Chapter 50

Angelina slumped on her seat, chuckling lightly at her and Bell's conversation. She shook her head amusingly, her friend would never change.

Foodie Bell :

I think I found my dream man.

Angelina rolled her eyes dramatically, she could practically imagine Bell, squealing excitedly.

Crazy bestie :

Awwww, really?.

Foodie Bell :

Yuppie.

Crazy bestie :

Foodie Bell :

So... I kinda met him on a dating site.

Well... We started talking two months ago and kinda like each other.

"Brownie!" Angelina internally groaned hearing Sabrina's shrill voice. The devil God planted with her. Angelina quickly glanced at her phone sullenly, didn't want to miss the gist but saw Bell's chat and smiled before responding.

Foodie Bell :

I don't know why you are still hiding when your husband is the boss.

Crazy bestie :

It's good to know who the real people are, not the sneaky ones. Work call…. Imma off na.

Angelina enjoyed her work, she'd made some casual friends while some were judgemental but she didn't care. Nathaniel had severely proposed he should raise her to his assistant but she declined it, not wanting people to think she climbed her way up. She wanted to work for it, for her recognition, fame and she was already building it except for the snaky Sabrina. The devil's incarnate.

"Get me the usual coffee" Sabrina ordered haughtily, her eyes on the screen, typing.

Angelina turned to bring Sabrina her coffee when Dave - the guy next to Sabrina gave her a puppy face, "Me too".

Then everyone at the department chorused, "me too".

Angelina nodded her head, "I'll be back in a jiffy" She smiled, getting to her daily work. That was her first routine in the morning. Whenever she arrived, she got her colleagues their usual coffee or tea then distributed them.

It was a good thing to stay on a low-key, low level.

Angelina remembered the shocked face of James - her husband's pa when he saw her with the coffee as he was addressing her department. She smiled politely at him, shaking her head when she noticed him pale and was coming to her, she quickly bowed her head, greeting him in a high-pitched voice.

She didn't want anyone to know yet maybe later, she wanted to earn respect for herself not because of her husband. She wanted her fame, not because of her husband.

Angelina came back with the coffee and gave each of them their order before going to her seat humming lightly. She opened her laptop to start the report she left yesterday.

It had been three months, she'd been working here and she'd build herself a position. After the first month, she was promoted to Sabrina's assistant which made Sabrina upset and others.

How could a new person be promoted so easily, no one understood even she- Angelina didn't know and she asked her husband about it who claimed ignorance about it.

Angelina worked her ass off, she was promoted for her hand working, efficiency and smartness. Angelina remembered when she was given her first salary, she had a tear of joy in her as she contacted the woman across the company about the shop.

Angelina rented a small Cafe shop across the road where she hired someone to manage it as she worked in the office and took orders for her colleagues to flourish her business.

Their comments about the coffee and good reviews were enough to push her through.

Used one stone to kill two birds...

Nathaniel wanted to help her but she declined, she would do it by herself and could do it. The salary she was earning monthly was more than enough with her wages as a delivery lady at the Cafe shop. She wanted to build a small restaurant for her father.

It was her father's dream to have his own restaurant. She wanted to make it come true. No matter what she did for her father, it couldn't be worth what the man had done in her life. so she wanted her father to be with her and be proud of her. She couldn't go back to her country because her life was here now, she was married. She needed her father close so she decided to build him a restaurant making his dream true.

Nathaniel helped her to secure land in a remote area due to his connection and he supported her with everything where the construction had commenced.

Both Angelina and Nathaniel haven't talked to each other after departing from home, Nathaniel was busy with conference meetings, and when it was time for him to have lunch business with one of his partners when he intentionally walked past Angelina department.

He held her from behind, turning her to face him as he stole a kiss from her which shocked her. He pulled her close to him, "I miss you" he mumbled, finding solace in her warmth. "I feel like leaving everything and running to you" His mouth was over hers and he kissed her like his life depended on it.

