Chapter 28:
I walked out of the mall to my car.
I'd said my goodbyes to Mary and promised her we'd hang out again soon.
I reached my car and stopped mid-step, starring at the back windshield.
"You have to be fucking kidding me." I said under my breath.
Someone had taken red paint and wrote leech lover on my back windshield.
I took a deep breath.
What's up with people taking their anger out on my cars?
They never did anything.
I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist. "What are you looking at?" Corey asked.
"Um, the..." I trailed off and he let go of me, walking towards the back of the car.
He stood there with his arms crossed. I heard him take a deep breath.
"I...I didn't think it would get this bad." He let out a bitter laugh. "I should've known."
"Yeah...you better be worth it." I said sarcastically.
He looked over at me; the expression on his face said it all.
I shouldn't have said that; Even if I was joking.
His eyes looked like a much darker green than there usual vibrant color.
"I-I didn't mean that. I was just joking. Of course you're worth it."
He slowly looked away and muttered something under his breath.
"What?" I asked, wondering what he had said.
He shook his head. "Nothing,"
He unfolded his arms and got in the passenger side of the car.
I flinched slightly when the car door slammed shut.
He didn't even ask to drive.
He must be really upset.
As I stood in the parking lot I saw group of people walk by me. "Hey, it's princess bloodsucker!" I heard someone say.
I bit my lip as they passed. A guy holding a plastic drink cup in his hands was closest to me.
He looked at me and said: "You're scum just like them." Then he threw his drink on me, splashing me with the soda that was in his now empty cup.
I heard them laughing as I squeezed my eyes shut to get rid of the soda in them.
I heard the car door open and shut as I wiped my eyes.
I blinked my eyes open and saw Corey beating the shit out of the guy that threw the soda on me.
"Corey!" I exclaimed.
He ignored me and grabbed the guy by his hair and smashed his head into the concrete of the parking lot ground.
My jaw dropped slightly.
"Corey, please stop." I said.
He grabbed they guy's throat and I could see his fingers digging into the side of his neck.
The mall security came; the two guards grabbed Corey and pulled him off, flinging him backwards so he landed face first on the concrete.
They started going towards him and I stepped in front of them. "Back off. He's fine." I said.
"Sure as hell doesn't seem like it. Maybe you should keep your bloodsucker on a leash from now on." One of the guards said with a tight laugh.

I ignored the comment.
I saw Corey slam his fist into the concrete.
The guard started to move towards him again but I gave him a look and he stopped.
"Shouldn't you be more concerned about him?" I gestured to the guy lying on the ground, grabbing his head where the blood poured out and wincing.
He looked at him. "He'll be fine. But I think your bloodsucker should come with me." He got a sadistic grin across his fine. "I got all my tools in the back."
Corey dragged his nails across the concrete.
He was still lying face down on the ground.
I shook my head. "No." It sounded more like a plea than a statement.
He sighed. "Fine but next time I'm getting my machete." He walked over to the guy crying in pain.
I let out a breath that I hadn't known I'd been holding.
Corey got up and walked to the car; his head down.
After he closed the car door I took off my key holder from around my neck, it was covered in the logo of my favorite football team.
Even though I didn't watch it that often I still enjoyed it.
I got in the car, putting the bag with my CD next to me and sticking the keys in the ignition.
Corey was facing away from me with his head down as I drove out of the parking lot.
I glanced down at his hand and saw the blood on it. I'm guessing it was his from when he dragged his nails across the ground.
I swallowed and looked back at the road.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
I heard him laugh under his breath.
I glanced over at him; he had his hands covering his face, his fingers were leaving blood trails on his cheek.
He didn't answer me and I looked away, running my fingers through my slightly damp hair.
After a few minutes of silence Corey reached over and took the bag from beside me.
He unwrapped the CD and stuck it in the player, turning it to number 4.
The music blasted through the speakers, it started slow at first but then picked up into full speed.
I took a deep breath as I listened to the singer scream his lyrics.
I fought the urge to cry the whole car ride home.
I knew it would just be pointless so I bit down on my lower lip, holding the tears back.
I tried to stop thinking about how close Corey had come to being tortured to death by that guard.
Once we reached the house I took the CD out and put it back in the case.
I got out of the car and headed towards the front door.
I walked to the kitchen, Corey followed me in.
Nick was in there. "Hey Arabelle," He looked at Corey. "What happened to the leech?"
I saw Corey's jaw clench.
"Nick, go away." I said.
He rolled his eyes. "Fine, whatever." He walked out of the room leaving me and Corey alone in silence.

