《The Ecstasy Of Faking It》Chapter 23: I hate you.

Getting back to school after the New York trip was pretty tiring, I mean yes, I was a straight 'A' student who believed that skipping school was for hippies but I was starting to understand those hippies cause trust me, I had never hated math until that Monday.

And speaking of hippies, my boyfriend_no wait scratch that, my fiance decided not to show up for school that day but I wasn't surprised.

I'll tell you something that was surprising, the fact that everyone at school was asking where he was and why he didn't show up to school. People didn't give a damn about Adrian's life just a week before but that all changed, I didn't know why and I definitely did not want to ask.

I was dragged out of my thoughts by the familiar sound of the school bell, marking the end of our last class which was history, a Couple of people let out a sigh of relief as they started packing their stuff and marching out of the class room.

I picked my backpack from the floor and shoved my notes and history book inside before zipping it and swinging it over my shoulder while I withdrew from my seat.

Mr Greyson was still sitting in his chair in front of the classroom, he looked at me from the rim of his glasses and I just knew he was about to talk to me.

"Miss Bennett, a word please." He requested.

So creepy, what happened to can I talk to you for a second?

I walked over to stand in front of his table and he leaned back on his seat, interlocking his fingers and eyeing me suspiciously.

Or so I thought.

"What's going on, sir." I asked. He didn't respond, he just picked up a piece of paper and pushed it forward on the table. It was the history test that we took right before the trip, I got a B+ but of course that was considered to be a fail.

I sighed disappointedly as I picked it up and took a closer look.

"What happened?" I heard him ask.

"I don't know." I whispered back with my eyes still roaming around the paper.

"Heard you've been hanging around with Adrian Mackey?" He questioned, I had to look at him at that point.

"So? You think he's the reason why I'm failing?" I asked irritatedly.

I hated the fact that people thought Adrian was a bad influence on me.

"I don't know about that but I do know that you're the reason why he's passing." He forwarded another paper, Adrian's paper with an A+ on it.

"No fucking way." I picked it up with a smile on my face.

"Language."

"Sorry, I'm just really proud of that asshole." I chuckled.

"Language."

"I'm sorry, I'll just shut up now." I assured him and he laughed at my clumsiness.

"I understand, anyway, I was proud of him too and he told me about how you were tutoring him but it would be great if he actually showed up for classes often?" It came out more of a question like I was Adrian's parent or some shit.

He was expecting me to have the perfect answer to that question just like every other person that asked me about him but the thing was, I didn't know shit about Adrian. I didn't know where he was or what he was doing with his life.

"Uhm, I'll make sure to let him know."

"Sure, you can go." He said and I started walking out of the class, "Oh and Emily?" He called and I turned around, "Don't lose yourself while trying to save someone else." He adviced, I just nodded and stepped into the empty hallway.

He was right, I was losing myself while trying to solve all the drama in my life, At that point I felt as if people could see right through me but then again how could they not? I barely got any words out whenever someone asked me where Adrian was.

I pushed the school red doors open and met the parking lot, thankfully the busses were still there so I wasn't gonna walk home.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out, there was a message from Jared. I opened the text and found a picture of Adrian sitting by the pool with some model looking tan girl, he looked like he was flirting with her.

I huffed and looked up from my phone.

"Hey Emily!" A familiar voice called from behind me, turning around I saw Gina jogging towards me while Stacey and Jess were walking behind her.

My mouth stretched into a smile.

"Hey, nerds." I greeted, she wrapped her arm around my neck and squeezed me.

"Are you planning on taking the bus?" Asked Stacey.

"Did you know that students who don't own cars take the bus home?" I asked sarcastically.

"Yeah but Adrian would kill us if we didn't give you a ride home." Said Jess.

I hated how invested in Adrian they all were so suddenly.

"Not if I kill him first." I murmured underneath my breath.

We all walked to Gina's SUV and got in, I gave her Jared's address and she started driving.

**********

They dropped me off in front of Jared's house and surprisingly didn't ask any questions because I told them that I was meeting Adrian there.

I waited until they drove off to walk up to the front door. I rang the doorbell a couple of times and it took a while until someone finally opened the door for me.

And that someone happened to be Jared's sister Jen. She was in a yellow designer bikini that looked perfect on her slim body.

For fuck's sake, no wander he was into her but then again who the hell wouldn't?

"Can I help you with something?" She asked, holding the door like she wasn't going to let me in.

"No, Jared invited me." I lied with a determined expression.

"Okay but you're not rightfully dressed for this party." She looked at me from head to toe with her Judgey eyes.

God I hate it when people do that.

I looked down at my outfit, I was in Vans, denim shorts and a white t-shirt. I smirked at her before dropping my backpack on the ground and pulled my white t-shirt over my head, leaving me in my Calvin Klein bra top.

