《Long Sleeves are my Friend [Complete]》Chapter 17

Xander P.O.V.
I hear a knock on the door. I go over and open it to see Mrs. Harrison, Izzy, and Mom.
"She still hasn't woken up yet," I tell them looking back at Emilia. I move aside so they can go see her.
"Izzy be careful okay?" mom says to her. Izzy nods and they walk over to her. Mrs. Harrison sits in the chair while mom and Izzy stand on the other side. Mrs. Harrison gently grabs Emilia's hand, holding it in hers as tears form in her eyes. I go over and rest my hand on her shoulder.
"She will wake up, she has to," I say out loud. I see Izzy starting to form tears in her eyes but she wipes them away with the back of her hand trying to look tough. Mom pulls her close hugging her and grabs Emilia's other hand.
"Emilia, we are here for you, we care about you. We will be here when you wake up," She says looking at all of us with sad eyes.
There is a knock on the door and we all turn. The door opens and a nurse walks in.
"Hello everyone, I'm sorry to interrupt. Can I speak with you guys for just a moment?" She asks.
"Yes, what is it you would like to talk about Charlie?" Mom asks. She works here so she knows just about everyone.
"We tried to call her parents but they haven't answered. She shouldn't be by herself after the...incident. Do you know if she has any other family?" She asks. Emilia has only ever talked about her father and brother.
"I'm her grandmother," she says to the nurse. How could I forget?
"Okay, would you be able to watch over her? When she wakes up, if we don't get a response from her parents of course," The nurse says back to her.

"Yes, most definitely I would," She says without a second thought. I smile. She might not know Emilia very well but she really cares about her. We all do.
"Thank you, I'll be out here if anything changes," She says before leaving the room.
"Mrs. Harrison, thank you so much," I say to her.
"It's no problem, she is my granddaughter after all," She says to us.
----
"Honey it's getting late I think we should go home and sleep," mom says to me.
"No, I'm gonna stay here with her just in case she wakes up," I say to her.
"Are you sure honey?" She asks
"Yes," I say with no room for discussion. I have to stay, this is my fault.
She sighs in defeat.
"Alright sweaty, make sure to eat something okay? We will be back in the morning," She says before leaving the room. I don't have an appetite, I just want her to wake up.
I lean against the bed laying my head on my arms. My eyelids grow heavy and I start dozing off. Then I find myself falling asleep.
----
--Emilia's P.O.V.--
beep...beep...beep...
I open my eyes and blink a few time to adjust to the dimly lit room. I look over and see the beep sound coming from a monitor. My lips are cracked and my throat feels dry. I look around the room, of course, I'm in a hospital again. I glance towards the window and see it's kinda dark out. What time is it? I look at myself. I have wires coming from my hospital gown.
This is just a recurring thing for me to be in the hospital, isn't it? What happened to me?
I feel a slight pain in my arms when I move them. I look to see bandages wrapped around wrists. I look over to see Xander asleep in the chair next to my bed. Why is he here?

Then the memories come flooding back. My mom, my father, my brother. Xander finding me when I...
Did he bring me here?
He starts to stir awake and he looks up. I internally gasp. His hair is all disheveled and he has dark bags under his eyes and his face void of color. He looks like he hasn't slept in days. A huge smile spreads across his face.
"Emilia? You're finally awake," He says excitement and relief in his voice. How long have I been out?
"Wh-" I cough lightly trying to speak but my throat is dry.
"Just wait, I'll be right back," He says before leaving the room.
Moments later he comes back with a woman. She has a coat and clipboard in hand. She must be the doctor.
Xander hands me the water and I take a drink soothing my scratchy throat.
"Thanks," I say my voice still slightly hoarse.
"You're welcome,"
"Hello, I'm glad to see you are awake Emilia. I'm Doctor Stevens. I would like to check up on you if you don't mind," She says looking at me, then to Xander. He gets the idea and nods his head before leaving the room.
"H-how long have I been out?" I ask.
"2 days," she says. My eyes widened in complete shock. 2 days?! What are my father and brother gonna do now? Where are they? Are they here? I just sit there, not saying anything.
"Are you in any pain?" She asks me.
"J-Just a little i-in my...arms and stomach," I say looking down. I'm so ashamed. They probably think I'm pathetic.
"I'll give you something for your pain," she says.
"O-Okay," I say my hands shaking slightly.
"Okay, I'm gonna check your wounds to see how they are healing, if that's okay," she says. I nod my head. I hesitate before pulling my gown down my arms to show my stomach that has a huge bandage on it. I start to feel tears but don't let them fall. I can't show weakness.
"Are you okay with this honey, we can wait till later if you would like," she says with sympathy in her eyes. I shake my head. I want to get it over with. She probably thinks I did that to myself too. She starts to peel back the bandage and I cringe at the sight.
There is a giant X in the middle of my stomach. A single tear falls down my cheek. 'I'm so ugly'.
"Emilia, everything is gonna be okay," she says putting her hand on my shoulder trying to comfort me, but I feel anything but comfort. I feel like she is pitying me. She grabs some new bandage from the cart to recover it. I pull my gown back up and turn my arms up. She, again, peels the bandage off my wrist. I hesitate before looking at them. I glance down and grimace at them. They are stitched up and slightly red. I look away and feel tears silently streaming down my face. I can't even finish the job.
She doesn't say anything, she just redresses trying to be professional but sadness slips from her eyes.
"I'll call you family in now, I'll check up on you again soon," She says before exiting the room. Scenarios start running through my head. Before I get lost in thought there is a knock on the door.
"C-Come in," I say clutching the blanket slightly.
Here we go again...