I got a small towel from a drawer and dampened it.
I walked up to Corey and took his hand in mine, gently wiping off the blood from his fingertips.
He had his face turned away from me.
I sighed.
I rinsed out the now bloody towel and walked back to him.
I placed my hand on his cheek and gently pushed his face towards me.
His eyes shut.
I cleaned off the blood from his face and tossed the towel on the counter.
"Corey," I said softly.
He opened his eyes and looked at me but only for a second then he turned away again.
I sighed.
I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him.
After a moment he slowly wrapped his arms around me in return.
I bit down on my lip again as I felt the tears fill in my eyes.
I felt my lip stinging; I flicked my tongue across it and tasted blood.
The new found pain was distracting me from the tears that brimmed at my eyes.
Corey pulled back slightly, he looked down at me. "You're bleeding."
I nodded.
His face tensed for a moment but then he relaxed and bent down close to my lips.
His lips were a mere few inches from mine; his scent was so tangible I felt like I could already taste him on my tongue.
I took a deep breath and realized I'd forgotten to breathe.
His lips came even closer but still not touching, his eyes were shut and I could hear him inhale deeply occasionally.
My heart was racing and I felt dizzy, I was dyeing to kiss him but I wasn't sure what he was doing.
His lips brushed against mine and I felt his tongue slowly glide across my lower lip, removing the blood.
My eyes closed and I felt as if I were going to faint.
He kissed me slowly, our lips moving in perfect synchronization; I felt my body tingle as I moved closer, pressing myself against him and wrapping my arms around his neck.
After a minute he pulled away, his grip on my waist loosening.
I felt lightheaded as I took a step back from him and almost lost my balance but Corey caught me.
I placed my hands on the counter behind me for more stability.
I looked up at Corey; he was looking down at me, a slight smirk on his face as his black hair fell in his eyes.
He looked like the epitome of perfection; it took my breath away.
"Are you okay, darling?" He asked me.
"You did that on purpose." I accused.
"Did what?" His smirk grew more profound.
"That-what you just did."
"Kiss you? Well yes I did do that on purpose, it obviously wasn't an accident."
I shook my head. "You know what I mean."
"I'm not sure I do."
I tried to hold back a smile.
He grinned and laughed lightly. "That was fun. I'm going to do that more often."
I couldn't deny that it was fun. Maybe more like exhilarating though.
"Like my composure? I've been practicing." He said.
"Yeah but I still know it had the same affect on you."
He raised an eyebrow. "How?"
"You just drank blood today didn't you?"
"Yeah," He said slowly.
I smiled. "You're blushing."
His face turned serious.
"I am not."
I nodded. "Go look in the mirror."
He walked out of the kitchen and to the closest bathroom that was right down the hall.
"Ah damn it all to hell." He cursed as looked at his refection in the mirror, the pink on his cheeks being very noticeable against his pale skin.
I laughed and leaned against the wall.
He turned away from the mirror. "This is so unfair. You're suppose to be the one that blushes. I'm a vampire; I'm not even supposed to blush."
I laughed again.
"Stop laughing at me." He blushed even more.
I tried to stop but I found the whole thing utterly amusing.
"I'm sorry-it's just so funny." I said in-between laughs.
"It is not." He protested.
He crossed his arms as I continued to laugh.
"Fine then. I can play this game, I own this game." He stated.
He smirked and drew closer to me. "You look so sexy today, baby. God, I just want to rip your clothes off."
He put his hands on either side of me, against the wall, coming closer.
I swallowed back a laugh. I could feel my cheeks getting hot.
"You're so gorgeous," He took a deep breath. "And so sweet and cute."
I looked down, trying to hide my face. "That's enough."
"But I'm serious, you really are."
His fingers traced my waist; he pulled at my shirt un-tucking it from my skirt and I felt his hands on my bare skin, traveling up to my chest.
I laughed. "You are one sex-crazed vampire. Abstinence, remember?"
I put up my hand to show the purity ring on my finger.
He sighed. "Damn it. Why did you even get that anyways?"
"My parents got it for me."
He rolled his eyes. "Of course."
"You are a real smart-ass you know that?"
"Yeah," He replied.
I smiled. "I love you."
He looked surprised but then smiled. "That's like the first time you've said it first."
"No it's not."
"Yeah it is."
I bit my lip.
"Stop biting your lip. You already hurt yourself once. Must you constantly be biting something? I'm starting to think you're a vampire."
I laughed.
"I love your laugh."
I blushed again.
"Ha-Ha. I win again."
"Shut up." I said. "Or I'll make you blush again."
"Oh hell no. there will not be a repeat of that."
I took his hands out from under my shirt and held them in mine.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too."

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