"Better?" I asked her, while picking my bag and letting myself inside the house. I left my backpack and shirt beside the entrance door.

The house looked huge but it was empty, until I heard voices coming from a certain direction. I followed the sound and saw a glass door which led outside to where the pool was.

I trudged towards the door and walked through it.

I saw Jared laying alone beside the pool_typing on his phone, then I fixed my eyes on Adrian and the girl I saw on the picture sitting across the pool.

Well they looked touchy.

I adjusted my posture and cleared my throat before walking to where they were.

I stood in front of them, letting my shadow hover over them and they both looked up at me at the same time.

The girl was in a red bikini and her brunette hair was barely dry and Adrian wore shorts and he had sun glasses on and his wet dark strands flopped on his forehead which made him look sexy as hell. I almost forgot that I was mad at him but I got reminded when I noticed that they were both barely dry which meant that he was probably swimming with her and doing God knows what.

"Who invited you?" He asked a little rudely while taking off his glasses.

I crossed my arms over my chest, "Can we talk for a bit?" I asked nicely.

"No, I'm busy." He looked at the girl and she leaned over, planting a teasing kiss on his lips.

He looked up at me and I swallowed hard while rolling my eyes.

It bothered me. It bothered me so much I wanted to drag the bitch by her hair and throw her into the pool but that would have been a girlfriend move and I was just his fake girlfriend which also meant that I wasn't supposed to be bothered when his lips touched another girl's lips.

"It will only take a second." I didn't meet his eyes.

"He said he was busy, can't you take a hint?" She ran her hand down his bare chest. I looked away.

"Can't you?" I looked at her.

"Why should I take a hint?" She put on a confused expression.

"Because he's my boyfriend. oh wait no, I mean he's my fiance." I faked a smile.

She chuckled, looking amused by my words.

"Your what now?" Asked Jared from across the pool.

"Oh he didn't tell you?" I turned to look at Jared.

"Stop it." Adrian warned and I stared down at him.

"He wifed me in New York during our trip." I raised my arm in the air and showed Jared the bracelet on my wrist.

"Okay, that's enough." Adrian stood and grasped my hand, dragging me inside the house. I turned my head to look back at the girl and stuck my tongue out like a child.

He dragged me into the first door he could find, which looked like a guest bedroom. I wrecked my hand from his hold and ceased my steps, he turned around and glared at me.

"What the actual fuck is wrong with you?" He growled, I scoffed.

"What the fuck is wrong with me? Says the guy who did not show up for class and literally went to a party on a mond-"

"That's not any of your fucking business!" He cut me off angrily screaming at me, I felt my anger rising all the way up to a hundred.

"Except I feel like it is okay? I'm just trying to help you out here!" I screamed back.

"But you can't, you can't help me because I don't want to be fucking helped, Emily, especially not by you!" He said harshly. I felt like crying.

Not only did I fucking like this guy but I also cared about him a lot and where did that get me? Nowhere. except for him kissing the life out of me and then screaming at me and shutting me out of his life whenever his mood told him to.

"Fucking asshole." I shoved him and he stumbled back a little bit.

"You always call me that and still, you never leave me the hell alone, leave me alone if you think I'm an asshole, Emily." He said. Stepping towards the door but I stood in front of him, his eyes boring into mine.

"So what? You want me to leave you alone so you can fuck around with girls like that one outside?"

"Correction, she wants to fuck me and at least she's capable of actually going through with it." He shrugged, I raised my eyebrows at him not believing my ears.

"Wow, Adrian. just WOW." I turned around ready to leave but as soon as I got ahold of the door knob, I felt his hand on mine while his other hand snaked around my waist.

"Shit, I'm so sorry baby, I didn't mean to say it like that, I swear it just came out really wrong." He whispered on my neck, my body became a mixture of hot and cold and electricity ran through me. I turned around and leaned my back against the door since he was dangerously close to me.

"I hate you." I whispered, staring at his angelic face. And I meant it, I hated him for making me feel all types of emotions towards him and only him.

He stared at me like he was studying me.

"I hate you too but I like that I hate you." He explained it better, bringing his hand to my face and brushing my cheek, trailing his thumb all the way down to my lower lip and dropping his gaze there.

Heat.

Desire.

Warmth.

fast heartbeat.

Shaking hands.

I felt it all.

I wanted to kiss him as bad as he wanted to kiss me but I wasn't sure if I would have been capable of stopping him this time around.

He leaned in, I parted my lips and closed my eyes, ready for him to kiss me but he ended up burying his face in the crook of my neck and released a breath which made my skin tingle. He wrapped his arms around me tightly and I had no idea what that was all about but I hugged him back and it was the most comfortable thing that I had ever felt in a long time.
