《A Normal Marriage》Epilogue

Success can be many things but it is never without a failure.
At night when everyone retired, Anisha and Abhimanyu stood in their balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee.
" Abhimanyu, did I do good? With my parents I mean." She hesitated.
" Anisha don't be doubtful of anything and I mean anything you do, henceforth." He declared.
" If I will not share my insecurities with you then who else?" She sassed.
" You do not share insecurities like this, asking for validations." He said.
" Abhi, par aap kabhi kuch nahi bolte. " She chided. ( Still you don't say anything.)
He shaked his head and kissed her cheek dragging her inside the room and telling her, " Sleep. We have a long day ahead."
That was the deal with Abhimanyu he would never tell you what goes on in his mind unless provoked.
Over the span of few days, Anisha got busy with counselling and finally she was admitted into National Law college, Mumbai. She had hugged him tight with the announcement of counselling results.
He had given her a look that said it all.
" I love you." She kissed his cheek.
He smiled wide and pulled her closer, " And I you, much much more than you can think."
That was the day their life took turns for better.
" Got into law college, made friends, hung around with them, made several research papers and presentations and finally enjoyed her life in the present.
She loved travelling especially with her husband, Abhimanyu MaanSingh, for whom she had denied invitation to several parties just for a moment of relief.
They had tumultuously tumbled into a schedule, the first year of college changed lots of dynamics. Anisha got busy, Abhimanyu took on more projects and they were both busier than ever and would often fight on trivial things but they always made up.
Anisha had learnt one thing, Never give up on life. Jo bhi hoga acche ke liye hi hoga! She applied this in her life and had cried out in tears when she found out she was pregnant in second year of law school.
Abhimanyu was shocked as to how the contraception failed but they embraced what it was with time and eventually, with the beginning of third year Anisha gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. They called her Advika, their cute little world.
With the arrival of Advika, responsibilities increased, moreover, Anisha's final semester approached and that was the year when she broke down. Abhimanyu had to console her like he consoled his daughter.
" What will I do when I have not had enough time to read and with Advika I'm so exhausted, I can't read anything after she sleeps!" She had claimed.
" If you want I will take a break and you prepare." He had offered.
She was moved but it was not as easy as it seemed and Anisha cried saying, " Will you be disheartened if I fail? What stupid questions am I even asking?"

He shushed her and said, " Have faith and study. Fail aur pass baad ki baat!"
She had nodded her head and controlled the tears.
With several attempts at making a schedule and studying according to Advika's time, Anisha had studied and passed with flying colours. One of the toughest tasks she had ever done.
On the day of her graduation she saw the immense pride and happiness in his eyes and all her efforts came true. Her entire family including her parents were present and she could say this was amongst the most memorable days of her life.
After getting down the stage, Anisha had made her way towards Abhimanyu and handed over her degree to him. It was equally his, though he had not studied with her but he made her dreams come true.
Abhimanyu frowned at her and she shaked her head and said, " You made this possible and I am forever indebted to you!"
" It was my duty." He simply said.
She smiled and added, " and your love. I love you Abhimanyu!" Advika as if sensing the confession made grabby hands at her mother and she smiled, " Yes, I love you too my world!"
Abhimanyu smiled at them and enclosed his ladies within his arms.
Though they started out as friends, today they had immense amounts of love and respect for each other making their unusual marriage a normal and successful marriage."
Advika said with a twinkle in her eye.
" Your parents are really an inspiration, especially, your mother, and father, he is an ideal husband." said Kunal.
Advika smiled and leaned into his chest. "They want to meet you. Said if I don't introduce you soon then they will find out on their own and then mom will have a family court where she will give me punishments where I will have to show all my embarassing moments to you! So, I beg you, please Save me from the embarassment!"
Kunal chuckled nervously, " She would be shocked. I am an intern in your mother's law firm and God forbid if she gives me tests, then?"
" If you are scared of Mum, you would be damned when you meet Dad. He is extra overprotective when it comes to me! Plus, there is my younger brother who becomes my elder brother when it comes to guys!"
" Are you scaring me, Advu?" Kunal shivered.
" Nope, training you to meet my family. Then there is Daadi and Daadu, Tauji and Taiji, their sons Nihal and Chetan, May God give you strength to endure the whole bunch!"
" Kisne bola tha muje teen bhaiyon ki behen ko girlfriend banane ke liye!" Kunal exclaimed and Advika laughed.
Her phone rang and she answered, " Hello, Mumma!"
" Give the phone to him!" Anisha ordered.
Advika's mouth fell open and she couldn't help but exclaimed, " Mumma how do you even? Let it be, he is not ready right now! I will bring him to you soon."