He couldn't concentrate, his mind wandered to her well-being now and then, he couldn't just wait to get home. Or show her off but Angelina did not want it.

They pulled away from each other as they heard voices coming from the hall, "I'll meet you home" Angelina said softly, missing his body heat already.

Angelina sighed, her shoulders slumped, she walked toward Zoe who was already munching her lunch, she waved and then sat across from her.

"What happened to your face?" Zoe said with her mouth full.

Angelina touched her cheeks concerned, "what happened to it?" she asked.

"It's gloomy kinda you are missing your best part" Zoe waved her hand in the air.

"Oh, I don't know," she responded in a small voice. Her heart yearned to be with him, her soul called for him. Hours used in the office seemed to drag and made it painstakingly irritating.

Angelina opened her can to drink her soft drink when she was interrupted, "hey brownie!" Sabrina walked her way toward her.

She gulped and turned her body to her, "When you are done, I've dropped files that need to be checked" Sabrina glared at her, shaking her head before huffing away.

Angelina groaned internally, she liked her work but the pain in her ass was Sabrina who watched her like a hawk who didn't want to be away from her claw.

"I don't know why you let her walk over you anyhow" Zoe voiced out, scowling at Sabrina's back in hatred. She didn't understand why Sabrina picked on the sweet Angelina like a leach.

" Angelina feigned innocence.

"Don't give me that face!" Zoe chided, slamming her hand on the table, " even you allow that stinky receptionist to walk over you as if you aren't above her!".

"Would it be weird if I tell you that I like it" Angelina smiled, sipping her drink attentively.

"What?!" Zoe shook her head and huffed, "What a weirdo" she muttered but Angelina heard and chuckled lightly.

"We don't use evil to fight evil," Angelina stated absent-mindedly.

"But sometimes evil can fight evil," Zoe argued. "Well... Whatever" she waved her hand dismissively, "... Because I know there's nothing I could say that can enter that thick skull of yours" she muttered.,"And you're pretty strong-headed".

"Inherited that from papa" she responded, having it in the back of her mind to call her father and find a way to coax him to stay here permanently with her.

"Whatever" Zoe sighed, throwing leftovers in the trash bin as she stretched her limbs.

"Meet you after work" Angelina smiled, holding her phone to her ear.

"Love," His voice was enough to elevate her spirit. The deepest of his voice and the velvety it sounded was enough to make her yearn to hear more.

"Uhn?" she didn't know what to say as she stared at her pinky finger in fascination.

"I love you" she stopped walking as her heart raced tenfold to his unpredictable confession.

"What's wrong? '' she asked, biting her lips even though she was giddy.

"Nothing," he answered, "I just feel like letting you know that I love you with every fiber of my essence" he declared, making her throat clogged.

After gathering herself, "I love you to my heart" she said in a small voice, a smile dancing around her lips like a kid being given her favorite gift.

"I know" she could picture him smirking, "talk to you later".

"Okay," she said, sighing looking at her phone, bringing it to her chest.

She walked to her cubicle to drown herself in work before she went home, she was typing furiously when her phone beeped.

2:00pm

Squidward :

Guess what?!.

2:00pm

SpongeBob :

You know I'm not good at guessing.

2:00pm

Squidward :

I'll buy you your favorite ice cream.

2:01pm

SpongeBob :

How can you buy me ice cream when you are miles away from me except if you want to order it for me and I don't mind.

Squidward :

Pfft, as if!. We are coming to the state tomorrow!.

SpongeBob :

What!.

Squidward :

Mom informed me that we are going back home.

Awwwww, squidy.

"Gotcha" Sabrina's voice startled Angelina, making her drop her phone, "chatting during work?" she scowled at her.

"Sorry" Angelina blushed embarrassedly, she broke the office conduct.

"Quit apologizing!" she grinned wickedly, "I'm going to see you are gone today…".

"Sabrina…" Angelina trailed off only to be stopped by Sabrina's raised hand.

"...and gone for good".
