《His Angels》sequel: chapter twenty-one

I got into the car and Jax drove us as fast as he could without getting in trouble. We did not need to waste any more time.

Jax and I didn't even get dressed, we were both wearing sweatpants and a hoodie.

We went through the front desk, having them take our pictures and all that other stuff you have to do as a visitor in the school.

We get guided from security into the office where Journey is seated in the corner with her arm crossed and her lips pouted.

"Journey," I said sternly.

She looks up, with the same look on her face and gets up marching over to us. "I have a reason."

"And your--" I get cut off by the principal opening her door.

"Mr. Monroe." She greets with a smile on her face. She looks over to me, "Good to see you again." She puts her hand out.

I grabbed it shaking it, "I wish it was under better circumstances."

"Me too. We have kept Journey out here because the parents of her classmate wanted that until you arrived."

"That's fine," Jax says. She motions for us to enter her office. The parents of her classmate glared at us as we walked in.

I can clearly tell that they are some mean judgmental people.

Great, I already know how this is gonna work out.

"Brynn, Jax meet Portia and Michael the parents of Karen." Mrs. Lina says. "These are Journey's parents.

I bit back a laugh at the name 'Karen.'

I'm sorry, I can't help it.

"You two are unbelievably young," Michael says with a hint of judgment in his tone.

Jax just gives him the stink eye, not saying anything else. Every time we go out we always get those comments so we were used to hearing them. I usually don't pay any mind but Jax still gives people dirty looks.

I don't blame him, it gets annoying when you're constantly being judged.

"So as the teacher explained to me, Karen has been calling Journey names all morning. I'm not sure if they were playing but Karen did make the first hit." She explains.

"Well, that's because she kept telling me to hit her first." Karen whines, crossing her arms.

Her hair was spread out in every direction possible while Journey's bun was now a regular ponytail.

Good one Juni.

"I'd like for this disobedient child to get removed from this school and away from my child. She is a psychotic, deranged child." Portia says pointing her fingers in my face.

Self control, Brynnley. You're not in high school, you're an adult. You will not fight an ugly hag in Journey's presence.

I grabbed her hand gently and pushed it down. "My child is not psychotic or deranged so if you call her that again I'll show you what psychotic and deranged looks like." I gave her a nice yet not so nice smile while Jax muffles his laughter.

Portia rolls her eyes and looks back at the principal. "Whatever, I'd like Journey's punishment to be getting removed from this school."

"Excuse me?"

Journey clears her throat and we all looked at her. She was currently sitting on Jax's lap with her hand raised. "May I speak principal Lina?"

"No--" Portia starts and my head snaps in her direction.

"She's not asking you, she's asking her principal." I glared. She shuts her mouth, rolling her eyes again.

If only I could just gut her eye out.

Lina smiles, "Yes, you may Journey."

"My mommy taught me about the history behind racial slurs and how we shouldn't use any of them especially towards other people because it is very offensive and could hurt their feelings." She says all in one breathe. She clears her throat before starting again, "Even though I am fully white, my mommy, my uncles, aunt, grandpas, and my brother and sister aren't. Even though it doesn't pertain to me, it is still offensive."

The more she spoke, the bigger my smile grew. I was astonished and amazed by this little human.

"Keep going, Journey." Jax nudged her.

"Karen called my mommy an immigrant during a group project. She said that my mommy didn't belong in America and she also called her the n-word, the l-slur (ling-ling). I defended my mommy. I'm not going to say sorry because the only person who needs to apologize is Karen."

That's my baby. I kissed her cheek multiple times before the words start to hit me.

"What the hell are you teaching your child Portia?" I asked.

"Please I don't even know where she got those words from." Portia laughs, but you can clearly tell that was far from the truth.

Poor Karen.

"Mom, I heard you and dad calling the neighbors that word." Karen pouts.

I shake my head while Jax mutters some incoherent words under his breath while covering Journey's ears.

"You better find a new school for your child to learn at," I told them.

"What? You can't expel my child?!" Michael snaps.

"Actually our district is very strict when it comes to racial slurs and racism in general. We do not want parents who teach their children those slurs to be a part of this community. Yes, they can learn from it but according to the looks of it, you won't so therefore it will continue. Our biggest priority here is the children's safety along with having them treat each other equally." Lina says.

Portia flattens out her skirt, her face was red. Literally bright red. "You can't do that! Call the superintendents, I want to talk to them."

"Turn around," Lina says. Portia and Michael looked at her confused and she pointed towards me.

"Niece of the superintendent, nice to meet you." I waved. "Kyla put this rule down for a reason. None of the parents here have any issue with it, so if you do you can leave." I told them.

They snarled at me. "Whatever, I rather not have my child in a school full of kids who are gonna turn ghetto and join a gang anyways." Portia grabs her purse.

"I'll show you, old lady," I mumbled trying to get up. I already had a hair tie around my wrist, trying to tie my hair up but Jax grabs my arm.

"Just let them go. You know damn well no matter how hard you hit her, she'll still be racist." He tells me.

"Fine." I put my hair back down sighing. "Is Journey still getting punished?"

"She can go home today but she'll have detention for a week." Lina smiles. "You've raised her well."

"It wasn't all me," I said, making Jax smile.

"It was Jax's mom too. She is wonderful."

Jax's smile drops making me hold back my laugh.

"Good job Journey for speaking up, we wouldn't have known about their racism if it wasn't for you." Lina holds her hand out. Journey smiles shaking her hand.

"Alright let's go home, have a good one Lina." Jax says as we head out.

"You guys too!"

I held Journey's hand while Jax held the other. "Should we get the twins?" Jax asks.

"Should we?" I asked him not knowing the answer.

"It's nap time, so no." Journey answers us smiling brightly.

"Okay, let's go to McDonald's." I cheered picking Journey up.

Gosh, she's a big girl. Well tall just like her daddy.

"Who's paying?" Jax calls out from behind.

"You!" Journey and I yelled in sync.

Jax mutters some more words under his breath while we both laughed at him.

Juni bug is smart asf isn't she?

Teaching little kids about equality and rights is going to be such a big thing in the future and I love it. Even though many people still have to deal with racism, we can still say that it has been improved by quite a bit.

What is a thing that you're going to make sure you teach your child growing up?

Mine is most definitely equality and how to be grateful no matter what. I need to start writing down, which ways I could teach my kids even though I don't plan on having them for another 5plus years lmao. It's always good to be prepared.

I hope you guys enjoy this chapter, have a great day! Love you, MUAH!
