《Violet》«Chapter 13 - Home.»

Violet's POV.

I glared at my black shoes as they glimmered. I didn't want to leave, no I never wanted to leave. But I had no choice, it was too late anyway. My hand clenched the suitcase handle so tightly that it hurt.

I didn't want to leave, I hated the idea of leaving with a man that I didn't like.

I couldn't adopt the baby and I couldn't manage a day of my life with any positive thoughts. My heart cracked thinking of my future. There is nothing for me to live for. I was so tempted to drop my suitcase and run away from this messed up world.

The thought of it made me feel even more depressed knowing that I wouldn't be able to survive on my own if I were to do that. But what difference did it make anyway? I was still stuck in my old shoes.

I shuddered when a gust of brutish wind blew at my hair that was luckily in a braid. My lip trembled and I felt my cheeks heat up. I knew I was going to cry but I didn't, I just felt sick and tired.

It was then when a warm hand fell on my hand that was clutching a suitcase. I peered up at him, gulping as I stared at his blue eyes that looked like sapphires.

"Ready to go?" He gave me a small smile, one that I knew the cause for. Mrs Hayes and Adrian still weren't talking to each other. Mr Hayes was determined to stay out of the fight and he did successfully so far.

I gave him a meek nod and walked towards his car, not looking back. The ground crunched under my feet as I walked, or more like dragged my feet.

Once I arrived at the car I quickly slipped into the back seat, pulling my suitcase with the help of a quiet Adrian. I noticed that he was thin compared to when I met him a few months back. His face looked tired and hands a little bony.

When Adrian was finished loading the rest of my suitcases, he hurried to the drivers seat and soon we were on the road. A tense silence between us.

I leaned my head on the side door, and watched the scene outside the window. I could feel my teeth clattering at the coldness of the car, the air conditioning was set on a freezing temperature. I rubbed my upper arm and clenched my eyes shut.

I stumbled into sleep.

———

I woke up with a start and found myself lying across the car seats and wrapped in a blanket. I got up on my elbows and peeked out of the windows. I was at a petrol station, for what it looked like. My light pink shirt was ruffled and hair was tangled everywhere in my sight.

Resting a few strands behind my ear, I yawned. I checked to see if Adrian was in the car and he was nowhere to be seen. My mind was gloomy and my tongue felt dehydrated. My hands inched toward the side door handle and tried to pry it open but it was locked.

For a moment I considered of somehow running from this petrol station and away from Adrian. But I couldn't, the doors were locked.

I sat in the car for around 10 minutes until I saw Adrian walk out of the shop. My face turned into distaste just at a glance at him.

Why couldn't he be gone for longer?

Adrian was soon at the driver's door and opened it with his keys. "Hey, you're awake now aren't you?" He asked, his face was sunken. Adrian hopped into his seat and turned to face me while strapping his seatbelt. "Here, I got this for you." He handed me a ice cream cone and smiled. I shook my head and shifted irregularly in my seat.

"Take it or don't, I'm not eating it." He curtly marked and placed the cone in my lap and turned back. "Put your seatbelt on." He added and started the engine. My hands quickly handled with the belt and inserted it in the buckle with a click.

The sound of windows rolling down were heard as the warm yellow light of the sun grazed the dried out farm lands outside the car as Adrian drove. Some wind graced Adrian's hair and until then, I didn't realize that I was staring at him.

Swallowing, I held the cold ice cream cone in my hand. It was vanilla flavored, my favorite, Adrian remembered. I opened the wrapper and put it aside, then I licked the side of the ice cream. My mouth swelled with a sweet taste, forgetting the urge of thirst.

I fluttered my eyelids cause of the wind entering and exiting the car. I smile as I ate my ice cream which had caramel dressing that tasted amazing. I looked back at Adrian, to see him completely oblivious to the fact that I was staring at him.

After a couple of hours, we finally reached our destination when a small estate came to view. Bushes surrounded the barred fences that bordered around the houses inside. I felt a tingling sensation within me like I was nervous. I did have to spend my time in the estate for the future.

The car came to a halt before a red bricked house. Adrian's house was a small, it was a double bedroomed house with a front door and window.

I unbuckled myself from the seatbelt when I realized that Adrian was already unloading my suitcases. I scurried forward to help but reluctantly cowered back when he shook his at me and motioned to get out of the car. So I did, then he locked his car and went ahead up the footpath that lead to his house. Two trees were placed on either sides of the lawn and flowers surrounded them.

I followed Adrian to his front door. Adrian opened the door and was walking in with my suitcases, whilst I just stood there, too scared to do anything. "You can come in, Violet." Adrian hung his head from behind the door and stated. My head shook on its own, not complying with his welcome.

Adrian's eyes were taken over with a sad emotion. "Please come in, I won't hurt you." He muttered lowly and walked out of sight into his house.

I gulped and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. Even though I didn't feel safe, I felt remorseful for not being able to feel comfortable or safe around with Adrian. I felt bad, but I couldn't help it, he did this to me.

I looked behind me again to where the car was parked and where the trees and flowers were planted. I should keep my negative thoughts aside for once and try to think positive thoughts. I placed my shaking legs over the doorstep.

Adrian was nowhere in my vision. I walked around and glanced at the white cupboard that stood in the entrance, a coat hanger and shoe space was added to the set. The walls were painted a nice beige color, and tiles were marble black.

Right opposite to the front door stood another door, which I thought was the kitchen or living room. I stepped closer to the door and opened the door to a living room. But it was small compared to Mr and Mrs Hayes' living room.

The brown colored couches sat against each other facing the TV that was held up by braces upon a marble fireplace. The floor was a walnut shade of wood. I hoped that I wouldn't stumble into Adrian while I ventured around his house. I thought to go on a little adventure without facing him.

His house was weirdly empty, no pictures or anything was present. I trailed my hand along the wall as I walked towards another door, this time it was at the corner of the room.

Once I opened the door, I came to realization that it was a kitchen. A four chaired dining table was placed in the middle of a range of counter tops. An empty vase sat upon the table. But there were no windows in the kitchen, just another door beside the fridge that I assumed led to the backyard.

Before I could grasp the handle of the door, a flatter of footsteps sounded behind me. I spun around in my spot and carefully watched as Adrian walked into the room, his hair completely messed up. "Sorry for before, umm, your stuff are upstairs in your room." I lowered my eyes and stared at the floor avoiding his eyes.

"You can go." Adrian rubbed his neck and tiredly sat down on one of the dining table chairs. I was nearing the door when he called out again. "It's the last door to the left."

I entered the entrance and looked at my left and saw stairs leading upstairs. I briskly clambered up the steps, eager to get to my room. When I reached my room, I noticed another two doors down the hallway. One right beside mine which I presumed was a bathroom. And I confirmed my assumption when I looked into it.

Like Adrian mentioned, my suitcases were in my room stacked on a cushioned seat that sat right before a big window and beside a double bed. I made my way to the bed and sat on it. The mattress was so soft that I sank into it. A giggle escaped my lips while my eyes scampered the room.

The bed was placed near the right wall and a large window took over the majority of the left wall. A dresser and a mirror were situated opposite the bed. The walls were painted a pastel color, making me feel comfortable. A sigh left my lips as I laid down on the mattress.

Maybe I would like spending time here, but not with Adrian.