" Advika, give him the phone. I promise, I will not scare away the boy." Anisha promised.
Advika gave a watery smile to Kunal and handed over the phone to him who gulped and accepted the phone,
" Hello, Good evening Ma'am!"
" Good evening, beta!" Anisha replied warmly, " I wanted to invite you over dinner on the coming Saturday. I just want to meet the boy my daughter hangs around with, nothing else."
" Uhh, sure ma'am. I will be there."
" Good!" Anisha exclaimed and put the phone down.
Advika looked at her phone and Kunal alternatively, her mother was something else.
*Saturday*
The house smelled of delicacies and the people present had their mouth watered. Ofcourse, Anisha had cooked the dinner herself.
" Mumma, you have outdone yourself! Will you do the same when I introduce my girlfriend?" asked Aditya, Anisha and Abhimanyu's son.
" Son, how will we find out without you taking steps in right direction?" Abhimanyu teased. He was afterall aware of his son's girlfriend.
" Dad!" Aditya exclaimed.
" Do you know something, I don't Abhi?" Anisha asked with narrowed eyes.
" Jaan...umm why are you not ready yet? The boy could be your future son-in-law!" He tried diverting her attention.
" Time? It's already half past six! I'm going to go get ready." She ran to their room.
Abhimanyu heaved a sigh of relief and turned towards Aditya, " You know I can't keep this from her forever. So better hurry up and tell her yourself!"
Aditya gulped and nodded his head.
Abhimanyu sighed and went inside their room. Apparently, he had forgotten his phone.
Anisha was there inside doing her makeup and adorning herself when he whistled.
" Besharam! Sharam nahi aati aapko Zara si! Bacche hai do bade-bade!" She chastised.
Abhimanyu shrugged and wrapped his arms around her. " Kya karein baccho ki maa din pe din jawaan ho rahi!"
Anisha shaked her head at his antics and blushed.
He chuckled, " Ab agar itne saalon baad bhi mohtarma inta sharmaygi tab kya karega ye bechara Abhimanyu aur uska dil!"
Anisha laughed aloud, " Mr. MaanSingh this attitude doesn't suit you!"
" Mrs. MaanSingh you have to bear with it!"
She chuckled and he said, " Come on if you are ready we shall meet the boy."
She nodded, " You will not scare away the poor boy! You have had enough fun scaring away the boys she likes and my daughter has to suffer!"
" I make no promises, Meri beti ki vakeel!" He chided.
" Aur aapki bhi!" She replied cheekily.
He laughed at her and they descended down the stairs hand in hand, looking like a power couple and Kunal who had bravely sat beside Aditya awaiting Advika's parents gulped.
He was meeting his boss and most importantly, his girlfriend's parents, God save him!
The couple approached the living room, where everyone else was waiting for their presence, they smiled and Kunal got up to greet them presenting a bunch of roses to Anisha.
Anisha smiled and accepted them while Abhimanyu narrowed his eyes. The boy has guts to give roses to his wife in his presence.
Kunal gulped as soon as he saw Abhimanyu's face and he offered his hand for a handshake and Abhimanyu gave him a tight handshake.
Advika who saw the exchange sighed and looked at her mother who in turn winked at her. Advika blushed and Anisha saved the poor boy from her husband's tactics.
They got seated and introduced each other and by the end of night Anisha was pleased to meet her daughter's choice. He was good.
As Kunal said his goodbye, Abhimanyu stood in the middle of the living room waiting for his daughter to address the elephant in the room.
"Dad?" Advika called him as soon as Kunal left and everyone in the room looked at them, awaiting Abhimanyu's reaction.
" He is good. But one mistake and he is out." He said calmly.
Everyone in the room sighed of relief and Advika jumped into her father's arms. Abhimanyu caught her and pulled her to his chest, " You know you are our world, right?"
" Yes, daddy." She said softly.
" You know your mother's story and I promise, I would be understanding but never hide anything from me, ok?" He said hoarsely.
Advika nodded and hugged him tight.
Anisha looked at Aditya and said, " Don't think your dad can hide things for too long from me. You better introduce us or tell me about her soon or ask your sister how Kunal came here."
Aditya gulped at her threat and everyone present laughed.
Abhimanyu came to his rescue and said, " He will tell you everything soon. For now we are going on a couple's vacation, the two of us."
Anisha beamed at him and said, " Yes, I need a breather and after I come back, Adi will be my target!"
They all chuckled at her and Aditya nodded. He sure had to introduce his girlfriend soon.
Abhimanyu pulled Anisha towards him and said, " Don't think too deep into your mother's actions, she is just looking out for you both."
The kids said, " Yes, dad we understand and we love the both of you."
" And I love you both and ofcourse your father who gave me this entire family and life." Anisha said with a hint of tears in her eyes. Though she was a strong woman but her family saw her build this personality and she never shied away from showing her vulnerability from them.
" We, Jaan, we built this life from a normal marriage and we, your parents, want you to have your own beautiful life. Just that we can't stop looking out for you." Abhimanyu said pulling his wife closer.
The kids smiled and engulfed them into a big family hug.

The last year is upon us. The world is ending, but you already knew that; everyone does. Spring has come, and the flowers have bloomed here in this small town with no name. Thousands of different colours now paint the field that had been coloured by frost alone just yesterday. The townsfolk have gathered by the field to celebrate the beginning of the last spring with so many smiling faces. Tears too. I can’t help but wonder whether the flowers will bloom again before the sky falls upon us. Others must be thinking the same. There are moments when the smiles fade and their eyes glaze over as they realize just how near to the end we are. They forget it again in moments. They make themselves forget. The children aren’t like that, though. They don’t seem to understand, or they’ve come to accept it in a way that their parents just can’t manage to. This one boy actually asked me why I was sad. I had to wonder whether he was actually aware that the world is ending, but it seemed wrong to mention it. I ended up just telling him that I was waiting for someone, and he scampered off, wearing a silly smile. I can’t help but feel jealous of him. The beginning of next spring; the day that the world ends. It seems so far away, yet so close. Wherever you are now, I have to ask, how are you spending your last spring? Did you get to see the flowers bloom? Did you smile? Did you cry?
