Dear Bailey,

I'm sorry you aren't having a great time at your dad's house. My parents are divorced too. I don't really know my father. He left us when I was four. All I remember is that he was in the army. I think he might have hit my mom, but she would never talk to me about it.

You asked about my real home, but I don't really have one. The longest I ever stayed in one place was here in Florida when my mother and I moved in with my grandma. My mom passed away when I was a senior in high school. I spent a few months with my grandma before I joined the Marines. You asked what my business is here and she's it. I was informed early last week that my grandma passed away in her sleep. I'm her only living next of kin so I'm here for a few days to get her affairs in order.

What happened to those black glasses? You didn't have them on in the picture you sent. Tonight before I sat down to write this, I had to start sorting through a few boxes of my grandma's things. I found an old shoebox where she kept every pair of glasses she ever had plus some of my grandpa's. I thought of you right away. One pair had three tiny diamonds in the frame around the glass. She wore those before my mom was born because I can remember a picture of her with my grandpa in high school and she had them in it. I'm hoping I find that picture in one of these boxes.

I haven't had a lot of chances to read my half of the book, but last night I read until I fell asleep. I hope you're making progress on yours so that soon we'll have a reason we absolutely have to meet up. Forget fate or true love, one simply cannot leave a book ripped in half.

Tomorrow after work I have a few appointments I have to go to. I wish you were with me so that the whole thing didn't feel so morbid. There are many things I knew about my grandma, but what urn she'd like her ashes to be in is not one of them.

When can I see you again?

Love,

Lucas

P.S. Five Facts About My Friend Violet:

1) She loves comics-especially Superman.

2) She took high school math in 8th grade.

3) She is beautiful, but never wears make-up.

4) She likes girls. Really likes them....as in likes to kiss them.

5) She is not a threat in any way to you. (If you doubt that, please read #4 again).
