around me."
"What do you mean?" she pouts innocently, letting the door close behind her. "Just because Joonie and I are broken up doesn't mean we can't still be friends."
"Are you out of your mind?" Nari gapes. "It's not like you had a regular breakup. You poisoned Namjoon. You put him in the hospital — the man you supposedly love."
"This is so disappointing," Hae-Ran sighs. "I really thought out of everyone, you'd be willing to understand me."
"You're sick," Nari hisses. "Get out of my sight. You're not even supposed to be in the country."
"Nari, I love you," Hae-Ran sighs again, running her perfectly manicured fingers through her hair. "But you really need to start watching your fucking tone."
"Excuse me?" Nari scoffs. "I'm the one who needs to watch my tone?"
"We both have a lot to lose here," Hae-Ran glares, the shift in her eyes shooting a shiver down Nari's spine. "But I have the upper hand."
"How in the hell do you have any sort of upper hand over me?"
"With the snap of my fingers, your little Tan will lose his spot in the clinical trial."
Nari's blood runs cold as she stares at her ex-best friend in disbelief. She poisoned Namjoon but it wasn't enough to kill him. She didn't think Hae-Ran could actually bring herself to be the cause of someone's death.
"Your father signed a lot of papers that he didn't read," she continues, a small smirk beginning to play on her lips. "I don't think you quite understand just how much money your father owes my family by now."
"W-what do you even want?" Nari chokes out as tears begin to brim in her eyes.
"I want Namjoon back."
At this point Nari is having a hard time even understanding the words falling out of her mouth. Her hands are trembling as she processes the information she's just been presented with.
"He's already with someone else," she says, her voice trembling in fear.
The atmosphere turns cold and Nari's breath hitches as Hae-Ran's eyes bore into hers.
"What the fuck did you just say?" she says with a low growl, taking a step towards Nari.
"H-he's moving on," she says shakily, stepping back until she's backed against her counter. "Just leave him alone. You can move on too."
"Who is she?" she glares so viciously that Nari begins to get nauseous.
"Y-you don't know her," she answers, one tear falling down her cheek. "Hae-Ran please. He's finally happy again after two whole years. Don't do this to him."
"He's just pretending to be happy," she says angrily, the venom behind her eyes shooting daggers as she takes another step closer to her. "He won't be happy with anyone other than me. He can't be. I won't allow it."
"You should take it up with him then," Nari shakes as Hae-Ran gets within inches of her. "I don't want anything to do with you anymore."
Hae-Ran bursts out into laughter so maniacal it makes the hair on Nari's neck stand up. She's doubling over from the hitch in her side before she finally looks up and says, "If you don't want little Tan dying from his cancer or your dad going to prison for fraud then I suggest you start fixing that attitude of yours."

Nari's knees buckle underneath her as Hae-Ran menacingly towers over her. "I got a new number," she smirks. "I suggest you answer when I call. And keep your mouth shut, including telling your loser boyfriend. Your first assignment will be to send me all of this new bitch's info, starting with her address."
Nari watches helplessly from the floor as Hae-Ran walks out the door, images of her younger brother puking up blood again flashing clear as day in front of her eyes. Her dad is a single father, he has been ever since her mom walked out when she was fifteen, right after Tan was diagnosed with cancer. He's the kindest and gentlest human on the planet, but he's also naive. He probably had no idea what he was signing as long as it meant his precious son could get treatment.
Nari buries her face in her hands and begins to sob.
This is what I get, she thinks to herself. This is what I get for thinking I could ever be happy.
"She and her father fled the country last night," Namjoon says with his head in his hands, sobbing next to your hospital bed. "I can't believe this is happening."
It takes everything Nari has not to fall to her knees, begging for forgiveness. She's the one who gave Hae-Ran your address. She hasn't even met you face to face until now, but you're laying in bed unconscious, bandages all over your body — all because of her cowardice and powerlessness.
"Was Hae-Ran always this evil?" Namjoon chokes out, grabbing your hand as the tears continue to stream down his cheeks. "[Y/N] was beaten, stabbed, and almost raped. I used to be so in love with Hae-Ran, how could I not have seen the demons harboring inside of her? How could I have been so naive to think that a bitch who poisoned me would leave her alone?"
