《What lies beneath》Chapter Twelve

Cole's POV
There's a knock on my door, as I was shaving. I pick up my phone and see it's 5:30. Addylin must be early.
I walk out of the bathroom, a towel around my waist and half my face covered in shaving cream. I open the door and smile at Addylin. She held a huge box in her hands and walks past me, placing it down on my kitchen counter.
When she does put it down, I finally get to see what she's wearing. Blue high waisted jeans and a nice white tank top.
I've never realised how big her breasts are.
"Sorry I'm here early," she says. "I just needed to get a start on dinner."
"It's all good," I state. "I'll just finish shaving and get dressed, and I will be right with you."
I walk back to my bathroom and grab my razor, slowly starting to shave again.
I have to do it slower than most men, because of my scars. If I pick one of them, it just starts this whole scab on my face.
And it ain't pretty.
After finishing shaving my face, I put on a pair of sweats, and head back to Addylin. Now that I don't have cream on my face, I lean over and kiss her.
"You smell nice," she comments, once I pull away.
"Aftershave," I state. I lean against the counter and watch her slice potatoes. "What's for dinner?"
"Steak and potato bake," she answers. My stomach growls, which makes Addylin giggle. "How do you like your steak cooked?"
"Well done," I answer. She scowls at me. "What?"
"You are a horrible person," she says. "You must have blood in your steak."
"I don't like blood," I say.

"Okay," she says. "I guess I could leave it out."
I chuckle and move to the other side of the counter. "Any plans for your birthday?" I ask.
"Jade is throwing a party," Addylin replies. "You should come."
"I don't think that's a good idea," I state. "I don't do well in big crowds."
She frowns and looks up from slicing. "Why?"
"A lot of people surprising me, in a small room? Yeah I'll pass," I say.
She pouts. "But it's my birthday."
"We can do a lunch," I suggest.
"I can't," she whispers.
"Why? You have plans?" I ask. She nods. "With who?"
"N-no o-one important," she mumbles. She pushes the potato aside and starts cutting up bacon.
"That's a lie," I say. She furrows her eyebrows at me. "You only stutter around me if you are lying to me, or have something to tell me."
She drops the knife and bites her bottom lip. "I-I'm h-having l-lunch w-with m-my e-ex."
I watch as she picks up the knife and starts dicing again. "Your ex?" I question. "As in the guy you dated before me?"
She nods. "Yes."
"Did you end on bad terms?" I ask.
"Oh no," she answers. "We just decided we were better as friends."
"Did Jade like him?" I ask.
"Yes," Addylin mumbles.
I grit my teeth. "Why don't you just invite him to the party, and have lunch with me?"
"Kaden works night shift," she states. "Since he's a Doctor."
Fuck me.
"Uh just call me when dinners ready," I say. I quickly walk out of the kitchen and into my closet, grabbing my paint, brushes and canvas.

I don't know what I start drawing. I just let the anger I had for this Kade guy run through me and into the canvas.
I hear Addylin's footsteps and tense when her hand softly touches my shoulder. "What are you painting?" She asks.
"No idea," I grunt.
"I-if you don't want me to, I won't go to the lunch," she whispers.
I sigh. "It's not that I don't want you to go," I explain. "It's who your going with."
"Kade and I will never ever work out," she says. "He wanted things I didn't."
"Sex?"
"Yes," she says. "Every one ends up leaving me for it."
"I promise you, I will not," I say. "The only reason I would leave you would be the fact that you have never ate ice cream."
"I guess I'm lucky I love ice cream then," she giggles. She leans down and kisses me. "Dinner will be ready in ten minutes," she says.
"Can't wait," I whisper.
