《Playing With the Rich Boys | ✓》Chapter Thirty-Eight - The Eye of the Storm

As requested, I'll be including a brief summary of what's been happening in the story :~) Not too sure how to structure or format it but we shall see haha

After a party Logan kissed Daisy but he doesn't remember it. He's falling apart as his parents file for divorce. The DNA test letter results that Logan ordered and stashed inside a book went missing after the party, and news outlets have published the fact that he has a half sibling.

In the background, Daisy's suspicious that her mum is having an affair with Courtney's dad. Courtney is the girl who was throwing up at a party and Daisy helped her. Parker knows about her suspicions and has been driving her to and from school to try and earn her forgiveness after the whole Clarissa ordeal.

This chapter picks up when Daisy agrees to meet Logan at school early to see what they should do about the news, but Holden intercepts her first.

Holden and I stopped in our tracks and before I had a chance to stop him, Holden closed the distance between him and Logan, slamming him into the locker. "What are you trying to do!?" He exclaimed.

"You think I wanted my family name smeared across the front cover of every paper in the country!?" Logan shifted his weight and shoved Holden backwards.

"Guys stop!" I yelled. Before I had a chance to step in, they were back at it. Holden had Logan by the lapels of his blazer up against the locker.

"Take this somewhere else! You want everyone here to see this!?" Parker's voice came from behind me. He grabbed Holden by his arms and pulled him backwards. "You okay?" He asked, looking at me. I nodded.

"Calm down man. We can fix this," Parker said to Holden. "Let's talk about this somewhere more private."

"Are you okay?" I asked, turning to Logan.

"Fine," he said gruffly, straightening his blazer.

The four of us were standing around in their club room. Parker made sure to stand in between Logan and Holden. "The DNA you ran...is it mine?" Holden asked.

Logan crossed his arms and leaned against the table of the kitchenette. "Yeah," he said.

"You're fucking lying. What are you getting out of this?" Holden snapped. Logan rolled his eyes.

"And why the fuck would I want to do that?"

"I don't know. You're the psycho with some vendetta against me!"

"Daisy?" Logan looked at me and I knew it was finally time to talk about what I'd heard at the gala that night. I'd been pretending that I hadn't heard anything. I'd told myself it was to 'protect' Logan and Holden, but I'd just been too cowardly to do anything about it.

"You knew?" Holden asked.

"This isn't her fault, Holden," Parker said slowly.

"I'm sorry!" I exclaimed.

"Tell him," Logan said. "Please...you promised that when I was ready to hear it, you'd tell me."

"When did you become best friends?" Holden continued. "Did you forget this guy got someone to steal your uniform and blackmailed us?"

"I'm so sorry Holden." The lump in my throat was growing and my heart was about to break free from my ribcage.

"You're trying to tell me that this DNA test isn't a complete fraud? How is this even possible?"

"You think this is just a problem for you? At least both of your parents are your parents!" Logan yelled.

"Daisy...I just need to know if what he's saying is true," Holden said.

"It is," I whispered. The colour drained from his face, a blank expression replacing the anger in his eyes. "Holden," I said, holding onto his forearm. He pulled away from me.

"Don't touch me." Then he left the room, slamming the door behind him.

"Can we talk?" Logan asked.

"I'll leave. Just lock the room up when you leave," Parker said, giving me a key.

"Thanks Parker." He nodded.

Logan sat down at a stool by the kitchenette, his head in his hands. "God this is a huge mess," he said. I sat down beside him. When I found out he hadn't opened the results of the DNA test, I thought this wouldn't ever surface. I should've known a secret this big couldn't stay a secret. "Will you tell me what you heard that night now?"

So I told him everything. How his parents had a big fight while they were engaged. How his mum had been drunk that night and slept with Holden's dad, who at the time was not in any relationship. How she hadn't slept with Logan's father until How she'd kept it a secret until Logan had ordered the DNA test.

"She said she loved you. All of you," I said. "She was crying because she was scared she was going to lose you."

"I should never have done it. If I hadn't ordered that test, none of this ever would have happened." The tears fell down his cheeks and he rubbed them away with his sleeve.

"You're going to be okay," I said, even though I wasn't sure it'd be true. Would any of their lives be the same after this? He turned to me, his head fell against my shoulder, and instinctively, I wrapped my arms around him. I could feel the warmth of his tears seep through onto my shoulder.

Holden hadn't made it to any of our classes and I didn't know where he'd gone. He'd ignored all the messages I'd sent him. Final class ended and I texted Parker as soon as the bell went off.

D: How's Holden?

P: I'll call you

Before I had a chance to protest, my phone started ringing. "Hello?" I answered.

"Holden's holed himself up at home. I'll pick you up outside the gate." His voice was ragged like he'd been running.

I hurried out to the parking lot where I found Parker's car. I got into the passenger seat, but Parker was still leaning over his steering wheel, staring out into the yard. "Who are we waiting for?" I asked.

"Allie," he said. "She's probably the only one who's ever seen Holden like this. Maybe she can calm him down."

A few minutes later I saw Allie hurrying out towards the car. "Sorry guys, maths teacher was way too excited to talk about logarithms," she said, slinging her bag into the bag seat and crawling in afterwards. "Did he barricade himself in his room again?" She asked.

Parker nodded. "I think so."

"He always does this," Allie groaned. "Likes to run from his problems."

"The last time this happened -" Parker began, but he glanced over at me and stopped. There was history between all of them long before I met them. I'd always felt like there was something unfinished between Holden and Allie.

"It's okay, you don't have to fill me in," I said.

"It's all in the past, and I've moved on from it," Allie said. She took in a deep breath. "The reason me and Holden broke up was because I got pregnant, and I miscarried before we had a chance to talk about what we were going to do. It was just too much for us to get past."

"I'm so sorry," I said.

She shrugged. "My parents were pissed. Only the three of us knew - and now four of us do," she smiled sadly at me. "When we broke up, Holden really went off the rails for a while. We were just kids though, there was no way we'd be able to keep the baby. But it was just too much to handle." She looked up for a moment and she stifled a sniffle.

"A part of me will always love Holden, and there'll always be something tying us together. So I don't want to see him go down that road again."
