《Violet》«Chapter 14 - Unconsious»

It had been four months since my arrival to Adrian's house. I adventured around his house, especially his large backyard.
Trees and bushes framed the edges of a white fence surrounding the backyard. A small waterfall made of rocks sat by a campfire in the middle and a patio withheld a wooden bench and cushioned chairs. I was curled up in a ball, folding my arms around my knees and stared up at the red leafs of the trees.
This was what I did everyday. Stay at his house while he disappeared each morning and appeared back in the evenings, just words of exchange per day.
I couldn't work as I was still healing from my injuries. And my family were still missing and I was told to stay indoors incase they would plan to attack me. The police believed that they were in some shady business or maybe even drugs.
I chuckled grimly, It wouldn't matter if they did attack me. Maybe if they did plan to kill me, it would be my benefit. I would get to leave this lonely world. My burden would be extinguished off the Hayes and my family would finally get what they want.
I have no one now, but I used to. Two of my most important people, my dada and Darcy. My dada was resting in peace, and Darcy and I were separated. It broke my heart every time I thought about it. I sniffed feeling tears well up in my eyelids. I hated myself for acting coldly towards him.
The gray gloom of the sky didn't make it much better. The campfire was burning a soft flame, emitting warmth and yellow shadows. I only had this backyard to view and connect with. A small chirp of a blackbird interrupted me, flying through some branches of a tree close by.
I watched the dull evening for a while, as the crackling of the campfire sounded behind me. I turned around to face the waterfall. It was rolling with unlimited water, but it was just a cycle of repeated water sprouting out of a pipe. Nevertheless, it still had a remarkable effect on its surroundings.
I tucked a strand of my loosened hair behind my ear and rubbed my palms together. Adrian wouldn't be home in a while so I decided to stay outside but when he was back, I reserved myself in my room.
I found out that he was working as a model, I think that's why he disappeared often everyday. I was looking through a bunch of newspapers last week when I came across one with his pictures by a branded company.
I had to admit, I felt happy for him even if I never wanted to. He was good looking in them too, I had to give him that. But he looked nothing like himself in the pictures now. In the pictures, he was displayed as a handsome man with a vibrant face but now he was dammed with dark circles under his eyes.
I curled myself up to the warmth of the fire. I listened the peaceful sounds of my surroundings, dwelling in its lure of sweetness.

Third person's POV
Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead as he ran upon the treadmill at a fast pace. Strands of his wet blonde hair stuck to his head as he grunted. Inhaling and exhaling intensely, Adrian's skin was a bright red, his blue eyes at a loss of life.

He was at a gym, training excessively for the past weeks for getting up to date with the time he missed out on for his next photo shoot, which was to take place in two months. And cause he needed to stay away from Violet.
The machine rattled when Adrian plunged forward, his hands turning white on the supporting bar. Violet, she was everything that he felt defeated of. Every time he looked at her he felt guilty for what he did in the past. He chose to stay away from her for a while, focusing on his job, modeling.
"That's it! Great time this one." His coach sat on a bench with a notepad, scribbling on it with his pen. Adrian slowed down until he stood still, a few heavy breaths escaped his lips.
Hopping off of the treadmill, he excused himself for a drink of water and then patted his face of all the sweat by a towel.
The coach scrambled up to Adrian and grinned. "In a month or two you'll be back to date with your fitness," The coach hesitated before continuing. "Don't stress yourself, you've been in here two times a day for three hours at a time."
Adrian rolled his eyes out of the sight of the coach and tiredly nodded his head, he wanted a shower at that moment.
It was seven in the evening when he arrived home. His eyes were droopy, and body ached for rest. When he entered the house, he walked with heavy steps up the staircase and into his room, unaware of Violet in his backyard.
But Adrian never reached his bed, instead he tumbled over on the wooden floor of his room. He groaned and helplessly closed his eyes, releasing a soft cry. He laid there, weak and helpless while the sky outside was turning a dark blue.
———
Violet woke up the next morning to see the morning frost clinging onto the edges of the large window behind her bed frame. Raising a hand to her eyes, she rubbed the dreariness and arose from her bed whilst pushing away her blankets.
After a short shower, she dressed herself in a gray t-shirt and red trousers. Her hair was tied in a bun with strands of hair framing the her face. She walked down the steps and into the kitchen, her routine settling her down for the day.
What was there to do anyway?
Violet scowled at the thought and marched over to the coffee machine to prepare herself a cup.
She was sick of everything. The steam from the boiling water of the machine sounded as she placed two slices of bread into the toaster, letting them turn to crisp. Violet opened the back door that led to the backyard and sighed as she inhaled the cold air.
Violet then went back into the kitchen and collected her steaming coffee and pieces of toast before she placed them on a plate and applied some jam on them.
Setting down her breakfast on the table of the patio, she sunk into her seat, the cushions comforting her while the morning sun was rising above her.
Violet sipped her coffee and ate her toast. When Violet finished her breakfast she walked back into the kitchen and washed her cup and plate, then set them aside in the drying rack.

