"Eva? Eva!" I saw at the corner of my eye Nate running into the kitchen.

"Nate?" Evangeline whispered and like that she was gone.

"Get the fucking Doctor here now!!!" I screamed trying to wake her up. She wasn't dead because I could hear her heart beat but it was slow.

"Move out of my way!" I turned to see a guy my age trying to push through the crowd. He had a coat on and I assumed due to his age he was a trainee.

"Move out of his way or so help me I'll kill you all." People stepped aside and he ran to us.

He set his bag on the table and took out a needle and some type of medication.

"Alpha, I'm going to need you to move back."

"No."

"I can't fix her if you're in the way." He stopped but didn't dare look me in the eye.

I threw the chair at the wall and walked out into the living room.

"How the hell did she even get into that fight? Nate I thought you told her to go into the basement?"

"I did! I don't know why she didn't listen. Dammit."

Deciding to speak up now rather than later when she's awake. How dare she disobey me.

"You need to control your sister more. She has no respect for authority."

Nathaniel tensed up and barely looked over his shoulder.

"What did you just say?"

"I'm sure you heard me."

"My sister has no respect for authority? Who are you to speak up on someone you don't know?"

"She is my mate!"

"Since when?! You've ignored, hurt, and indirectly rejected her! She is not your mate!" He said turning around.

This angered my wolf and I knew he was trying to surface to defend his mate.

"She is my mate and you will back down!"

Daniel whispered something into Nathaniel's ear and that made him flip over their coffee table.

"Really? Then why did YOUR guard let her leave? Was she or was she not under YOUR protection Alpha Braxton?"

I lost all anger remembering I did leave Max in charge. But he wouldn't disobey a direct order.

"Max!"

A couple seconds later Max walked in looking bored yet on edge.

"Why was Evangeline out in the fight? I gave you specific orders to watch over her. Yet, she managed to do exactly the opposite!"

"My apologies but she snuck out the back. I did not know they kept a secret door. By the time I found out she was gone it was too late."

"You will spend one week in the cells. Your carelessness is not to go unpunished."

"Yes alpha." He bowed his head and I nodded at some of our guards to take him.

He was cuffed and they started their journey back to our pack house.

"My guard may have played a part, but who keeps a secret door in their basement knowing perfectly well it could jeopardize the women and children?"

I looked between Nathaniel and his father who both looked angry.

"We do. If by some miracle they enter the pack house and find the basement the women and children will know and they can escape. We will not leave them alone only to be caught."

His father spoke yet it still didn't add up.

"Just control her next time."

I turned only to be tackled onto the floor. I pushed my attacker off only to see it was Nathaniel.

"She is not some animal! She does not need to be controlled. You will hold your tongue next time. And you will do good to remember she is MY sister, YOUR mate."

You could hear the venom in his voice when he spoke. Making sure to put a disapproving tone in the word mate. This angered my wolf.

I lunged toward Nathaniel and I was able to land a good one in his face. He kneed my stomach and flipped us. He got a few hits in only to be pulled off by Daniel.

"Enough! Our sister and your mate is injured and you both are acting like animals!"

"The only animal here is this family."

I didn't scream but I knew they heard me for they all stopped talking. I got up to my feet and wiped the blood off my lip.

"What kind of father hides his children? Hides the fact that they are wolves! A coward! You hid Nathaniel from his tittle, as well as the other two idiots and look what happened! Evangeline has been hurt not once, but twice! And for what reason!?"

"Because of me Alpha.." We all turned to see a mother carrying a baby, and the little girl Evangeline had during the fight.

"What do you mean?" Nathaniel asked.

"When we were told to get inside I went to get Emily from the trees. We were playing hide n seek and I couldn't find her in time. The guards were pushing us all inside and when your guard threw Evangeline inside I knew she could help. She asked if we were all ok but all I could do was cry. When I told her I would help her find Emily she just looked at me. Then it's like something snapped and she said no that I needed to be here for my baby and that she could get Emily herself."

It was silent for awhile as we all just stared at her.

"She promised to bring our mates, brothers, sons, and fathers back as well. We helped her move the fridge and she changed. My mate told me what your mate did and I came to say thank you. I'm only sorry that she got hurt. I will take any punishment you desire."

I was about to speak but Nathaniel spoke before me.

"No punishment will be given to you. I understand why Eva would do that for your family. You have nothing to be sorry about."

"Eba?" Emily said looking around.

"Eba!!" She was going to start crying but Nathaniel crouched down and picked her up.

"Eva is fine. You can see her when she gets better ok?"

"Otay"

I watched as he put her down and she ran to her father.

"You all are excused without punishment. Eva had a reason for what she did and it makes sense to me now."

They all bowed their heads and left.

"Care to explain why she was being careless?" They all turned to me but I didn't care I wanted answers as to why she would risk her life so recklessly.

