Chapter 52:

Sam and I sat on the couch, the movie rolling away on the flat screen, lighting the pitch black room faintly.

We were watching, in my opinion a very creepy movie: Paranormal Activity 2.

Sam was sitting beside me, a grin spread across her face as she watched with engrossed eyes.

I was tense; my hand resting against my face as I wearily watched the screen waiting for something to happen.

There was a heavy silence in the movie and as my nerves were on edge I saw something move out of the corner of my eye, I jumped; looking over to see a figure standing in the darkness of the room.

I couldn't help but scream at first, the movie had me so, on edge.

Sam jumped at my scream, her eyes darting to me.

I heard laughter coming from the person standing there-Corey and now from Sam.

Corey walked up to the couch, laughing hysterically as he did.

I was trying to calm my racing heart.

I could only faintly make out his features in the low glow from the TV.

Just as I was distracted and starting to get my heart back to normal a loud bang came from the movie and I jumped, making Corey and Sam laugh even more.

Sam was now laying on the floor laughing animatedly.

"Are you sure you should be watching this?" Corey questioned, chuckling.

I smiled sheepishly.

He sat down on the couch beside me, as Sam regained composure and sat back down on the other side of me.

I sighed, Corey was still grinning as was Sam.

Sam cleared her throat. "We can turn it off if you want you know? If it's too much for you." She said to me.

"Shut up." I laughed.

We went back to watching the movie; I jumped at every single part that could possibly cause me to.

By the time the movie was almost over, I swear to god my eyes were watering.

Just the fact that it was so freaking loud was enough to make me want to hide under a blanket.

This movie was not for the faint of heart.

And I couldn't deny the fact I was extremely aware that Corey's hand, which was resting on the couch, was lightly touching the side of my leg.

The movie finally ended after what seemed like hours of nail-biting anxiety and the lights were turned back on.

The pizza arrived and Sam went to go answer the door.

I glanced over at Corey and he looked at me at that exact moment.

"I have a curious question." Corey stated.

"Okay," I said.

"If you are a vampire, what are you going to do?"

"I have no idea."

Sam came back into the living room with four boxes of pizza stacked in her hands.

She set them on the table with the rest of the junk food.

"Jeez, Sam did you get enough?" I asked.

She shrugged with a small smile.

I stood up and headed for the kitchen, I was going to look for something to drink.

I was so thirsty, I'd never expeirenced anything like it before.

It was really starting to irritate me. I just wanted it to go away.

"What movie are we watching next?" Sam questioned.

I looked back at her. "I don't care."

"Saw it is."

I reached the kitchen and opened the fridge, putting a hand to my neck.

My throat yearned for something to quench the strong thirst but I had no idea what would work.

I'd already drunk water, which usually helps when you're thirsty. But not only did it not help at all, I just wasn't interested in water or any other drink for that matter. I was thirsty but for some reason I wasn't craving a drink.

I sighed.

I sauntered back into the living room, regaining my seat on the couch.

Sam started the movie, the lights going back off.

I'd watched Saw before, it was nothing but blood.

But this time around watching it I was more uncomfortable.

Every time I saw blood my throat would feel even worse to the point of where I almost wanted to walk out of the room, I couldn't take it anymore.

I couldn't think about anything else except that craving in the back of my throat and I couldn't sit still, I was consistently doing something like running a hand through my hair or playing with the rings on my fingers.

I especially was constantly twirling the purity ring around because that finger had a slight burning sensation where the ring was.

The movie was turned up very loud; as Sam seemed to like it but I'm pretty sure she was asleep.

There was more blood on the movie and my eyes directed down, away from the screen.

I swallowed; my throat seemed to be begging for something but what was that something?

Blood?

It seemed to make since if it felt like that whenever I saw blood in the movie and would explain why no other kind of liquid could seem to quench this undying thirst.

"Are you okay?" I heard Corey ask from beside me.

I glanced over at him. "Yeah."

He could tell I was lying. I must suck at it.

"What's wrong? Is it the movie?" He questioned.

"Kind of."

He reached for the remote, hitting the pause button and there was suddenly silence save for Sam's steady breathing coming from beside me.

I stood up, not wanting to wake her and walked to the kitchen which was mostly dark except the slight light coming from outside.

It was just after midnight, the clock on the wall read five after.

Corey followed me in there; I leaned against the counter and he stood about a foot away from me.

"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" He inquired.

"Um, it's nothing really, I just..."

"You just?" He urged.

I shrugged, tucking my hair behind my ear. "I don't know."

"Well something is obviously wrong."

"I'm just...thirsty."

A smile crept onto his face. "For blood?"

"No-o-o-o." I responded.

"How 'bout you just try some blood and you see if it does anything."

"No."

"Why? Are you afraid that you actually might like it?"

"No."

He looked at me doubtfully. "Why were you uncomfortable during the movie? Was it because there was a lot of blood?"

"No, I-I was uncomfortable because I...I-I was..." I ran a hand through my hair. "-Yeah, I suck at this. Okay, you were right."

He smiled. "I knew it. See, you are a vampire!"

I played with the purity ring on my finger. "That hardly proves that I'm a vampire."

"Yes it does. You're craving blood."

"I-I am not." I hated hearing it.

He rested his palms on the counter, one on either side of me.

"You are. This is going to be so much fun." He smiled.

"Fun?" I repeated incredulously. "How-how is this fun? This is..." I struggled for a word that fit just right.

"Fun?" Corey suggested.

"No. It's weird."

"Weird?"

"Yes, weird." I stated.

"No, we're both vampires this is awesome. Well, even though you are only half. Still, there's not much of a difference."

"How is it awesome?"

He smiled brightly. "You're immortal now. We get to spend the rest of eternity together."