Violet was checking the front door for any post when she noticed Adrian's car parked in the driveway.
He didn't leave yet?
By the time Violet would wake up, she would find herself home alone. It was her routine for the past four months, except on the weekends. Violet shrugged and reasoned that maybe Adrian was taking a day off.
She pounced around the house for the rest of the day cause she was bored. The time was nearing two and she thought about Adrian. She couldn't hear anything from upstairs. Why wasn't he up yet?
She felt a little concerned, even though she felt she didn't need to, but she was worried. He didn't even say anything to her or see her in a while.
Violet slowly walked into the living room and switched the tv on. She didn't want to face him anyway.
Violet swallowed at her irrational thoughts and shook her head. They would end up giving her a headache that would make her suffer. She watched the tv until she realized the rain pouring outside and listened to the soft thuds on the concrete of the footpath outside.
The glow of the tv screen was turned off and engulfed by darkness when Violet switched off the tv. She sighed and decided to walk upstairs to her room for a nap cause she was glued to the tv earlier and it made her feel sleepy.
She climbed the stairs toward her room and heard a ringing sound emerging in a muffled tone from one of the rooms other than hers.
She knew it had to be Adrian's phone as his room was the only one there. Violet gulped and turned to tiptoe silently to his door, wanting to make sure he was actually in the house. She didn't know how to approach him, what if he angered that she disturbed him?
The same ringtone was ringing loudly again and Violet frowned, why didn't he pick up the phone? Was he maybe resting and couldn't hear the loud noise.
Violet had never been inside his room and just the thought had her squirming uncomfortably, it was his private room not hers. Violet shook her head of thought and moved her hand to the door handle and pushed it open very slowly.
At first, she was faced with a white wall, with a double bed arranged in the middle. A desk hovered over a dust bin in the right corner of the room and a large window looked out into the backyard. The room was large, Violet thought as she stepped on the fluffy red carpet.
The ringing was rattling within a sports bag that was tossed upon the ground. Violet stepped forward and was about to inspect it when she saw Adrian.
Violet saw him lying faced down on the ground, still wearing his gym clothes. Violet gasped and rushed to his body and knelt down, carefully inching her trembling hands to nudge his shoulder, but received no answer.
———
Violet's POV
How did he end up here?
Was he alright? Did anything happen to him?
How long had he been here like this for?
I nudged his shoulder again, but I still got no answer. I started to worry and panic. Was he sick?
I turned around his body with anxious hands so that I could see his face. I patted his cheeks which were swollen red. His hair was ruffled and his eyes were closed. He wasn't even stirring by the force of my hand and I suddenly had a dreadful thought.
I briskly placed my two fingers on his neck and tried to feel a pulse. Thankfully there was one but it was very faint. My fingers retreated from his neck and I pushed myself up and rushed to the bathroom. I fumbled with the tap while it poured down the water noisily into the jug I held. My heartbeat was heard in my mind.
Once I had stumbled back into Adrian's room, I collected a palmful of water and splashed it onto Adrian's face. He finally gained consciousness and groaned.
My legs where stuck in their crouching position as he opened his eyes. My mind screamed of running but I was just set frozen to the spot. Adrian gasped and started gulping whilst his eyes fluttered.
I understood that he was maybe thirsty, so I looked for any drinking water he had in his room and luckily found his bottle within his sports bag.
I hurriedly grabbed Adrian's upper arm and shoulder to place him against the bed's edge.
Adrian was scrunching his face up, as if he were in pain. I unscrewed the bottle cap. Placing the opened rim of the bottle to his lips, I gently tipped it over, around a quarter of the bottle's water was drained down Adrian's throat.
I watched him carefully as he coughed whilst clutching his head weakly. His eyes were sunken and face was taken over with helplessness, he looked sick and tired. I reached my hand out cautiously to check the temperature of his neck.
When I did, Adrian whimpered and I felt the increased warmth of his skin. Without hesitation I decided to help him to his bed by placing both my arms on his shoulders and placing him on the left side of his bed. I tucked him in with his blanket.
I gulped whilst I thought of what to do next, I needed to get help. I sprinted out the room and down the stairs to the living room. Gathering myself from panting, I reached for the phone with trembling hands and dialed Mrs Hayes' number that she had told me of when I was staying at her house.
The phone buzzed for a few moments until I heard Mrs Hayes' voice. "Hey this is Dola Hayes, may I know who this is?" I opened and closed my mouth for a few seconds, debating whether I should talk to her. I was scared to speak, but this was an important emergency and it would be selfish of me to not help Adrian.
"M-Mrs Hayes." I gasped as tears sprung to my eyes. "Ad-Addie, he is s-sick a-and I-I found him u-unconscious." My voice was shaking in fear. There was silence on the other side until Mrs Hayes spoke in a shocked tone. "Violet is that you? What happened to Adrian?"
My heart rate was increasing as my chest felt heavier, I could barley manage to talk without feeling scared.
"H-he needs your help, I n-need help."

Shadow in the North

She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago.But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?
