《What lies beneath》Chapter One

Addylin's POV

"Excuse me?" I look away from stocking the cans and see an older lady. Well not old. She was about late 30's, blond- grey hair and hazel eyes. "I'm looking for baking paper," she says.

"Uh, i-it s-should b-be i-in a-aisle n-nine n-next t-to t-the f-foil," I stutter, my anxiety getting the best of me.

"Thanks," she says. "You should really let a doctor check out the stutter."

I scowl at her retreating figure.

If only I could-

"Addylin!" My boss screams. "Get back to work."

"Yes sir," I say, timidly.

I quickly go back to stacking the cans of bake beans.

After work I head down the road to the bus stop.

I'm not allowed to drive.

Because I can't pass the test.

I'm a horrible driver.

I get on the bus and give the driver a timid smile as I scan my card. I look around for a spare seat and my heart picks up when I see none. I decided it was safer to sit next to a teenage girl, then a 40 year old man.

"So like he got angry and stormed out of my house in his boxers," the girl says into her phone. I could hear another voice through her phone. "I know! I told him that if he wanted sex then he should go back to that slutty ex of his." My eyes widen in surprise. Why would she tell him to do that. "Okay bye." She hangs up and I shift uncomfortably in my seat when I feel her gaze on me. "Do you go to my school?" She asks.

"N-no," I whisper. "I'm 23."

"Oh wow," she says. "You don't look a day over 15."

I mentally huff. I'm short but that doesn't mean I look 15. "Well I'm not," I say, my voice squeaking.

"I'm Sasha," she says.

I turn in my seat and take a good look at her. She had dark brown hair that was shoulder length, pretty blue eyes and natural makeup on that featured her cheekbones. "I-I'm A-Addylin," I say.

"Cool name," she comments. The bus stops and she stands up. "See you tomorrow?"

"Uh okay," I say unsurely.

She gets off the bus and I watch her strut down the street.

She was pretty.

I fumble with my keys as I unlock the door and enter my apartment.

Sorry it's not mine, it's Jade and I's apartment.

Jade has been my best friend since I was five. My mum left me in stupid kindergarten and Jade was the one who comforted me, when I burst into tears. She then took me under her wing and we've been that way ever since.

"Shit," Jade screams, jumping off the couch as she sees me at the doorway. "Fuck sake Addy, you enter a room, you tell people your in it," she growls, running her hand through her dark black hair.

Her hair was naturally strawberry blonde, but in high school she went through an emo phase. I guess you can say she still is because, she still has all her piercings in. She literally has everything pierced that you can get at a parlour. EVERYTHING.

"Sorry," I apologise, dropping the Chinese takeout on the counter

"How was work?" She sighs, slumping back down on the couch. I sit beside her and notice the tv was playing Annabelle.

My best friend is sick.

"Alright," I mutter. "Andy kept screaming at me again."

"I tell you everyday you should quit," Jade says. "You want to own your cafe so do it!"

"You know I have no money," I murmur.

"You do, you just want to use it for your dream wedding," she mocks me.

"I'm sorry I want it to be special," I grumble.

She rolls her eyes. "Did you at least buy me dinner?"

I nod and stand up, going back over to the counter and grabbing the bag of take out. I walk back to the couch and hand Jade her noodles.

She changes the movie to something we would both like and then we eat quietly. Well except for Jade's slurping.

She not very ladylike.
