《The Tattoo Artist ✓》Chapter Sixteen | 'A Fool and His Money Are Soon Parted'

I spent all night searching, searching for the words he said to me. With one hand leaning against my jaw, and the other sketching in my book. I look up and see Ares doing a tattoo on Cathy's leg. "Ares."
"Yes, princess." He responds. Thankfully, Cathy is dead asleep. This tattoo is a big one, meaning long hours.
"I've been trying to figure this sentence out, but I can't."
"What is it?" He wipes the damp cloth to remove the excess ink and continues. I push a hair behind my head and try to repeat the words.
"Thymísou Ángelos...something along the lines." Ares looks up at me, I bring my chair closer to him and stare into his eyes.
"You're missing words. That doesn't make sense." I groan and slump back down, maybe the words he said to me could help me find him. I try my hardest, come on! It was only yesterday; you should be able to remember. Especially if it meant that much to me.
"I remember! Thymísou me tou Ángelos! That is the one! What does it mean?" I pronounced it wrong.
"Remember me, Angel." He whispers, his eyes gleaming with mine. He said it as if he was the one who meant it, he said it, just like the tone Diávolos used. My lips gently pull apart, and my heart rate increases but our eyes never leave each other.
I always believe in love at first sight, but this was not the first, why did I feel like...like I have looked into them before.
Ignoring my suspicions, I turn my head away. "Thank you, I was trying to figure out what it meant all night." I chuckle out to break the bond.
Ares did not say anything to me the remainder of the time. Instead, he remained deafeningly silent until the tattoo was completed. "Okay! We are ready to go!" Cathy puts on her pants and slings her purse over her shoulders. Her fingers were dangling from the keys.
"You leave; I should speak with Ares." I sense Ares staring at me, but I ignore it as Cathy nods and kisses my cheeks before directing her to leave the room. I turn around and close the door.
Ares looks at me with hope...?
"I want another tattoo," he stands up and goes to the sink to wash his hands.
"What do you want and where?"
"I want the two swords, like on the necklace Diávolos gave me." He pauses. Looking up to the wall in front of him.
"Don't be stupid, Alex."
"I want it on my back. My lower back."

"I'm not going to do that." Why is he arguing with me? He always said I would suit tattoos; I settle down onto the bed.
"Why not?" I answer back.
"Because. I am not allowed to. That's the sign Diávolos marks on someone when he wants them killed." My eyes widen, but the necklace. That did not make any sense. Diávolos gave me a necklace with the same sign, does that mean he wanted me killed? Why would he want to kill me? Have I done something for him to be angry with me?
"No Diávolos wouldn't kill me, the necklace had the same sign."
"With his real name on the back, when his people check for the mark, they see what's written." My palms were sweaty, is he telling me, that the entire time I had Diávolos' real identity on the back of my necklace? He was protecting me with his life.
"Explain, please Ares..." He stands between me, resting beside my hips as he leans close.
"On the back of the card necklace is mentioned the type of death. Exile. Bleeding profusely. Quick assassination. Stabbing. Shooting. He gave you a necklace with his true name on it, which means that if anyone touches you, he will personally murder them."
He pushes a lock of my hair behind my ears and tilts my jaw, no... this feels too familiar. All I need to do is go back to the drain and retrieve the necklace, I might have a clear chance of finding out who Diávolos is.
"So no, Alexandra, I will not tattoo your death on your body. I think the snake I mentioned earlier would like nice on you."
"How do you know about him? So much?" When I ask him, he softly chuckles and leans against the sink. He folded his arms over his chest, revealing his biceps to me. I just wanted to reach out and touch him with my hand.
"Why do you want to know so much about him?" He questions me back. I glare at him, folding my arms over my chest just like him.
"Because I want to Ares...I-I have been falling for him since I was sixteen, the night I saw him outside my window. I have been in love with him, and I want to know the man I love. Like you know the woman you love, and you know her so well...I want that...with Diávolos." His face falls, and his nostrils slightly flare before he turns to face the sink. His fingers brush through the thick locks of his hair.
"You're in love with him?" He whispers out.

