《The Tattoo Artist ✓》Chapter Eight | 'Curiosity Killed The Cat'

I push the door for the mini restaurant open, the bell above it rings. It is seriously packed, I squeeze in holding onto Ares' hand so he does not loose me or the other way. He tightens his grip around me, we reach the register where we order. "I normally get the chicken Blaster," I point to the picture on the menu.
Ares lowers his neck down so his ear touches my mouth because he couldn't hear me over the yells and conversations of other customers.
"I usually get the chicken Blaster; it's delicious." Ares turns his head, his nose brushing mine, as I said it again into his ears. His lips curled, and we were the next people in line to order.
Mike smiles brightly, "Alexandra! My favourite customer, what can i get you- Ares..." His voice changes as he spoke and looked at Ares, Ares stares at him before giving him a slight nod. Mike stares down at me, gulping. What on earth was that? The smile he once had drops into fear. "Usual Alexandra?"
"Yes please Mike, and another one for Ares please. Oh and can I also get the...sorry...one second." I try to read it off the menu.
"Can you hurry the fuck up!" I turn my head and see a group of guys shouting at me for taking long, my hands begin to shake.
A shift in movement behind me happens, I look back to see Ares staring at them. Their eyes widened in fear, "sorry Ares...we never saw you...and...her..."
"Get the fuck out of my face." They rushed out, Ares turns his head back to me and gives me a nod of reassurance.
"You want the dip?" Mike smiles, I nod my head. "That will be fifteen dollars."
I open my bag, grabbing my purse before a hand stretches over my shoulders. Mike took the twenty from Ares, I turned around with furrowed brows. "I thought this was on me."
"When I'm around, that purse stays inside that bag." We collect our food from the worker and settle down onto a free table next to the window.
I slip of my jacket and put my things to the side, Ares sat opposite me. I open my wrap with a smile and dip it into the sauce before taking a bite. I instantly realise, I force myself to swallow it. "What's wrong?"

"I forgot to tell them no pickles, I hate pickles." I groan, looking down at my wrap. I open it up and begin taking out my pickles.
"You have to try it, it's so good!" I say with food in my mouth, as I cover my hands.
"I'd rather watch you eat instead." His leans back, resting his arms onto the table.
"You can try mine," I say. Holding out my sandwich to him, he chuckles leaning forward. His hands cover my wrist as he takes a bite from my food. Biting a bit of my finger, I gasp as he pulls away. His jaw moving to swallow the food. "I said the food, not my finger. And look, you spilt sauce all over it."
He takes my hands and sucks onto my fingers, I felt his warm tongue. "Not anymore." He smirks. I sigh, looking down at my wrap.
"Ares, do you know someone called Diávolos...?" Ares continues to stare at me.
"The silent killer?" He responds.
"Yeah, do you believe that it's a myth?" I whisper.
"Nothing is a myth." He responds, opening his sandwich.
"I know he's real, I always see him through my window. He stares at me, and he has green eyes...just like yours." Ares' jaw tenses and I don't know if he felt jealous about me talking about another man.
"How do you know he's real?" He questions.
"You're going to think I'm crazy."
"Too late for that." I chuckle, settling my wrap down.
"He kissed me. The night the Johnsons came, he was at my balcony and i asked him-if he was real...to prove it and he kissed me." I graze my lips at the thought of it. "And it felt amazing...it felt right. I had butterflies all over my body. And he bit my lip, that's where Mr Johnson comes in." Ares. He stared at me with no emotion at all, I don't know if i spoke to much about Diávolos and made him uncomfortable.
"He kills people for fun, did you know that?"
"I know...but I also believe that there are two side of the story."
I decide to stop talking about Diávolos and continue eating my food. "Ares, can I have your number?" Ares face changes from serious to a smile, "I mean, so I could send you my CV application. For the job offer." I rub onto my nose, I just wanted his number so i could text him. When I miss him. He hands me his phone, and I blush taking it from him.

"You don't need to lie to me princess, if you want something, tell me and I'll give it to you. And if you need me, I guess you can call me." I chuckle, calling my phone from his. Just so I have his contact details. I put his name as Ares even though I should change it just in case.
"How does everyone know when I lie?" I groan.
"Because you rub that nose of yours,"
"It's a silly habit," I look down at my phone to see messages from my mum.
Mum: Sweetie, we have gone to Texas to see Aunt Coraline, she is not feeling well. So we might stay for more than two days. I put money on the counter for food. I love you!
I have never felt so relieved in my life, it was only six pm. "I'm done." I tell him.
"Let's go."
I straighten up, slinging my bag over my shoulders and sliding my jacket over my arm. I grab the trash and place it in the bin. Ares stands up, takes the sand he hasn't touched, and follows me. I wave farewell to Mike, who smiles back before dropping it as Ares walks by.
Mike takes Ares' arm, and I come to a halt and turn to look at them; I overhear a few murmurs. "She's a good girl...please don't-" Ares rips his arms free from Mike's grip. Ares turns his back to me and I know he's talking because Mikes eyes shift to me. Ares towered over him by five inches or so.
I could tell he uses his build and height to his advantage. The man that passes is a clear head higher than most people I would consider tall. Somehow he isn't lanky though, there's bulk on him too; muscles beneath the tight black shirt.
Ares makes his way towards me, interlocking my hands with his as we begin walking to the car. I turn my head and see Mike shaking his head to me, mouthing 'He's dangerous.' To me. I look away and glance up at Ares, why does everyone keep saying that? Ares opens the car door for me, I slide inside as he closes it.
Why is Ares dangerous?
Maybe people just misunderstand him.
Ares is not dangerous.
Not to me he isn't.
He starts the ignition, "where to?" I look into his eyes, and as I do. I see a world of stories untold. Ares makes me feel safe, he makes me feel known.
"The library."
"Isn't closed at this time?" I shake my head, taking out the keys from my bag. He nods his head and reverses out of the car park before driving to the library.
"I just have to grab a few things from the storage room, we have a dance coming up and I have been practising non-stop." He glances at me, "what was Mike telling you?" One hand on the wheel, the other resting on his window as he rubs his forehead. "Ares..."
"He told me that you're a good girl." He answers, vividly. He clearly did not want to talk about it, so I stayed silent the ride. I take my pomegranate seeds from my bag, opening the container.
"You want one?"
He opens his mouth, i take a few seeds and bend over before plopping them into his mouth. "Is this what you taste like?" He chews on it.
"Guess you'll have to find out." I whisper.
"Getting cheekier." When we arrive at the library, it is getting dark due to the time of year.
"Why me?" I whisper out, wanting to know the truth.
"What do you mean?"
"Why are you giving me your attention? You had Cathy under your hands, why did you choose me? Cathy is beautiful and her body is beautiful-"
"Cathy is not you. Beauty is more than simply appearances, princess; it is a state of mind." I come closer to him as he gestures to my heart. "And the fact that you don't recognise your own beauty demonstrates to me that you don't understand what beauty is."
I rest my head onto his chest, he strokes my back.
"Who are you Ares? Where did you come from?"
"I could ask you the same."

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping
This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.
