《What lies beneath》Chapter Seventeen

Addylin's POV
I decided against going to Lily's christening. Only because Sasha couldn't come with me and I didn't want to go alone.
Cole hasn't spoken to me in a week. And I don't even why. He knew coming into this relationship that I was waiting till marriage, so why is he so angry about it?
I unlock my front door and head inside my apartment. I stop in my steps and see Jade making out with some random guy.
Jade pulls away and her eyes widen in horror. She quickly gets off the guy, who's face I can't see. He suddenly turns and I gasp in horror.
Kade.
"Hey Addylin," Kade chuckles, nervously.
"Jade what the hell," I scream.
"Addylin it's not what it-"
"So you weren't just cheating on James?" I question
"No I wasn't," Jade says. "James and I broke up." I go to speak but she cuts me off. "Four months ago."
I frown. "But he still comes over?"
"We occasionally hook up," Jade states. "I just let you believe we were together because you would judge me for hooking up with someone out of a relationship."
"I wouldn't of judged you," I argue.
"Can I go?" Kade asks, from the couch.
"Yeah," Jade says. "Just meet me at Claren's yeah?"
Kade nods. "I'll be there."
Kade kisses Jade before exiting our apartment.
"Sit down," Jade orders. "We need to talk."
I nod and do as she says, sitting on the couch. She sits beside me and I notice a faded bruise on her neck. "Does Kade choke you?" I ask.
"Oh no that was Cole," she answers. "I surprised him."
"Oh," I mumble.
"That's what i wanted to talk to you about," Jade says. "I don't think you should be with Cole."

"Jade I've-"
"You aren't treating him right," Jade cuts me off.
I frown. "What are you talking about?"
"Why are you with Cole?" Jade asks, crossing her legs.
"He's funny, he's smart, he's handsome-"
"Do you trust him?" Jade asks, cutting me off again.
"I don't know," I say. "I can't really know till we are married."
"But how can you marry him if you don't trust him?" Jade asks.
"Because I love him," I say.
Jade runs her fingers through her hair. "Addylin you are so stupid."
"I beat you in the SAT-"
"I meant with Cole," she growls. "He trusted you by telling his life story, and you can't give him that same trust?"
"I-I-I-"
"You growled at me for treating Cole like a monster," she snaps. "Maybe you should take your own advice."
"I don't treat Cole like a monster," I argue.
"So why don't you trust him then?" She asks, crossing her arms. "Because he treats you well? Because he drives you to work everyday? Because he drew you a painting?"
I bite my lip in distress and feel the tears falling. "Jade-"
"You need to grow up," Jade says. "Because if you don't, he will find someone who does trust him and it will be too late for you."
She storms off and seconds later I hear her door slam.
Why don't I trust Cole?
*
The bus to Cole's apartment was horrible. I had some weird guy, stroking my hair and was sat next to this weird cat lady.
If I didn't get Cole back, that would be me.
I walk up his pathway and take a deep breath before knocking on his door. A minute later and I was still waiting for him to answer. His car was there so he was definitely home. I turn the doorknob and my heart picks up as it opens.

Why is his door unlocked?
I walk in and scowl at his counter, as I see eaten preprepared meals. I would talk to him about that later.
I walk into the living room and sigh in relief when I see Cole in one piece. He couldn't hear me knock because he had noise cancelling headphones on.
He faced away from me, as he stroked his paintbrush onto his canvas. I walk up behind him and admire the portrait. I was surprised to see him painting Jade.
Why Jade?
He takes his headphones off and turns to me. "Hi."
"Hi," I mumble. "How'd you know I was here?"
"I could smell your hair," he answers.
"That's weird," I comment.
He shrugs. "Probably."
"I'm sorry," I blurt out.
"Okay," he says.
"I do trust you," I say. "I just haven't seen any good come out of people having sex before marriage."
"I don't care about that Addylin," he says. "I'd wait till we were fifty if I had to."
"Then what's the problem?" I ask.
"Addylin I want you to believe me," he says. "I don't want you to think that I don't love you if I do."
"I-I-I-"
"If you don't trust me or believe me, why are you with me?" He asks. "Is there any point of us being in this relationship?"
"Cole I-" I stop and look away. "I don't know what you want."
"I want you," he says. "What do you want?"
I start crying and bite my lip. "Cole-"
"Answer the question Addylin," he says.
"I don't know," I whisper.
"Come back when you do," he says, putting his headphones back on and turning back to his painting.
I stand still and sob into my hands.
This can't be it.
