Read A/N at end
We arrive at the house and my nerves go into overdrive. The house a decent size, family looking home. We step out of the car and Xander grabs my hand, squeezing lightly when he looks at me with an encouraging smile. I smile back then start our walk to the front door. I knock on the door and wait a moment before I hear the door open.
"Hello Emilia, How's it going?" She says raising her arms and giving me a quick hug. I hug back feeling slightly awkward but still giving her a hug.
"Hi mom, I'm doing good," I say as she pulls away.
"Come on in. Dinner will be ready soon," She says. She starts walking and we follow, leading us to the living room.
"Please, have a seat. Would you guys like something to drink?" she asks. I shake my head.
"No thank you," I say as I take a seat on the couch, completely nervous.
"No thank you," Xander says taking a seat next to me. There's an awkward pause that makes me more uncomfortable.
"Thank you for the phone, by the way. It's really nice," I say to her with a smile.
"Yeah, Mark picked it out," She says and I give her a confused look.
"Oh, right. That's your birth father," She says. Right on cue, I hear the door open. I freeze as I hear the heavy footsteps and turn towards the source of the sound. He steps in the doorway and just stare at him and him staring back at me with a slightly shocked expression.
"You must be Emilia," He says with a joyful expression.
"Y-Yes," I say trying to steady my beating heart. He sets his briefcase down taking a seat next to my mother.
"It's so wonderful to finally meet you and who is this?" He says gesturing to Xander.
"It's nice to meet you too and this is Xander, my boyfriend," I say looking over at Xander with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you sir," Xander says getting up to shake his hand.
"Please call me Mark," He replies before taking a seat again.
"I'm gonna go check the food. I'll be right back," She says getting up and walking to the kitchen.
"So Emilia, do you have plans for after high school?" He asks I nod my head.
"Yeah, I would like to go to college to be a nurse or doctor,"
"Wow, that's amazing. I actually own the hospital kinda between your town and mine," He says. I feel Xander slightly tense next to me and I give him a curious look. He looks at him with a slight frown etched on his face.

"What the name of the hospital?" Xander asked.
"Uh, The Saint Jona's Hospital," He answers.
"Oh really? That's fantastic. I actually know that hospital," Xander replies with a hint of anger. I look at him confused. Mark looks uncomfortable and excuses himself.
"Xander," I whisper to him.
"I can't believe this," He says.
"What's wrong?"
"He owns that hospital my mother use to work at, she was 'let go'," He says with slight irritation.
"Xander, why didn't you tell me?" I ask.
"I mean if I told you, you couldn't really do anything about it," he replies.
"Yeah, I know but I still care for her, she's like a mother to me," I say to him. He lets out a sigh.
"Yeah I know," He smiles at me.
"This is going to be awkward now," he says putting his head in his hand.
"Dinner is ready," My mother says before walking back. I get up with Xander and follow her to the dining room.
I take a seat with Xander by me and Mark sitting on the end with my mother next to her, which is across from me.
"Thank you for dinner mom,"
"Yes, thank you, Ma'am," Xander says with a smile.
"You guys are welcome. It's no trouble at all! Now dig in, there is plenty," she says. We start grabbing food, making our plates.
"Emilia, is there any hobbies you like to do?" Mark asks.
"I like to draw, read books and also, love to cook," I answer. He nods his head looking over at mom.
"Yeah, you mother love to cook. It's always amazing," he says.
"I use to cook alongside mom all the time. That's where my love of cooking came from," I say.
"So Xander, into any sports?" Mark asks trying to make conversation.
"Not really any type of ball sports, but I've done some boxing but never any competitions more for fun," Xander replies. He hums in understanding before continuing to eat.
"So, how did you guys meet?" I ask them.
"We actually knew each other from high school and we ran into each other years later. After that we would just hang out with each other," he says.
"So you knew she was married?" I ask. My mother sends me a subtle glare but I ignore it.
"Well, uh, yeah. But we loved each other," He answers.
"So did you know she was pregnant with your kid?" I ask.
"Emilia!" She scolds.
"It's a legitimate question that I have the right to know about," I ask shrugging my shoulders. They are silent for a moment.

"No, I only found out recently," he says with a gloomy expression.
"So, you lied to him? What a perfect little life you had without me," I mumble as I pick at my food.
There's complete silence after that. No one uttering a single word. The only thing that could be heard was the clinking of the silverware hitting the plates. We finished and they said they would clean it themselves. Xander and I take a seat on the couch.
"That was...something," Xander says.
"Something indeed," I reply.
"Are you okay?" He asks resting his hand on mine. I sigh.
"I guess. I know she lied to me and cheated on my, former father? But, it happened and I can't change it. He was an ass, so I understand why she left but she didn't have to leave me. I just kinda want to move past it and start over. I do want to form a better relationship with them. Is that messed up of me?" I ask a laugh escaping my lips.
"No, I think it's great you want to get to know your birth father and build the relationship back with your mother," He assures me. I smile at him.
"And if that doesn't turn out well, I will always be here in the end," He says giving me a quick kiss. I pull away and smile at him.
"Thank you, Xander," I say.
"So, how has Amanda been doing?" I ask. His face falls as he looks down at his hands.
"She is still trying to find a job but is becoming difficult. There is only the one hospital in the area and not very many places pay good for how hard she has worked. They let her go because of 'money' reasons,"
"Are you gonna have to leave?" I ask somberly. He pulls me into a hug.
"Never, I won't ever leave. And that is a promise," He states firmly. He let's go looking into my eyes. Then, just as we stopped talking, they walk back into the room. My mom looks at me with a somber expression.
"Emilia I'm sorry I lied, and I know I can't change anything and-"
"It's okay mom. I just want to move past it. I can forgive but won't forget. I just want to build our relationship back and also you...Mark," I say.
They look at me with a shocked expression that soon forms into a smile.
"Thank you, Emilia. That really means a lot to me," Mark says. I nod my head before silences sweeps us once again.
"So Emilia. We were wondering if you would like to move in with us?" Mark asks. I look at Xander then back to them.
"Really?" I ask in disbelief but then my thoughts go to grandma. She took me in when she didn't have to and for me to just up and leave?
"I-I don't know," I say honestly.
"You can take your time, of course, we just wanted to put it out there," He adds.
"Okay, thank you," I say.
They take a seat and we just talk for a little while losing track of time.
"We better head home," I say standing up. They stand as well and I walk over to them. I give them quick hugs and say 'goodbye'.
"It was nice seeing you Emilia," Mark says.
"You too," I say as I exit the house with Xander in tow. He laces his hand in mine and leans over giving me a kiss.
"Thank you for coming with me," I say.
"It was no problem," He says. We enter his car buckling up and heading towards the house.
We pull in and hop out the car.
"Good night Emilia, I'll see you in the morning,"
"Good night Xander," I reply giving him a peck on the lips before heading in my house.
I see grandma sitting on the couch and she turns to me with a smile.
"Hello dear, how did it go?" She asks.
"It went well," I say.
"Well that's good, I'm gonna head to bed," She says
"Okay, Good night Grandma," I say giving her a hug before heading to my room.
"Goodnight sweetie," She says as she gets up and heads down the hall also.
I go to my room and change into my pajamas and flop onto my bed. I look at my phone, starting up wattpad and start to read.
I read for a while and feel my eyes grow heavy. I plug my phone in and cuddle into the pillow and soon fall asleep.