"I didn't either, Namjoon," Nari whimpers, tears spilling over her lashes. "Somehow she fooled the both of us."
"Nari I don't know what to do," he sobs, resting his forehead against your knuckles. "I love [Y/N] but I don't know how to protect her. This is all my fault."
"No it's not," Nari says shakily, wiping the tears from her face. "Hae-Ran is the only monster here, and she's been put on South Korea's national watch list. She can't hurt you or [Y/N] anymore."
How foolish of her to think that.
"Hey bestie," Nari hears on the other end of the phone, her face turning sheet white. It's been a month since she's heard from Hae-Ran after she fled. She thought she was free, trying her best to move on and live a normal life.
"What do you want?" Nari says angrily, trying to contain the fear in her voice. "You can't hurt Tan anymore."
"But I can hurt your father," she laughs through the phone. "Which in turn will get Tan kicked out of the trial. Now shut the fuck up and listen to what I say."
And just like that, Nari's forced to spend the next few weeks bullying you and making you uncomfortable. She absolutely adores you, she sees the way you and Namjoon look at each other, the twinkle in his eyes making her want to die every single day. But she can't. She has to protect Tan.
She's considered telling Yoongi a hundred times. It's only been three months since they started going steady but she's madly in love with him. She's so scared she can't eat, she can't sleep, and she can't focus at work. If it weren't for Tan, she probably would've taken a blade to her wrists by now from all the guilt. Yoongi noticed a change in her behavior but has been so swamped at work he hasn't had time to really address it.

"I can't do this anymore," Yoongi says softly, reaching for her door handle. "I'm sorry but I can't forgive you for this."
"Please, babe, I'm so sorry," Nari sobs, using all of her energy not to throw up. "Please don't leave me. Please give me another chance."
She successfully broke you and Namjoon up just like Hae-Ran forced her to. She and Yoongi have been on thin ice the last three weeks and he's finally done.
"No," he says shakily, a tear falling down his cheek as he avoids her eyes. "You've hurt two of the most important people in my life. I've tried to get past it but I can't. I don't trust you anymore and I never will."
"Yoongi please," she begs, gripping onto his wrist.
He looks up at her, waiting for her to speak but she can't. She can't form any thoughts because of Tan's lifeless body flickering through her mind.
"Enough," he sighs, jerking his arm from her. "I won't make you leave the team. But don't speak to me unless it's about work. We're done."
Nari watches him walk out her front door, the wood slamming shut against the frame, making Nari sink back down onto the floor. She's so numb and broken, having just lost the best thing that's ever happened to her. She cries onto her kitchen tile for an hour until she can't cry anymore.
Nari's always battled with depression but this new darkness creeping into her chest is on a whole other level. The demons in her ear are trying to tell her she's unworthy of happiness. Unworthy of life. The ache in her chest has become so unbearable she's unable to breathe. In her moment of weakness, she slowly trudges to her balcony, stepping over the railing and staring down at the cement five floors beneath her.
I could just end it now, she thinks. I could be free.
She's about to step off when her watch lights up. Looking down, her breath finally begins to return and she breaks down all over again at the white text on her wrist.
Call from: Little Tan ☀️
Nari robotically and numbly survives through the next few months without being bothered by Hae-Ran. She's so relieved you and Namjoon were able to work it out, and she's hoping Hae-Ran has no idea.
"Hey," Nari hears a voice from behind, making her flinch. She turns around to see Yoongi's silver hair, making her heart do backflips as he looks at the ground. They've seen each other multiple times for work, being forced to chat here and there about the lighting, but other than that he's completely avoided her. Even Jungkook and Namjoon speak to her more than he does, though it's not much.
"Hi," she says softly, taking in all his beautiful features she loves so much.
"Um..." he pauses. "I just wanted to know how you're doing."
"Not good," she answers instantly, making his eyes meet hers. "I miss you so much I want to die."
His cheeks flush at her straightforwardness before looking back at the ground. "Oh," is all he says.
