《17》34. Execution

Behind the bars of Area 51 is a place I never pictured myself at, but here I am with Rami and Idris. The three of us are kept in a tiny prison cell that is nearly not big enough for all of us to fit. The bars have the same electric security, so if anyone touches then, we get an excruciating shock. In addition, the hunters contributed a little poison for Idris: there are cardinal, stinky liquid on the perimeter of the cell, which is weakening our vampire. As for the werewolf, once again, he is separated from me. I don't know where they took him. If I was a werewolf, I'm pretty sure I would have shifted, all hell would break loose and this place would be a giant mess. But I'm only human and I can only do so much.
Right in front of us is the soldier with a badge. General Roman introduced himself to us the second we were put behind the bars. Two other soldiers are behind him, along with two hunters. All men are grinning down at us as if we are caged animals on a zoo.
"You sure the vampire isn't going to escape?" General Roman asked Dean, the hunter. The brunette, muscular man nodded with confidence, making the blonde, Air Force soldier grin wider. "Good. I'd like to talk to them in private." As the other men exited the room, I glared at the hunters while the curly haired boy next to me flipped them off. My eyes then focused on the tall man standing three inches from the bars. "I find it amazing how big of a mess one girl can make. From what I've heard, you were the one who got in the way of Experiment 17. You deliberately let the wolf out of our reach and take him for yourself. Now, look at all the things you've ruined, all the people whose lives you've ruined just because you wanted the wolf for yourself." General Roman's eyes darted to Rami with something disguised as sympathy. "You could have left this boy alone with this family, his education, yet you dragged him to this mess with you."
"Hey man," Rami brushed a hand on my shoulder. "don't be jealous that she didn't involve you in our cool adventure."
Idris crack a smile while I suppressed mine. "If only you just stayed out of it. If you'd let us do our job. None of you would be here right now."
I laughed bitterly. "Your job? Doing what, exactly? Spending unnecessary amount of money making unnecessary weapons? For what? Wars? For power?" I am so disgusted. These people are so selfish and greedy.
The General shrugs his shoulders. "We have to do what is needed to survive."
"You know what else is needed to survive? A bag over your head."
I gave Rami a look that begged him to stop talking, as the man look as if he's close to killing him with that comment. Though, the soldier resisted any sort of action. "I will have a lot of fun with your execution, boy. The two of you." I clenched my fist as he eyed me and Rami back and forth with that sick smile. "As for the other," He shuffled to the other end of the cell where Idris sits on the floor. The vampire held his head high as they stared at one another. "We have other plans for you. You will be useful to us." Of course, they would weaponize Idris just like Lysander. To the government, every living thing is nothing but their pawns, whether that be animals, supernaturals, or even their own kind. They don't give a shit as long as they get what they want. "But for tonight, I will leave you to yourselves. To say your last words to each other." General Roman saluted us before strolling out of the small prison room. As he left, two soldiers entered. One sat by the door and the other sat beside the cell. The guards.

"I never thought my last moments in life is being in Area 51's jail with Drew and a vampire." Rami sighs, resting his back against the wall. "But you know, it's not too bad. I broke in Area 51. I met some creepy ass vampires. I fought some hunters. I got to go on a road trip with a friend and a grumpy werewolf who is now evil. I never got to see the world's oldest sloth, but I did get to spend some quality time with the world's oldest mosquito."
"I'm sorry." Tears steamed down my face before I realized. "I'm sorry for ruining your life. I shouldn't have dragged you into this mess. None of this would have happened if it wasn't for me." I cried quietly. The General is right. Everything is my fault and now not only am I about to die, but Rami as well.
"Drew. I have to be honest, there were a few times when I wished we were in better situations, but never did I ever regret coming with you. Even tonight. I do wish all of us are in a bar partying and shit - by the way, can you get drunk?"
Idris raised a brow before chuckling. "Yes. Easier than you'd expect."
"That's right. Your body, for some reason, is quick on reacting to alcohol." Rami smirked. "When I'm dead, I'll buy you a drink."
Well, that's one way to deal with death.

The night goes on, Idris had fallen asleep with his head on Rami's lap, too weak to stay awake. I tried to think of a way to escape but nothing is coming to me. It's too painful to touch the bars and the two giant soldiers guarding us will be too hard to fight with the lack our strength and energy. There is nothing around us that can be used for escape either. This room only has the cell. It has no windows or holes for air conditioner, so we are suffering in heat and little oxygen.
"What do you think will happen to us, when we die?" Rami questioned, his fingers unconsciously running through Idris' hair. My heart hurts for them. I know they've gotten close. I don't know exactly what goes on between them, but I see the way they are and I ruined what they could have had in the future. Rami, he's strong. The two of us are probably shitting ourselves because we're going to die soon but he is barely expressing fear from death right now, unlike me who was sobbing just moments ago. "Honestly, I'm probably going to hell. I've been sinning my whole life."
"You look very proud of that."
"Why shouldn't I be?" Rami grinned. "Anyway, who do you think is down there? I can't think of anyone who hasn't sinned."
"Hmm. There's Lucifer, Dean and Sam Winchester at some point, Nico di Angelo, Hades..."
"Sounds like a party." The boy brushed his curls away of his face. "I'll bring the chips and tequila."
The soldier closest to us stared at us like we're crazy. "You're talking about partying in hell? When you're about to die?"
"Yeah and you're not invited."
The man rolled his eyes at us before scooting his chair closer to the other soldier to engage in a conversation. Rami and I laughed quietly to ourselves before letting comfortable silence take over. I guess this is really how we're going to end this. Experiment 17 was a success. I fail to become a cool scientist. I will not be able to attend my best friend's wedding. I failed at everything.

