《What lies beneath》Chapter Twenty

Cole's POV

As I poured coffee into my mug, I watch out my window, as a guy runs into my front yard with his boxers on, from my guest bedroom window.

I chuckle shaking my head and head into my living room, sitting on the couch.

I hear the guest bedroom door open and Jade walks out. "Good night?" I ask, teasingly.

She shrugs. "Eh."

"You know he can go through my front door, right?" I ask, smirking at her.

"There's no fun in that," she says.

"So when can I stop lying to my girlfriend?" I call out, as she walks into the kitchen.

"Till she finds out," Jade says.

"What exactly are you telling her?" I ask.

"That Kade and I are serious," she claims. She walks back into the living room and pops down beside me.

"And she believes you?" I question.

"I've been lying to her for years," Jade states. "She thinks that's me telling the truth."

"Your such a nice friend," I say dryly.

"Thanks," Jade says.

Once I finish my coffee, I get dressed and head to the supermarket. Addylin had morning shift. 6am to 11am

A smile erupts my face, as I see Addylin walking out of the store. She stops and looks around, till her eyes lay on my car. She walks quickly over to me and gets into the passenger seat.

She leans over and gives me a quick kiss. "Hello," she whispers, against my lips.

"Hi," I whisper back.

She leans back into her seat and puts her seatbelt on. "How was your morning?" She asks.

"I only got up half an hour ago," I say, chuckling.

"Up all night again?"

I nod and pull out of the parking lot. "I have to find three new clients by May."

She gasps. "That's next month."

I hum. "So now I'm looking around the internet for new art."

"I was all by myself last night," Addylin says. "Jade was out with Kade again?"

I clear my throat. "Are they serious?"

I see her shrug. "I don't know."

"Is it weird for you?" I ask her. "Since it's your best friend and your ex?"

"Not really," she answers. "Kade and I weren't serious, and we did end on good terms," she states. "Plus he's more of a match for Jade then James was."

We get to my street and I relax a little when I see Jade's bike out of my driveway. I pull in and when I stop the car, quickly get out and open Addylin's door for her. She giggles and gets out of the car, kissing my cheek in the process.

I take her hand in mine and lead her to the front door, and then into my house.

I mentally scowl when I see the mess Jade left in my kitchen. Addylin whacks my arm and starts cleaning it up. "You can't leave your kitchen like this Cole," Addylin says. "This is what attracts rats and mice."

"I just wanted to see you," I lie.

She crosses her arms at me. "Don't lie to me."

"What makes you think I'm lying?" I ask.

"Your right cheek twitches," she states.

I sigh and run my fingers through my hair. "I've sought of had someone stay with me," I admit.

"Oh," Addylin says, surprised. "Who is it?"

I bite my bottom lip. "Jade."

Addylin stops cleaning and just stares at me. "Why has Jade been staying here?" She growls.

I can't lie to Addylin about this anymore. "She brings her dates here," I state.

"And you just let her?" Addylin asks. "By the way, when the hell did you two become friends?"

"She didn't want you to judge her," I say. "And we have been friends since our fight," I answer. "She took me out for a drink."

"Did you guys have sex?" She asks.

"No," I hiss. "I'd never see Jade that way."

Addylin's bottom lip trembles and I quickly stand up, wrapping my arms around her. She sobs into my chest, her body shaking uncontrollably. "S-She a-always t-thinks t-the w-worst o-of m-me," she sobs.

"It's okay," I whisper in her ear.

"It's not though," she cries, pulling away from me. "I-I haven't given her any reason for her to believe that I think of her as a slut, for sleeping around."

I brush my thumb over her cheek, wiping the tears that had fallen down. "Then maybe she doesn't deserve to have you as a friend," I whisper.

"C-can you stop letting her stay here?" Addylin asks, softly. "I-I don't feel comfortable with another girl staying here."

"Of course," I say. "Anything for you."

She wraps her arms around my waist and kisses my shoulder. "I love you," she murmurs.

"I love you too," I say.

"I have another question," she says.

"What's up?" I ask. She pulls her head off my shoulder and looks up at me.

"Why were your knuckles bruised?"