"How're you?" she asks, taking a small step closer but keeping her distance, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.
"I'm okay," he lies. She knows he's still devastated. He pursued her for four years, patiently waiting until the day she liked him back. Feelings like that don't just disappear. "I miss you too," he admits.
Nari's heart is close to beating out of her rib cage. She didn't expect Yoongi to ever speak to her again, let alone admit he misses her. Yoongi's definitely one to hold grudges, especially towards people who've hurt him or his other members.
She takes another small step closer, and the butterflies that shoot through her stomach almost make her nauseous when he doesn't move back.
"How are Namjoon and [Y/N]?" she asks softly.
"They're a lot better," he smiles weakly, meeting her eyes again. "I spoke to Namjoon. He told me the breakup was his fault, not yours."
Her throat tightens at the thought of Namjoon defending her after all she's done to hurt him. "No," Nari shakes her head. "I'm at fault. I treated [Y/N] like shit and even hurt JK who's like a brother to me."
His eyes bore into hers for a few seconds before he hears his name being called by Bang PD.
"I need to go," he says, turning back around.
"Yoongi," Nari blurts out, making him look back over his shoulder. "I know you haven't forgiven me, and that's okay. I'll wait."
He continues looking at her with both sadness and affection in his eyes. "But can I start saying hello when I see you? It's killing me to have to avoid you. I promise I won't bother you or push you."
He looks at the ground, making Nari's stomach turn in anxiety until he nods his head silently. Tears fall down her face, watching his back slowly get smaller as he gets closer to the group.
"Dammit," she whispers silently to herself. "I'm so fucking in love with him."
Nari can't take it anymore. She's scared shitless but she loves Yoongi more than she fears Hae-Ran.
I'm going to tell him.
"I'm really sorry, [Y/N]," Nari says, giving you a full bow. "I don't expect you to forgive me. But I'm in love with Yoongi and I'd like your permission to pursue him again."
You walked into the company lobby right as Nari was trying to ask Yoongi to dinner. She almost starts crying when she sees Yoongi's face flush tomato red from her confession. He has his head turned the other way completely, but his cheeks and ears are red and his hands are balled into fists. He's absolutely elated from Nari's words.
"You don't need my permission," you smile, grabbing her shoulder. "If you ever hurt either of them again I will kill you myself."
Nari shivers but nods, because she knows you're dead serious. She plans to tell Yoongi everything in two weeks after she gets Tan transferred to a different hospital. She's hoping to stall Hae-Ran long enough to get Yoongi involved. She knows he'll help her no matter what.
"I love you too," Yoongi says softly later that night, pressing his lips against hers as his hardened length fully enters her for the first time in months. He visibly shivers at how amazing it feels to make love to her again, and the look on his face makes Nari's chest almost explode from sheer happiness. He spends all night making up for lost time, surprising her with a charm bracelet the next morning.
"Jimin helped me pick them out," he smiles shyly, making Nari burst out into tears. He snaps it around her wrist, pulling her naked body to his chest. "I love you Nari."
"I love you too Yoongi," she sobs. "I'm so sorry for hurting you."
"I forgive you," he says shakily, squeezing her tightly. "Please be my girlfriend again."
She silently nods, finally feeling like she can breathe again.
But she should've known better.
"Hey bestie," she hears that bone chilling voice through her headphones.
"No," Nari says confidently, looking at her brother lying in his new hospital bed. "I'm not doing anything else for you. You can't hurt Tan anymore. I'm telling Yoongi everything tonight."
"You really are such a disappointment," she sighs before Nari feels her phone vibrate.
All the blood drains from her face when a picture of Tan pops up on her screen from just this morning. He has on the same Superman bracelet that she gave him last night, except he's not alone. There's a large man with a scar on his eyebrow holding a knife firmly against his throat as he sleeps.
Nari slowly presses the phone back up to her ear.
"Are you done with your little confidence kick?" she snickers. "I need you again, I know I'm being plotted against by Seokjin's mother. Find a way to get in on their meetings."
And so she does.