"Idris." Rami's alerted whisper pulled me out of my depressing thoughts. Rami is cupping the vampire's face, while his muscles are tensed up. His breathing paused, but he still has a heartbeat. I checked his pulse from his cold wrist, it's there but barely.
The vampire's eyelids suddenly opened, revealing not crimson eyes, but pitch black. Every thing is black: iris, pupil, and sclera. Rami and I froze, not knowing what to do about it. Idris stayed in that state for a few seconds, then he shut his eyelids. When they opened again, they were back to red. Idris sat up and began breathing heavily, running his shaky hands over his pale face.
"What's wrong? What happened?" I asked worriedly.
The vampire shook his head, unable to speak. His eyes are wide open, filled with horror. Rami watched him for a moment before realizing what just happened. "You just had a vision, didn't you?" Idris did not move a muscle. He only stared into space. "What did you see?" Idris put his face behind his knees, clearly shaken up from a vision.
"Excuse me!" I screamed at the soldiers, who are both on their phones. "Can you please get some water? Please?" Thankfully, the soldier near the door listened and returned quickly with a plastic cup of water. I reached a hand between the bars and hissed in pain at the electricity hitting me, but I resisted to get the water. Some of it spilled as my hand shook from the shock, but Idris chugged down the remaining. Rami had a hand over Idris' back, circling smoothly for comfort. "It's okay, Idris." I sigh, putting my hand over his arm for a second before cowering in the corner of the cell.

None of us slept until the morning. Rami and I were pulled out of the cell in the middle of the day. First, we were taken to a room that looks like an interrogation room. Our hands are cuffed on the table and across from us is General Roman.
"We need to have a conversation before your...passing." The sick smile made my blood boil. "First, I am reminding you that we are doing this execution because you have violated our rules. We cannot risk any exposure of any information of this base, and so we cannot let you go." I could even feel Rami's anger, just by sitting next to him. "And now, I must ask you. How did you break in our base? Yes, the vampire played a role in bringing my soldiers down. However, our security is not as easy to defeat. You couldn't have possibly get in our system yourselves, so there has to be another. Who is the person that helped you that blocked our signals? A hacker, perhaps? A name. That's all I ask."
Eva. He's asking for Eva. There is no way in hell I'm going to bring her into this. No way the government is going to get their filthy hands on her. I'm going to die, anyway. They can't do anything to me.
"We could, of course, just get all the information easily by typing up a few names." The General stated, pacing back and forth the room. "But what's there to say that same hacker hadn't already messed with our system?"
"Well, too bad so sad." Rami pouted sarcastically. "A little advice for ya. You shouldn't kill anyone who outsmarts you because you get butt-hurt."
The General smiled and stepped towards Rami, stopping an inch from him. Then, he struck a punch at Rami's face before squishing his cheeks with one hand. "You're going first."
He stormed out of the room, leaving us there. Another man walked in, and it only made me even more angry. White hair, oversize lab coat and fake smile. "Good to see you again, children."
"Tarver." I spat, wanting to break free from the cuffs so I can give him a good punch in the face. No doubt, he is the one who worked on Lysander. He was never fond of the werewolf to begin with.
"Andromeda." The doctor sat across from me. "You've been a troublesome lady. Stealing an experiment. Breaking in Area 51. You know, we were still working with the dog when you arrived. We still had to work on that abnormal brain of it, until it snapped. Exploded and broke free, as if it sensed something. I thought it looked familiar, the way the wolf ran around like a pet after its owner. It was looking for you because it sensed you, just like the first time he found you. But it doesn't matter now. My team and I finally finished the experiment and he is exactly what we created him to be. No emotion. No thoughts. A mere object for us to use." The man leaned over the table to give us a closer look. "Such a shame to let some intelligence come to waste."
"I only have two words for you." I leaned my back on the chair calmly. "Fuck you."

The time has come. Afternoon. Rami and I are out in the desert field. I'm getting what I deserve: my own life to join the others I failed to save. The General decided to have the honor to kill us himself with a shiny gun. Soldiers and hunters are surrounding us, along with Idris who is being held by a soldier. Idris is forced to watch. The poison that the hunters gave is still weakening him so he cannot move to save us even if he wanted to. But his eyes. He wasn't crying, but he looked absolutely terrified. Another familiar face is Uriel. He really couldn't care less about me and Rami. He's really just a hunter's pet.
Rami is up first, just as promised by the General. He is kneeling on the ground with hands tied behind him. His eyes scanned the crowd, lingering on Uriel and the hunters for a few seconds. They darkened before his gaze softened towards me. He gave me one a grin that had me breaking down in hysterical sobs. Then, he looked at Idris and tears pooled on those eyes. The two stared at each other, silently exchanging emotions, thoughts, before a smile appeared on his lips.
"Any last words?"
General Roman had a finger by the trigger of his gun, ready to shoot at any moment.
Rami held his head high as he smiled. "Not today, asshole."