I looked down. "And you're happy about that?"

"Yeah." His voice sounded somewhat confused. "Why wouldn't I be?"

I shrugged lightly.

"Aren't you happy about it?" He questioned expectantly.

"In what terms would we be spending eternity together? With you as my...friend?"

"Well, uh, I don't know. I was mainly just focusing on the fact we were going to be together. I didn't really think past that."

I looked at him as his gaze was fixated down.

He looked up with a slight smile. "Do you want to be with me for eternity?"

"In what context?" I asked.

"Does it matter? I'm asking simply would you like to spend forever with me."

I didn't really have to think about it. Of course I did. "...Yes." I answered.

"Now if you had to choose what would you prefer our relationship to be during that period of forever?"

I bit my lip.

He waited expectantly for my answer but I wasn't sure what I wanted to say.

He spoke again; "Would you want to be married to me for forever?"

"Well don't you know the answer to that already?"

"No." He replied. "How am I suppose to know if you do or not?"

"Well, I mean I was planning on getting married to you at one point so."

"But that was before and plus the time period wasn't forever. Forever is forever. It's a long fucking time."

"Yeah,"

"So would you?" He looked at me eagerly.

"Yes."

He exhaled deeply. "Okay. So are you not mad at me anymore for breaking up with you?"

"Still kinda pissed."

He breathed a laugh. "Fair enough. Would it help if said I was sorry? And I really meant it?"

"Maybe." I did a one-shoulder shrug.

"Well I am really sorry. If I could go back in time I would do things differently. I already knew it was a mistake when I did it. But you know how it is. You learn from your mistakes. And I did. Which was what I was planning."

"Mm, okay. You're not forgiven though." I said.

He raised an eyebrow. "I'm not?"

I nodded.

"Oh, well maybe in time." He mused.

"Maybe."

"I guess I'll work on that."

I noticed at some point he'd gotten closer and was now only inches away.

"So back to the subject of you being a vampire," He incited. "- why do you keep doing that?"

I gazed at him with a questioning look. "Doing what?"

"That ring. You keep messing with it. You did it during the movie too."

I glanced at the silver purity ring. "Oh, I don't know it just feels weird."

"What, do you have a guilty conscience or something?"

"No. It just...burns."

"The ring?" He questioned.

"Yes."

"Can I see it?"

"Sure," I slid it off my finger and handed it to him.

He looked at it for a moment before going to the stove and turning on the low overhead light.

"Did you know there was a cross on it?" He asked, glancing away from the ring to me.

"What? No. There is?" I responded.

"Yeah, it's on the inside. It's small but still that explains the burning."

"Does that mean I can't wear it anymore?"

"Well I guess you can. It will just be uncomfortable. Though, it will probably leave a scar. It's up to you." He handed it back to me.

I looked at it for a moment before putting it back into place on my finger.

Corey gave a look of derision. "That's not what I would've done but okay."

The house phone suddenly rang making my breath catch in my throat.

I exhaled heavily walking over to the phone nestled in its cradle on the island.

I picked up on the second ring.

"Arabelle?" Came my Mom's voice after my hello.

"Yes." I answered. "Why are you calling this late?"

"Oh, I forgot about the different time zones. It's not too late is it?"

"No."

"Oh, good. I just called to check up on things. So how is everything going?"

"Um..." I trailed off. Should I mention the fact I might be a vampire?

After a few moments of silence she spoke again. "That doesn't sound good. What's wrong?"

"Uh," My mind was drawing complete blanks at that moment.

Corey spoke: "Telling your Mom you're a vampire. That must be fun." He smiled playfully.

I shook my head, smiling somewhat out of nervousness.

"What happened?" My Mom asked.

"Why'd you put a cross on my purity ring?" I asked out of the blue.

Corey stifled a laugh.

"What?" Mom said. "How did you even know? You had the ring off? Oh my god why did you have the ring off? Did you-"

"What the hell? Why do you jump to conclusions?"

"Language." She scolded.

"Ah, damn it."

She sighed.

After a second I realized what I said and bit my tongue to stop myself from cursing anymore as Corey laughed silently to himself.

"Anyways, Mom, I have a question."

"Yes?"

"What were your parents like?"

She became quite for a long moment. "They were...nice. Why do you ask?"

"Just wondering um," I exhaled deeply. "Were they...by chance not human?"

Silence again.

I waited with bated breath.

"Why are you asking these questions?" She finally said.

"Just answer the question." I urged.

"Of course they were human. Why would you even ask?"

I sighed but not with relief. I had the sneaky feeling she was lying.

"Well, um, I think that maybe, possibly, I might..." I bit my lip.

Corey finished my sentence. "Be a vampire?"

I rolled my eyes at him, taking the receiver away from hearing range. "You're not helping; this isn't exactly easy you know." I said to him.

He held his hand out.

I stared at him. "What?"

"Give me the phone." He prompted.

"Oh, no, no."

"You can't tell her so I will."

I heard my Mother's voice from the phone asking if I was there.

"Yeah, hold on a second." I said quickly to her.

Corey reached for the phone but I took a step back.

"No way." I claimed.

"Will you tell her then?"

"...Yes."

"Yeah, sure." He said mockingly.

In a moment he was gone and I cursed vampire speed.

I suddenly got a feeling and knew he was behind me.

So I swiftly turned to see I had been right.

A puzzled expression came onto his face. "How did you know I was behind you? Am I losing my touch?" He mused. "No, it's you." He smiled. "This is exciting. Give me the phone."

"No." I replied.

"C'mon who else is going to tell her? Not you."

"Fine," I sighed.

He grabbed the phone. "Hey, this is Corey. Your daughter's a vampire."
