《The Ecstasy Of Faking It》Chapter 19: New York City.

"New York fucking City!" Jess screamed on top of her lungs as she raised a bottle of liquor in the air. Gina, Stacey and I also joined in on the cheering. She took a sip of the liquor and passed the bottle around. Smoking weed and drinking booze seemed like the perfect way to celebrate.

We were currently in our hotel room in New York City, we were only a few minutes in and I was already enjoying myself. Being the only ones who had a small number of individuals in a room was awesome, the rest of the girls actually had to share a room with a lot of other people but I guess we got lucky.

Mr Montgomery was clueless enough to let two teachers who were dating come with us and not only did we get our own four squad room, we also got the one furthest from the rest of the crew, which was also awesome because we could easily sneak out at night and check out the city without the teachers or students who know how to rat, ever noticing.

Adrian did decide to join us last minute, it seemed odd to me but then again odd might as well be his nickname due to the fact that he had these constant mood swings like a girl on her period, I decided to try and give Jess and the other girls another chance, I started sitting with them during lunch time and not with Adrian but guess what? He didn't give a shit, I didn't think he even noticed but I told myself not to feel bothered by it, I was crushing on the guy but I wasn't all that into him so distancing myself seemed like a perfect plan at the moment, And yeah, he was there to give me rides home and chat a little bit by my locker and kiss my cheek whenever my ex was around but that was it. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Finally here girls, what are we going to do first?" Stacey plopped down next to me as she rubbed her hands together.

"Finish this bottle, obviously." Gina said in a duh tone as she snatched the bottle from my grasp.

"We can get in Serious trouble for having that in here." I pointed at the bottle while Gina took a long shot and groaned at the strong drink.

"And who's gonna punish us? The couple that's busy fucking in-" Gina literally jumped on Jess and covered Jess's mouth shut with her hand.

"Dude, you can't say shit like that out loud." Gina whispered to Jess, still pinning her to the bed with the hand still on her mouth.

"Jesus Gina, get off me." Jess pushed Gina off. Stacey and I laughed.

We were interrupted by a knock on our door, Stacey and I exchanged a bug eyed look.

"Shit, Stacey, hide the bottle." Gina instructed, Stacey took the bottle and hid it under one the beds while Jess rushed to her suitcase and pulled out her perfume, spraying it around the room to get rid of the scent of weed and alcohol.

"Gina, go get the door." Jess said to Gina as she threw the perfume back in her suitcase and closed it.

"Why should I get it?" Gina whined.

"Because you have to."

"No I don't, Stacey can go get it." Gina pointed at Stacey.

"And risk the chances of whoever is at the door finding out that I'm high? No thank you." She shook her head in disapproval, shifting her weight on the bed.

The person knocked once more and my heart literally dropped to my stomach. It was probably just the weed getting to my head but I was sweating and I knew what getting caught drunk during that school trip would cause. Mr Montgomery made it very clear, he specifically said getting caught drinking, smoking, having sex, or disobeying orders will lead to quick expulsion and that's just if I'm in a good mood. Those were his exact words and they fucking got to me and-

"It's probably just Adrian." Stacey shrugged.

"Oh yeah, we forgot that one of us actually has a boyfriend." Jess walked towards the door, I held my breath as she opened the door which revealed Carley.

Feeling relieved, I let out the breath that I was holding.

"Bitch, you scared us." Jess said to Carley. Carley's eyes travelled inside the room, probably looking for me.

"I'm looking for Emily, is she in?" She asked calmly.

"Depends, who's asking?"

I quickly got up and rushed towards the door, "I'll take care of it" I assured Jess, walking out of the room. She looked at both of us suspiciously before she slowly closed the door. I turned to give Carley a what the hell look.

"We gotta talk." She said. We walked a few steps away from the door in the long hallway.

"Talk." I crossed my hands over my chest and eyed her.

She took her time to stare at me and before I knew it, tears welled up in her eyes.

"I'm sorry." Her tone was barely audible, "I know I was a really bad friend to you and that I should have just told you everything from-"

"Everything? What's everything?" I narrowed my eyes at her.

"I know why Charlie broke with you." she said, I raised an eyebrow.

"What? I mean, what was it?" I questioned curiously. She looked down at her hands and hesitated. "Carley you owe this to me." I reminded her and she looked at me again.