"I think I am..."
"You're in love with a killer? A man who murders for fun. Why would you be in love with such an evil person?" My eyes widen, why is he asking me these sorts of questions? I feel my legs shaking a little and my nails digging into my skin as I stand up from the bed and grab onto my sketchbook and headphones.
"I understand him, even if he is a murderer. And he is not a bad guy, Ares!" I have never been so outraged in my entire life. "Everyone is bad; the only difference is who is telling the story. Ares...I thought I finally found someone who understood me..."
As I approach the door, I take my phone out to text Clark. I am requesting that he meet me in a specific area. What was the matter with Ares? He is never acted this way around me before. He normally gets what I am saying, but now he is acting like Cathy. And I am not sure I need two of them in my life.
I push onto the door of the hardware store and look for a fishing hook. "Can I help you, Ma'am?" I look up and see Clark, and I have never felt happier. "Hello little one, what are you doing here?"
"I didn't know you were working, I sent you messages."
"And I replied, telling you that I'm working. So, why so gloomy?"
"Ares is in love with another girl,"
"Darn! I knew good-looking guys are always taken." I chuckle softly, picking up the fishing hook, once I take it off, knowing half my savings are going on this stupid hook. I slip my bag down to my elbows and shuffle through to grab my purse.
I look down at my purse and see that I am five dollars short, I sigh and put the fishing hook back. "What do you need that for?" I turn my head.
"I-I lost my necklace down the drain, and I need to retrieve it. But I guess it does not matter. I need to get going before my parents go haywire on me."
"Let me walk with you."
"No, don't worry about it. And anyway, your mum is coming for dinner this Friday, join her."
"I definitely will, see you later little one."
. . .
I needed to figure out my ideas, and now I have nothing. I am not going to get the spot for Seattle. Great. My parents had a big row with me for coming home late, they need to understand that I am legally old enough to do what I want. Gosh. I would never actually say that to them. I am scared of them. Especially my mother. She scares me.
I groan loudly and throw the sketchbook onto the floor; I always have ideas.
I look up and see Diávolos stepping inside of my room, I shove my things to the side and stand up from my bed. He walks towards me, lifting his mask over his lips before crashing them onto mine, I feel liquid all over his hands as he slides it down my arm. Was it raining? I kiss him back; he walks backward until my back collides with the walls.
He lifts my arms and presses them over my head.
I open my eyes as he softly grips my face with one hand, panic etching my heart as I noticed blood trickling down my arms. My heart is beating as I draw my lips away from his. I examine my hands, which are stained with blood. I graze my cheeks and get the same dripping sensation. "Diávolos...who-whose blood is this?" He backs away as I stutter.
I could see his smirk since his lips were not covered, just by his look...it most definitely was not his. I feel tears fall down my eyes, shaking my head. He put someone else's blood on my face. "Why so sad, Angelos?"
"What are you trying to pro-prove Diávolos...?" I whisper. He steps towards me, his forehead leaning onto mine. "Why would you do this?" I feel his minty breath lingering on my nose.
"Because I'm evil, I'm fucking evil..." He whispers.
"N-No, you-re not." He chuckles, pushing away from me as he sat onto my bed. I stood against the wall. "Why do you do this? Why do kill?"
"I was head over heels in love with this girl...she had the purest heart and the kindest attitude, her smile alone made me happy. Then one day, I took her out on a date...a lot of people were looking for me, and they wanted me dead because I was a threat. I was the one who was supposed to be..." he said quietly, "but they went after her instead. I was driving, she was stroking my neck, and I looked away for a moment...just to gaze into her eyes...a car came up and crashed into us."
I make my way toward him and settle down onto the floor between his legs. "What happened to her?" He gazes into my eyes.
"She has a concussion and is now suffering from memory loss...she doesn't remember me."
