《The Pole Dancer》Little Bunny

I had a sleepless night because my thoughts were racing, all of them being about Adrian. I feel like I'm becoming infatuated by him. He is constantly on my mind and I'm becoming more and more excited to see him. The only thing is that I don't want to expect anything because he could easily disappoint me. He is somewhat mysterious, I don't know what he wants from me, if he even wants anything.

I managed to fall asleep towards the morning, waking up late for work. I dressed quickly and managed to get there just in time because I skipped breakfast. As usual, Ms Heilig stayed quiet while I was counting minutes to go home. Lucky for me, lots of customers came to rent or return a book so it kept me busy.

When my break time arrived, I went to that coffee shop as usual. I always ask Ms Heilig if she would want something but she replies negatively each time. I didn't stay there for long but I love the opportunity to be on my phone. As soon as I got back however, she asked me to assist a customer.

"There is a guy searching for a book. Go see if he needs any help, I'm sorting these papers at the moment." She ordered as usual. Obviously I have to do what she asks me to, but saying 'could you please' wouldn't hurt her. I just nodded and went into the room where all the books are.

"Good afternoon, do you need any..." I stopped short once I saw a familiar figure facing away towards the shelf packed with fantasy novels. Adrian.

"Lana?" He turned once he heard me, recognising my voice. I like the way he says my name. "You work here?" He was surprised, I could read it on his face. For once there was an expression other than that flat serious one which he usually has.

"Yes but don't mention you know what..." I lowered my voice so Ms Heilig wouldn't hear. A part of me panicked when I saw him because I don't want him to mention something about the strip club in front of her.

"I understand." The serious expression was back. Before I could ask again if he needed help, he picked a novel and I lead him to my desk so I could fill in the details.

"Are you a member already?" I asked and he nodded. I sat down in my chair while he stood up. I tried hard not to start scanning his body.

"Adrian O'Donnell." He said his full name so I could find him in our data base. My hands shook a little so I made some mistakes while typing. He made me nervous, as always. Once I found him I could see that he rented his last book long time ago.

"There you go." I handed him his book of choice once I copied all the details from it, and stamped the paper inside with the date of expected return.

"Till when are you working?" He asked, his tone flat. His question stunned me a little so I took a bit to reply.

"I have another three hours, why?" I looked up at him as he stood in front of my desk.

"Nevermind." It sounded as though he planned something but cancelled it once he saw I'm busy. He could at least tell me what...

"It's her break time, you can take her out for a bit." I almost choked on my own spit when Ms Heilig spoke. I can't believe my own ears that she actually lied to help me. She seems like the type who wouldn't give me a break even if I needed to go to a hospital.

"Umm..." Was all I managed to let out when Adrian shifted his gaze from her to me.

"Let's go." He said motioning for me to come. "Thank you Ms." He told Ms Heilig.

I got up from my chair and walked behind him. I nodded at her thankfully to which she smiled. I think it's the first time I've seen her smile. It was unexpected and nice of her what she did so I'll make sure not to overstay. However, I'm not even certain that he intended to take me anywhere. I suggested for us to go to that coffee shop as it was the only place near by.

"It's ironic." He remarked once we got our order and sat down. I raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"What is?" I asked, still processing the fact that I'm currently sitting with the most handsome man I've ever met. If only he smiled a little bit more...

"You working in a library and being a pole dancer at the same time." I appreciated that he corrected himself and didn't use the word 'stripper'. I don't have anything against women who call themselves strippers, I just personally don't like it very much. It makes me feel more dirty than I actually am.

"Well the bills won't pay themselves." I shrugged. Like everyone else who knew about me having these two jobs, he was amazed. It seems like a paradox, making me appear like an eccentric. When in reality I am not, I just began working in the library because the opportunity came up. As for the pole dancing I've always wanted it.

"What do your parents think about your profession?" Is he getting to know me?

"They're dead." I replied, his expression remained the same. "Change the subject please." I don't like talking about them.

"You're an interesting girl." He was still completely serious, but I couldn't help and laugh. There isn't anyone more boring than me. I only eat, work and sleep, and the only friends I have are people from work. I also barely go anywhere. Not to mention my non existent love and sex life. But I won't tell him that.

"Interesting isn't the word I'd use to describe myself." Was all I replied not wanting to sound too insecure. "Anyway, half an hour passed and it's time for me to go back." I took out my wallet to pay but he didn't let me. He said that he would pay, and there was certain dominance in his voice which caused me to just nod and thank him.

He walked me back to the library, then left. I showed Ms Heilig my appreciation for what she did, but she was back to her strict self and just shrugged it off. Perhaps underneath she is a kind person.

"Looking for someone?" Tom approached me while I stood by the bar, scanning the whole club with my eyes.

"Oh...no..." I jumped a little as I was lost in my thoughts.

"You seem a little absent." He referred to how lost and confused I look, even while talking with him. Giving him a reassuring smile, I shook my head.

"It's been a tough day at the library and I have that feeling like I forgot to do something. Sorry." I lied. What I was really doing is searching for Adrian. My shift was almost over and he didn't show up all night.

Before Tom could say another word, I got on the stage to dance to the last few songs.

Walking home, I blamed myself for feeling disappointed that he didn't come. At the end of the day, I don't know what I'm expecting. He surely won't spend every evening at a strip club, and that is all I am to him - a stripper. Not that he is something more to me, but based on the disappointment I'm feeling, clearly I expected something. And having expectations from someone out of your league isn't good. Especially not if they're almost twice your age.

I stood in front of my building, searching for the keys to enter. I cussed realising they are somewhere at the bottom. Putting my bag on the floor and squatting, I felt like to flip it upside down to find them easier. With the light of my phone I managed to find them. Finally.

"Little one..." A familiar voice came from behind me as I unlocked the building door. Adrian's voice.

"Um, what are you doing here?" I turned to face him, my heartbeat speeding up.

"I didn't get my lap dance tonight." He might've been trying to be playful here, but his serious expression doesn't help.

"Well you didn't come." I stated the obvious. "Have a good night." I stepped inside, wondering how he knows where I live.

"Stop!" He ordered and I couldn't help but freeze. "If I ask for something you do your best to provide it, little girl. Understood?" Is he lecturing me? Nonetheless he managed to dominate me. It might be because of my insecure nature or it might be because he intimidates me.

"Yes." I should've told him off and went to sleep, but instead I found myself obeying him. I looked him in the eye with an expression of a scared puppy.

"It's 'yes sir'." He corrected me again. Without another word, he followed me inside and we went to my apartment together.

Wishing it was a fancier place, I felt slightly ashamed at how modest and old it is. He took a good look around while taking the liberty of sitting down on the sofa without me telling him to.

"Looks cozy." He remarked and I smiled nervously. Apart from the state of my house, him being being here makes me anxious.

"What do you want from me? I mean even other men like lap dances, but they don't come to my house." I had to ask. The problem is that he does all these little things and shows interest, but it's all unclear. And the more mysterious he is, the more I think. And the more I think, the more he gets into my head.

"Fair enough." He paused. "I'm not the type of guy who goes to strip clubs. Girls there are beautiful, but they all seduce in a dominant way, each one like a lioness."

"So what about me?" I wanted him to continue explaining, taking a seat on the armchair.

"You seem innocent, like a little bunny. You're a sex toy type of girl..." There was some amusement in his voice while telling me this. Despite being aware that he just sexualised me, I got excited. "...and that is my type."