"I won't hurt Yoongi," Nari glares at the evil bitch finally in front of her eyes again. "I'll kill myself before I ever have to choose between hurting Yoongi or Tan."
"You don't have to hurt him," she rolls her eyes, pushing a doctor towards her with a small silver briefcase in his hand. "You just have to put him to sleep for a little while."
"What are you planning?" she glares.
"Namjoon is meeting that dumb hag Mrs. Kim tomorrow night to get my location," she smirks. "You know he plans to leave you and Yoongi to watch the cameras. Put him to sleep once we take the two sluts. If you can do this and meet me at the theater, you'll be free of me forever."
Nari shakes with rage, numbly taking the metal from the doctor. "You swear this won't hurt him?" she asks him, her furious eyes boring into his.
"It won't," he smiles warmly, making her chest squeeze from the kindness in his eyes. "It'll just knock him out for a few hours. Just make sure to read the instructions carefully okay? There's only one bottle so you can't waste it."
"Make sure you take the whole box," Hae-Ran glares. "There's a camera on the latch. I'll know if you didn't use this on Yoongi."
Nari nods, her hands trembling from nausea and anxiety. She doesn't believe Hae-Ran that she'll ever actually be free. She's going to be trapped in this hell forever, and will eventually lose Yoongi all over again.
"One of my men will be outside to pick you up from the apartment and he'll drive you to us," she smirks. "You'd better not fuck this up."
She turns back towards her couch as they leave and opens up the case, surprised to see one syringe but two different vials of liquid. She moves carefully, making sure to not make much of a reaction because of the camera. It's faced directly at her, not down at the medicine.
She slowly turns them over to read the labels. The first one reads tranquilizer but the second one reads paralytic.
It takes everything Nari has to stop her eyes from bulging out of her head. The doctor definitely told her there was only one bottle.
He's given her a choice.
"I'm going to get a glass of whiskey, do you want one?" Nari asks Yoongi from Namjoon's kitchen.
"Yes please," he answers, keeping his eyes glued to the screens you and Nanami are on. He's so nervous about Namjoon meeting up with Mrs. Kim that he refuses to pull his eyes away. His attention being taken away from her makes it pretty easy to pull out her metal case and fill the syringe in front of the camera, cupping her hand over the label. Her hands are trembling from how nervous she is but she's going to do it. She's going to protect Tan and everyone else. She's just praying this doesn't backfire, making her lose everything she loves all at once.
"Love, can you-"
Yoongi's cut off as Nari stabs him into the neck, quickly injecting the paralytic from behind him. He's frozen in place as Nari moves to the front of the couch, trying not to tremble from the adrenaline.
"Nari what the fuck did you just do?" he asks with his eyes wide, staring down at the syringe still in her hand. The pain in his eyes as he looks back up at her makes her skin crawl.
"In about thirty seconds you're not going to be able to move," she says shakily, kneeling in front of him so the camera facing her behind Yoongi can't see her.
"What are you saying?" he asks slowly, already slurring his words. His eyes move back up to the screen, his blood running cold as he sees Nanami being held at gunpoint. He tries speaking again but he can't, his muscles are already too stiff. Nari cradles his neck to lay him down on the couch.
She remains silent as she grabs Yoongi's phone, opening it up using his facial recognition.
"I'm sorry Yoongi," she says loud enough for the camera to hear. "I'm so sorry for hurting you."
His eyes are the only thing left that can move and they flicker down as Nari points to a new charm on her bracelet that Yoongi didn't put there. He glances back up at her and he's met with pleading eyes.
"Trust me," she mouths, pointing back at his phone. His eyes widen when he sees a tracking app. "One hour," she mouths silently, trying to let him know how long he'll be stuck, hopefully that being enough time for Hae-Ran to not check the cameras anymore, but also enough time for him to save everyone.

8 63The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.

8 221Where She Belongs
Looking at the motivational poster, I couldn't stop myself from snorting at the ridiculousness of it all. 'Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?' For a race that is so co-dependent on one another, Samara just isn't. Yet it's more than that, Samara knows it, feels it, but what exactly it is, is something she has been unable to discover.
