《The Ecstasy Of Faking It》Chapter 27: Partners in crime.

I always told myself that relationships were not for me, hell, I even meant it. I liked admiring Emily from a far before she decided to talk to me and I never would have imagined that I'd end up 'dating' her.

I knew I liked her a lot and it only had been a week but it felt like we had been dating forever due to the fact that we spent a of time together and I liked that but something felt... Off.

I was hiding things from her, things she clearly wanted to know about and I wanted to tell her, I really did but I didn't know what her reaction would've been. What if she broke up with me and decided to be a stranger again? I wanted to be everything but a stranger.

"Whatchu thinking about?" She asked, dragging me out of my thoughts.

I was sitting next to her in her living room, she was making me watch some movie called fault and stars or some shit like that.

"Nothing." I shook my head and smiled as I glanced at her.

"Such a liar." She giggled and threw popcorn in my face.

I was about to respond when my phone vibrated in my pocket, I pulled it out and narrowed my eyes at the name popping on my screen.

I hadn't talked to Isabelle in a while and she wasn't supposed to call me after what happened the last time we were together, so why was she calling me.

"Who's Isabelle?" Emily peeked on my phone, grabbing a hand full of popcorn.

"No one, let me take this real quick." I stood.

"Or you can take it right here. I won't eavesdrop or anything." She chewed slowly.

"Right." I said sarcastically, taking the call and heading to the hall.

she hung up on me.

Bitch.

I stepped back to the living room and stared at Emily, her eyes were glued to the TV and she looked like she was really into the movie.

Unlike most people, Emily enjoyed my company, I wasn't a very chatty boyfriend but she said she liked the fact that I listened to her a lot, I liked listening to her and, I really didn't want to go and not spend that night with her but that would have been a suicidal move.

I sat on the couch and rested my arm around her shoulder, she looked up at me and smiled, a faint smile.

Knowing Emily, I knew she wanted to know about Isabelle, the hungry curiosity of her mind was eating her up and I wanted to feed it but how? Isabelle's story was a never ending web and I didn't want to blend in on it.

I kissed her cheek and tucked loose strands of hair behind her ear, "She's really no one." I whispered in her ear.

"And that call? What was that about?" She asked, still looking at the TV.

"She wants my help with something." I said in a low tone.

She turned to look at me, "So you're leaving?"

I nodded yes.

She looked down at her finger nails, "Wow."

"Wow?" I raised my brows at her.

"Wow. So some chick calls you and you go running-"

"That's not what is happening." I shook my head and laughed a little.

"It kinda sounds like it." She looked at me again and our eyes met. I felt like I was doing something very wrong.

Well, I was.

"Emily, please don't do this right now." I said and she shifted in her seat, giving me her full attention.

"Adrian, you're going out to see some chick called Isabelle and you can't even explain yourself so make me understand why I shouldn't do this right now." She pointed out. It did sound bad.

At that point, I wanted to tell her everything but I didn't have the guts for it.

I sighed.

"Isabelle is a friend I met three years ago and I don't like her in that way cause she's . . . Gay." I lied. Isabelle was not gay but it sounded like the right way to make her stop.

She stayed silent for a while, studying my face.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to spend this night with you." She said, I felt guilty for lying and for leaving.

I cleared my throat, "It's okay, I'll make it up to you tomorrow."

Her lips crept into a smile, I placed my hand on the side of her face and pressed a kiss on her lips. She had really soft lips and I couldn't get enough of them and because of that, a peck on the lips ended up turning into a make out session.

"Adrian, go." She whispered.

"These lips though." I said as I stole another one.

"Go." She pushed.

"Okay okay, I'm going. I'll call you tomorrow morning." I said as I got up.

"Goodnight, have fun with Isabelle" she rolled her eyes at the name. I guessed the name Isabelle really did sound like a threat.

But I did love how jealous she was.

"Goodnight." I walked out of the house and rushed to my car, if Toby was making us gather at 9pm it only meant that it was something important and that he was either anxious or angry and me being late would only make him angrier.

******

I arrived at the old warehouse and released a frustrating sigh, I saw Isabelle smoking a cigarette outside the building, I got out of my car and she started walking towards me.

"Jesus" I rolled my eyes.

"Where the fuck have you been bro, Toby is seriously pissed right now." She growled.

"He's always pissed, why are you back?" I walked towards the warehouse and she followed closely behind me.

"Toby called me." She responded and I halted, turning to look at her.

"He called you?" I asked in disbelief.

"Yes, said he wanted me back." She shrugged. I felt rage sip into my veins.

I opened the front door and stepped inside, surprisingly, there weren't any people there, the place was empty and dirty and smelled like sweat.

So why were we there if everyone else was gone?

"Isabelle!" I heard Toby call from somewhere.

"Shit." She muttered more to herself, "He's here!" She shouted back before grabbing my arm and dragging me to his office.

"Seriously? You don't have to drag me, I have legs." I wrecked my arm and she glared at me.

We walked into Toby's office and I spotted him talking on the phone while pacing back and forth, Kelvin, his bodyguard was there too and I also noticed a big box sitting on his table.

He hung up the phone and looked at us.

"Where the hell have you been?" He asked me.

"Home, doing homework." I responded in a lazy tone.

"As if. I have an assignment for you two, I want-"

"Nah, hold on a second." I cut him off, "What do you mean us two? I don't work with her anymore remember?" I asked.

"Didn't you apologise?" He asked Isabelle.

"I did, I apologized a million times." She said and I glanced at her.

She did apologise like a million times but still, she ditched me while I was hurt and I could have died that night if it weren't for Emily.

"There you have it, now please deliver this box to a man called Jack Smith, I'll send you the address." He instructed.

"You promised that I wouldn't see her backstabbing face ever again." I said, pointing at Isabelle with my thumb while I looked at him. Kelvin laughed.

"Adrian, please get over it, the two of you are partners in crime and so you got stabbed but you didn't die did you?" He said, like it was nothing.

"I almost died man, you weren't even there." I pointed out.

He took long strides towards me and stood right in front of me, looking me straight in the eye, then he narrowed his eyes at me before he sniffed me.

Yeah, he sniffed me.

Giving him a weird look, I took a step back.

"Adrian?" He called.

"What?"

"Who is she?" He asked, pulling a cigarette out of his pocket and lighting it.

"Excuse me?" I narrowed my eyes at him.

"The girl you've been fucking, who is she?" He turned around and walked back to his desk. I took the chance to smell my shirt.

I did have her scent on me.

Shit.

"I'm not fucking anyone." My tone betrayed my statement.

"You can lie to the rest of the world but you can't lie to me so just tell. Who has you pussy whipped?" He asked, I rolled my eyes at him.

Telling Toby about Emily would have been the very end of my new relationship with her, he would have found a way to bring her to the warehouse and he would have told her everything and I was going to tell her everything myself but I needed time and I really didn't want her inside that warehouse.

"There's no girl." I swallowed when I felt my throat run dry.

"Then why do you smell like a woman?" He sat on his chair and asked me.

"I used my mom's lotion." I answered a little quickly.

He chuckled, looking up at his bodyguard and pointing at me with his cigarette.

"Smart but I'll find out either way." He shrugged with a grin on his face.

"She's just a girl man, nothing serious." I finally admitted but almost choked on my own words. She wasn't just a girl.

"Uh-huh." He clearly didn't believe me.

Damn it.