"His uh, the uhm- school told his parents that he wasn't concentrating on football, that they were going to take away his scholarship if he kept slipping on the field. Haley told his mom that it was your fault, that you were making him do these crazy things all the time and I guess she believed her because Charlie and his Dad had an argument that night and he broke up with you the next day." She explained. I rolled my eyes at the pathetic story.

"So his parents told him to break up with me and he just did?" I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"Yes and he really did love you Emily, you should have seen the look on his face when he first told us you guys were dating." She laughed through her sobs, a smile crept on my face too.

I couldn't sleep when I first started dating Charlie, I just could not stop thinking about him and his priceless smile.

God, I was such a child.

"Did he send you to say all these things to me?" I asked.

"No no, he has no idea I'm here. Well no one does, I just thought you deserved to know the whole truth and my apology." She said. She really did look sorry.

"Do you guys know how much pain you put me through? You were the only friends I had and you just threw me out the window like trash." I stated.

"I know and I'm really sorry Emily, I really am." Tears rolled down her cheeks, I sucked up my pride and engulfed her in a hug. She wasn't as bad as Haley anyway.

"It's okay, don't cry, I forgive you." I patted her shoulder, she pulled away and wiped her tears.

"Thanks." She forced a laugh, Her eyes looked puffy and her nose red.

Something about that whole conversation relieved me, I felt like it was the piece of the puzzle that I had been looking for, but the puzzle wasn't complete yet.

"Do you know which room Charlie is in?" I asked her.

"Yeah, I'll escort you." She smiled and led the way to the room.

We reached a white door with the golden numbers 210 on it in the same hallway, we could hear their noise from outside, Carley banged on the door like a cop. There was a silence so I guessed they heard the knock. Seconds later, Cole opened the door, he was wearing nothing but Calvin Klein underwear.

"Oh God." I averted my eyes.

"C'mon, It's nothing you haven't seen before." I felt his hand on my chin, trying to make me look at him. I slapped his hand and looked at him but not his lower body. The chest was entertaining enough.

"I feel so sorry for your future children." I heard Carley remark. I chuckled in a low tone.

"And that my dear Carley is why guys like me are never going to have kids." He smirked and winked at her. Jerk.

I had no idea why every girl found him interesting, including myself. Of course he had a pretty face and a body to kill for but he was a complete dick.

"Please Call Charlie." I told him.

"I'm sorry, did you just say Charlie or Adrian?" He asked, he was mocking me.

See? Complete Dick.

But then realization hit me.

"Adrian is in this room too?" I whispered for some reason.

"Oh yeah, a lot of interesting guys are in this room, though I have to say, your boy Adrian isn't as interesting. He's more of a loner in headphones but, I can still see why you like him so much." He whispered the last part and winked at me, I rolled my eyes at him.

"Just call Charlie, asshole." I hissed at him.

"Okay." He raised his hands in the air, "hey Charles, there are two hot girls here for yah!" He screamed.

"Go get it Charlie!" I heard a guy shout, some cheered while others whistled. Carley and I looked at each other and just laughed.

Boys.

Charlie came out and closed the door behind him, he did look shocked to see Carley and I standing in front of him.

"I'm gonna go have a shower now." Carley made up an excuse and left us alone.

"Disappointed?" I asked, poking his shoulder playfully. Why? No idea.

"Never." He responded, leaning against the wall and staring down at me.

Looking at him, I was reminded that there was a time when I liked him, a time when I thought my life wouldn't be a life without him, a time when I cared more about being with him and not studying or watching Netflix with my Dad. All of those were now memories, memories that I actually wanted to keep because turned out? I was greatful.

I grinned at him before wrapping my arms around his neck, he hesitated but hugged me back eventually.

"Thank you." I said through our hug.

"For what?" He whispered on my neck.

"For everything, that includes breaking up with me." I laughed, he joined me. I tried to break our hug but he tightened his grip on my waist.

"Let's stay like this for a while, I feel like this is our final goodbye and I just don't want it to be that quick. I'm not sure if I'm ready to let you go." He admitted. My heart ached for him. I could sense the loneliness in his tone.

"My boyfriend is gonna murder you." I said to him.

"I know. That asshole is so fucking lucky." He chuckled, finally pulling away and smiling down at me. I guess I was wrong about both Charlie and Carley. They did give a shit.

But it was about time I moved on and concentrated on other things, Things like my feelings for Adrian.