"Our mother died trying to protect Eva from rogues. Eva saw that women and it brought her to think of our family. My father has never been the best father. He disclosed himself from us, rarely visited and he couldn't stand to look at Eva because it reminded him of our mother. He was absent in our lives but he tried and for that we can not be mad at him. Eva didn't want that to happen to her family if that mother died. She couldn't bare the thought of thinking it was her fault so she went alone. But I don't expect you to know that."

"Meaning?"

"You've never been a mate to her. I hear all these stories about you. The ruthless, dangerous, and heartless Alpha. You're heartless alright but you're scared to love. What is it about Mates that bug you? Maybe because your father lost you mother and he turned weak just like my father did? Is that it?"

"You will NOT speak of my mother! You have no right!"

"You're right I don't. But you think she would be proud of the way you treat your mate? I may have only been alpha for a couple of hours and a wolf for a couple of days but doesn't the Moon goddess put mates together for a reason? Yet you fight against them every time. I'm all for mates but I hate that she is paired up with the likes of you!"

I ran towards him and wrapped my hand around his throat.

"If I knew being her mate would cause me this much trouble I would've traded her."

"Is that true?" I turned around and there she was. Leaning against the wall for support. There was still blood on her but she was covered in bandages.

"Would you trade me?" I was caught up in her speaking that Nathaniel punched me and when I fell he got on top to punch me again but Evangeline stopped him.

"Stop! Stop it!" Just hearing her put my wolf at ease.

"Nate... Please. Don't." Her voice started to crack as if she was going to cry.

He got off of me and went to go touch her but she put her hand up.

"Do you really not like us being mates? Do you really disapprove this much?" His eyes softened I knew he regretted his words.

"Eva... That's... That's not what I meant. I just... With him? Why? Out of everyone why him?"

"I don't know.. But I would never think you could want me to be unhappy. You may not like him but he isn't your mate. You're suppose to be there for me..."

"Eva..."

She shook her head at.

"Don't... You knew what having a mate means to me."

She walked passed him and started walking my way. I stood up so that she was looking up at me.

"Do you really mean that?"

I just stared at her and didn't say anything. After awhile she spoke.

"I see... All my life all I wanted was to be loved. To know someone out there was my other half. So To find out that I'm this big dog, that my father and brothers are leaders of a group of amazing people, and that there's someone out there that's meant specifically for me. I couldn't be any happy. But I find out that my mate doesn't want me, and would trade me just like that when I would do anything and everything for him. I guess that's the price of love. You're willing to cross oceans and seas for someone who wouldn't even walk through a lake for you."

She placed her hand on my cheek. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the tingles but I knew this was wrong. So I moved my face away from her hand. Tears formed in her eyes and she lowered her hand and placed it at her side.

"I just want you happy Braxton. So if this is what I have to do to make sure your happy then so be it. I will always love you even if you didn't love me." A tear ran down her face and she looked at her father.

"Get the witch to come by next week. I need her to preform a spell I read about in a book in the pack library. It's a mate separation spell."

"Evangeline those are very dangerous." And he wasn't wrong. It could kill her.

"Dangerous how?" Nathaniel asked.

"Evangeline is the one who wants the separation. The separation will break her wolf more than it will break Braxton's. He will be able to choose a mate in 72 hours and it will be like having the same affect of a regular mate. But Evangeline will not be able to. She will loose all rights to a mate. Even if someone were to claim her it would be like a normal relationship. But that's if she survives. Usually the one who ask for the spell will die."

"Eva you can't do this you'll die!" Nate screamed getting angry.

I didn't know how to feel. This is what I wanted, and I didn't ask her to ask for the spell. So there is nothing I could do.

"I died the moment he didn't say he loved me back....." No one said anything and I could do was look out the window.

"Danny?"

"Yes Eva?"

"Can you... Can I... Can I sleep with you tonight?....." Tears ran down her face and it almost broke my heart. Almost.

Daniel looked towards what I'm guessing what his mate and Evangeline saw this.

"Oh.. Right. I forgot you found your mate. It's ok. You guys get to know each other more. I'll just see you all tomorrow in the morning."

"Eva... "

"No really. It's fine. Have fun. But dad can you... Can you carry me to my room? It hurts to walk."

"Sure sweetie."

Daniel spoke again,

"Eva really. Destiny and I can talk any other day."

"No it's fine. I need to be alone anyways. Have fun you too."

He picked her up bridal style and started walking up the stairs. She winced but didn't say anything. Before she was gone out of view she looked at me. And I saw her whole face covered in tears and I could feel her wolf whimpering.

"Alpha Braxton thank you for your help today. If you ever need my assistance don't hesitate to call But I want you off my territory right now."

I nodded my head at nathaniel and mind linked the rest of my pack to start heading towards our pack.

I took one last look at the stairs and headed out to the door. I looked up at the stars and it always reminded me of my mother.

"Shift!" We all shifted and I let out a long regretful howl. But I will go through with this spell. Whether I want too or not.
