《The Pole Dancer》Crossed the Line

Julian walked us in and I couldn't help looking around. I've never been inside such a beautiful house before. Remembering mine and Ellen's conversation, she wanted to explain the reason why they are so rich but Sam stopped us and she forgot. Something about the luxurious interior around me filled me with anxiety but I ignored the feeling, intending to get to it later.

"Okay I'm gonna get to cleaning." Ellen broke the silence. I was so uncomfortable that if Julian wasn't next to us I'd beg her not to leave me alone, and clean with her. But unfortunately he could hear everything.

"If you need anything I'll be around with Lana." He gave her one of his charming smiles causing her to suddenly get all excited and confused at the same time. I rolled my eyes at her dumb facial expression but neither of them saw it.

As she took a step to leave I felt like reaching out with an invisible hand and stop her from going. Something about Julian felt wrong. He seems cunning. Shifting his gaze to me he motioned for me to enter the room in front of us. I assumed it's one out of, probably, five living rooms. With its high ceilings and golden details on the furniture it looked old fashioned yet very stylish at the same time.

"We can stay here until the maid prepares the outside for us." Not sure what he planned outside, I just nodded.

"It's a beautiful house." I commented while turning my head around. We both took a seat and I noticed he was studying me.

"Yes, we all live here." He said referring to his family.

"Oh you must all be really close then." No, it doesn't mean that they are close just because they live together, but I said it to hear his response.

"Not really. Especially not Adrian." And that's what I was curious to find out. "That's why I used the opportunity to meet you while he is away."

"Why were you so interested in meeting me?" I asked the question I thought I wouldn't have the opportunity to ask directly. But since he was open I could be too.

"Honestly, I want to get close to him and build a relationship. But he is so cold with me." He put on a sad face but for some reason I didn't buy it. He seemed fishy.

We were interrupted by the maid who needed Julian for something so he left me alone for a bit. Using the opportunity, I studied the room around me paying attention to every detail. Part of me was amazed that Adrian lives in such a nice house but at the same time I felt a lump in my chest. I don't belong in this world.

Suddenly Ellen passed through the room in order to clean the one next to it. I stopped her when I saw her, whispering.

"How are they so rich?" I got up and asked quickly before Julian came back.

"They own a diamond mine. Sorry, I forgot to mention. Thought Adrian would have told you." She whispered back and I nodded letting her continue.

Sitting back down and waiting for Julian, I let the initial shock pass through me. His family owns a diamond mine! They must make millions. And considering where they live it must be true. It upsets me that Adrian didn't tell me himself and I had to find out like this. What if he is keeping me away because he doesn't want anything serious? Maybe he only wants sex and knows that I'm too cheap to fit in this kind of life.

Eventually Julian returned and told me that we could move to the garden. We sat on the terrace with shade and drank lemonade. He offered me a fruit salad but I refused.

"How do you like it out here? I assume Adrian didn't bring you before." He concluded and I shook my head.

"No he didn't. We haven't known each other that long. In fact I don't think he'd be really happy knowing that I'm here." I confessed which probably wasn't the best idea as Julian isn't to be trusted. But maybe by telling him that I don't want Adrian to know he will make sure not to mention it.

"So why did you accept my invitation then?" I saw this question coming. He watched me intently.

"I want to know more about him and his life. I didn't even know he was rich." I pointed out looking around the garden. Since I arrived I couldn't stop admiring the beautiful surroundings. The only reason I hinted that Adrian is closed with me is because he admitted that he is closed with him too.

"And how does that make you feel?" Another question. This guy really is inquisitive.

"That he didn't tell me yet or that he is rich?" Not sure what he meant, I asked.

"Both." Clearly he wants to know everything.

"We met recently so he doesn't know everything about me either." I lied. He knows pretty much everything that there is to know about me, but I know a little about him and it bothers me. "As for being rich, it makes me uncomfortable. I don't belong in this world to tell you the truth."

When I said the last sentence he asked why and we got to the topic about my life. He wanted to know my life story and I briefly explained how I spent my childhood in an orphanage. The manner in which he commented about things I told him made it seem that somehow he knew them already. But I shook the thought away.

Ellen eventually finished cleaning and joined us after which we had lunch. I had some regrets for going there and I was afraid that someone else from his family might come, making me more uncomfortable. But no one did. It was just the three of us and the maid.

I spent the evening watching television and thinking about today. I fear that Adrian might find out that I went to his house and that he'll be angry. I crossed the line.

In the morning Ms Heilig was sitting at her desk and I felt the urge to ask her for advice. Unsure whether today she will be helpful, I spoke.

"Ms Heilig?" I called her name while she read her book. Not raising her gaze, she lifted an eyebrow motioning for me to continue. "May I ask you for advice about the same man we spoke about?" I specified hoping it will make her more open.

"Yes. Go on." Despite the cold manner in which she replied, I felt a sense of relief that she was willing to talk.

"I did everything like you told me and things are fine. However he still doesn't talk about himself. This week he is out of town and my friend is friends with his brother. He invited us over for lunch in order to meet me. I'm not sure that he will be okay with the fact that I went to his house before he took me himself and met his brother before he introduced us." I tried to be as brief as possible and didn't bother explaining that Ellen cleans their house. I simply referred to her as Julian's friend.

"I don't know the man to predict what he will say, and it all depends on how he will react. But if it will make him mad as you mentioned, then insist on the fact that it was his brother who initiated everything and you felt rude to refuse." Her advice was simple and something I already knew but needed to hear it from someone else. I really feel guilty for putting my nose into it all and going there instead of waiting for him to be ready. The problem isn't the information which I don't know but the fact that he isn't sharing it. And I see that now.

"You are right. Thank you." Agreeing, I showed gratitude to which she just nodded.

"Okay. Back to work now." And the cold bitch was back.

After a couple of hours of working I had my break. I went to the usual coffee shop, ordered a latte and checked my phone. Suddenly there was an Instagram follow request which I opened and saw a familiar name.

Julian O'Donnell.
