《The Ecstasy Of Faking It》Chapter 3: Something in Common.

It was no shock that Adrian was also in some kind of trouble, the dude literally got himself in some kind of situation like every day, he was well known for starting fights, swearing in class, skipping school, talking back to teachers etc.

We were inside the office but Mr Montgomery wasn't in, I was sitting right next to someone who was enemies with my ex boyfriend, I guess you could say we had something in common_which was hating Charlie. I wondered what his reason was though.

The only thing I knew about Adrian's life was that, his Dad and brother died in a fire during freshman year, he didn't come to school for two weeks after that and even though we weren't close, our moms were pretty close, Adrian's mom was a nurse and that's how she got close with my mom, that's how I got to know her.

It's not like I didn't want to get to know him, it's just that he hated Charlie and I was team Charlie at the time.

But there I was, dumped like trash by the team I was rooting for.

Quite sad if you asked me.

Besides, the whole being abandoned situation really taught me a lesson and I wanted to reach out to Adrian.

And like the universe was giving me a sign, I saw him glance at my hand which looked a little bruised.

"I punched someone." I fed his curious mind.

"I didn't ask." He sounded cold and seriously scary.

He was cold and seriously scary. No one talked to him, they wouldn't dare talk to him but I wanted to talk to him, I didn't know why but I did.

"So, what did you do?" I asked, trying to cook up conversation again. He didn't respond or turn to look at me.

Mr Montgomery, the principal walked back in, he took his seat and looked at Adrian and I equally.

"I don't teach violence and neither do all the teachers here so I wonder, where do all these kids learn it from?" He asked himself.

I think he was expecting us to answer the question because he didn't say anything else, he just kept staring at both of us.

"Can I go now?" Asked Adrian in a deep husky tone like he was just from waking up.

Why was he trying to sound all sexy?

"No, no you can not, I have to punish you for breaking school rules." He pointed out.

"Then do it already, we all know it's detention." Adrian rolled his eyes at our principal. I smiled at his reaction, Mr Montgomery sent me a disapproving glare and I coughed it out.

"I just hope you change for the better, especially you Mr Mackey, and no it's not detention, the two of you are gonna be cleaning this entire school everyday after classes for two whole weeks, infact, I'm giving the janitor a two weeks leave." He declared.

I gasped. was that even legal?

"Mr Montgomery, you know me, I'm one of the good ones and what happened today was a total mistake, I promise it will never happen again." I explained myself.

"Of course it won't, you start today and by today I mean right this second, I'll meet you in the parking lot in ten." He instructed, Adrian got up and walked out of the office while I was still sitting down.

"Mr Montgomery-"

"Emily, I'm too disappointed to even look at your face right now, I expect anything from Adrian but you?" He said in disbelief.

"But let me explain-"

"I already heard enough from the eye witnesses, you can go and join Mr Mackey if you will." I saw a flash of disappointment on his face.

The eye witnesses? What is this? NCIS?

I could tell that he was really pissed so I shamefully brought myself to my feet and exit his office. I strolled to the exit of the school while asking God for a rewind, Adrian was leaning over a car in the parking lot, he had headphones in his ears so I couldn't talk to him.

I saw Haley, Carley and the rest of the cheerleaders chatting by their expensive cars, it looked like they were getting ready to leave.

As naive as I was, I didn't want to believe that Haley and Carley were only friends with me because I was dating Charlie.

So I decided to go and find out.

"Hey Adrian?" I called him, he had headphones plugged in so he couldn't hear me. I walked over to him and tapped his shoulder.

"What?" He asked, sounding annoyed.

"I'll be right back, yeah?" I told him, his brows shot together like he was confused.

"How's that any of my fucking business?" He asked, looking into my eyes.

"Geez." I turned around, walking to where Haley and Carley were.

"Hey guys." I waved my hand. They all gave me weird glances.

If I didn't know better I'd say they had no idea who I was but I had hung out with them several times so..

"Can we help you?" Asked Haley, the rest of the gang giggled and whispered amongst themselves, except for Carley. She looked rather guilty.

"I was just wondering if you.. we're gonna go to uh fresh view, because we always go to the..uhm, there on Mondays." I stuttered.

"Seriously? Can't you take a hint?" She asked, swirling her manicured finger around a piece of her hair.

"What?"

"We were only friends with you because you were dating Charlie, so you can stop acting like we're friends now." She said harshly.

"Haley." Carley said in a warning tone.

"What? It's only the truth." She smirked and crossed her arms over her chest.

I was trying really hard to hold back the tears.

"Okay bye." My tone was barely audible as I turned on my heel and walked away from them, I heard them all burst into laughter and I felt a tear roll down my cheek.

"Get your shit together, Emily." I said to myself as I wiped the tear away.

I went back to where Adrian was.

I didn't know what I did to the world in order to deserve such cruelty.

I ambled towards Adrian and yanked his headphones.

"What the fuck!" He growled.

"What? Did I interrupt Adele's touching lyrics?" My voice came out lower than I intended.

He narrowed his eyes at me. I waited for him to respond but as expected he didn't, he was about to plug his earphones back in when I asked..

"What's wrong with me?"

He sighed, giving me a baffled stare, "I don't know dude, what's wrong with you?" He asked me the same question.

"I don't know either." I muttered.

He shook his head at me, "You should really stop doing drugs."

Of course he thought I was high.

"I'm not on drugs, I just think there's something wrong with-"

"Yeah I don't really give a shit about whether or not there's something wrong with you, so save it for the people who actually do give a shit." He gave me a fake smile before an eye roll.

"You're a real asshole you know, I'm just trying to-"

"Don't finish that sentence." He raised a silencing finger.

"Why not?" I questioned.

"Because I don't want to hear it." He said, matter of fact.

"Asshole." I whispered.

"Loser." He uttered.

I Sighed defeatedly.

"Maybe I am." I said more to myself.

"What?" He squinted his eyes at me, looking totally lost and confused.

"Nothing." I responded.

He laughed sarcastically, "Stop doing drugs." he said before he moved far away from me.

He was not as bad as Charlie said he was. Hell, I was even determined to make him my friend.
