《Psycho》Day 13

Sunday's were supposed to be my break, yet I spent all day analyzing Jason's words and the possible meanings. My mind kept going to the conclusion that he had people watching from outside the prison, but I had yet to figure out why.
When Monday came and I met with Jason again, I decided to ask him again. But I felt like I had to get more of his trust to do so. So when Jason was seated, I stood up and stopped Mack.
"Do you think I could have the keys for Jason's ankles?" I whispered to him.
"What? Are you insane?! There's a reason I hang on to them, that's the only thing stopping him from killing you!" Mack yelled in a whisper.
"I don't think he'll kill me. We've made progress and I need to gain more of his trust. I'm rewarding him for cooperating!"
"You've never unlocked a prisoner's feet, and now the first time you do its to a murderer?" Mack questioned.
I admit, I sound crazy when it's out that way. But I had ideas and plans and I need that key. "Just please, trust me. I have the emergency button if anything goes wrong," I tried to persuade.
Mack sighed, rolling his eyes but handing me the keys for Jason's ankle cuffs "You're very...different Dr. Hartford," he stated.
"So I've heard," I mumbled, walking back to Jason.
He furrowed his eyebrows, his eyes on the keys I just received. "What is that for?" He asked.
I sat down across from Jason. "You'll find out. But first I need you to listen to me," I said. Jason hesitantly nodded in response. "On Saturday you asked if I trusted you, then said something about having eyes all over," I summed up.

"Yeah..." Jason confirmed.
"What did you mean? Why did you tell me you have eyes all over?" I asked him.
"Because I trust you enough to tell you. I thought you deserved to know," he answered.
"But why did I need to know? Jason, is something going to happen?"
Jason looked to the side, his jaw ajar. "You know I can't tell you that."
"Jason..."
"I'm not joking! You think this is a game we're playing?" He exclaimed, leaning forward. "Because this isn't a game to me, this is my life!"
I sat there, now hesitant to unlock his feet. But he needs to know I trust him too. "Since you trusted me...I want to trust you," I said softly.
"What?"
I stood up, kneeling down and unlocking his ankles. I stood once they were both unlocked, facing him. He stood up, revealing to be quite a bit taller than me. I stood my ground though. "I trust you," I stated simply.
"I told you yesterday that you shouldn't trust me, this is the opposite of what I meant," he said, looking down at me.
I nodded. "I know, but I'm different. Remember?" I reminded.
"I thought you don't do this?" He questioned.
"You're different too, Jason."
Jason stepped forward, making me take a step back. "I'm completely unchained now," he pointed out the obvious, stepping forward again.
Just like last time, I took another step back. "I know."
"Nothing is holding me back," he continued to get closer to me.
"I know," I repeated, taking a bigger step back.
"I could end your life right here and now," he threatened, getting closer.
"So what's stopping you?" I challenged, taking two steps back but hitting the wall on the second step.

He stared at me, lifting his arm and making me flinch, my eyes wired shut. But instead of being hit like I expected, his hand softly caressed my cheek. I calmed a little bit, opening my eyes and meeting Jason's. His thumb ran over my cheek and he leaned down, placing his lips on mine.
My heart started racing, shock running through my body. A fire even started. He pulled away, staring down at me, smirking as I just stared at him. "That is," he said softly, taking a step back. I felt numb and blinked a bit, surprised by what just happened. Jason walked back to his seat, grabbing his stress ball and tossed it in the air as he walked back to me.
The buzzer went off and Mack entered. "Keys?" He questioned.
I held them out to Mack, my mind still mesmerized. My eyes were on the floor and I felt the keys being taken from me. I stood there, waiting until I heard the door close.
What had just happened? Never in my wildest dreams would I expect that to happen. Yet, it did. Why did he do it? Would he do it again? Why did I feel so weird? Instead of having questions answered, I only had more. More questions about the mystery that is Jason McCann.
