《The Alpha King's Mate》Chapter 27

What the heck?

Where am I?

I look around and see that I'm standing in a field covered in wildflowers of all colors.

Towards the center I see a woman with hair as dark as the night sky and clothed in a white gown that seemed to float around her whilst still showing off her figure. Golden armbands decorate her biceps and wind down to her wrists.

That's the moment I realize I had been walking toward the strange woman.

The closer I got, the more I felt a sense of familiarity.

When I was only a few feet away, the woman turned around, making direct eye contact.

Her eyes where a bright and shining silver, holding a look of knowledge and compassion within their depths.

Her skin looked as pale as the moon, while still looking bright and full of life.

Her lips were a pale pink, the color of a newly bloomed rose.

The longer I looked at the woman, the more I felt like I knew her.

"Hello dear."

The silence of the clearing was disturbed by this woman's words.

Snapping out of whatever daze I had been I start to ask questions.

"Who are you? Where are we? Where is Lucas? How did I get here?"

The woman held up her hand, causing the rest of my questions to die on my tongue.

"You've always been a curious pup. I will answer your questions but you must stay calm dear. You don't want to stress your babies."

Babies?

As in more then one?

"Yes Audrey. You're having twins."

Twins?

I'm having twins?

"Yes twins. Now, please listen to me so I can answer the rest of your questions? Good."

I nod my head at the woman as she goes to sit in a chair I hadn't realized had been there earlier.

"Sit down Audrey."

I turn my head and sure enough there is a chair directly behind me. I sit down and turn my head to the woman, ready for answers.

"My name is Selene, more commonly known as The Goddess of the Moon. As to where we are, we are in your mind, you subconsciously picked the location we are sitting in, not me. As of the whereabouts of your mate, he is still in bed, arms wrapped around you. I brought you into the depths of your mind as you slept to talk to you. As the Moon Goddess, I'm the mother of all werewolves but have only had a few biological children. Only daughters to be exact. My first daughter was the first Luna Queen, Aubrey. My only living daughter at this time is named Audrey, the current Luna Queen.

"Wait. Hold on a second. You're saying I'm your DAUGHTER?!?!?!? HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?!?!"

"When two mates conceive a child, it is my job and privilege to choose a wolf to go with that child or to deny the child a wolf if I see it fit. When I need a special wolf to fill a prophecy or something grand like that, I give the child in the womb a special wolf and a piece of me. That is the best explanation I can give you."

Speechless.

No words.

None.

Zip.

Zilch.

Zero.

"Audrey. I know that this is hard to understand but its the truth. All you have been through was for a reason and your children will play a bigger role then you could possibly know now."

"Okay. Is that the only reason you decided to visit me?"

"Mostly. I figured you would want to know who your mom is and the parents you were born to were kind and loving people who died in a car accident when you were three. Sarah and Jasper Shepherd ."

"Thank you Moon Goddess."

"Of course Audrey. If you ever need my assistance or guidance all you have to do is imagine talking to me and I'll be here. Now I think it's time for you to return to your mate."

Selene rose out of her seat and helped me out of mine before giving me a gentle hug and a kiss on the forehead.

Opening my eyes I'm met with the bright light of the morning sun.

I go to stretch when I notice something sitting inside my hand.

Two silver rings sit on my open palm with each having a moon and star carved into in.

Looking closer I see that inside there are a few words inscribed in the band on each side.

To Always Protect. That's on one part of the band.

On the other side is Mom and Dad Love You Always.

I sit the rings in my nightstand and think of how to tell Lucas that we are having twins.

I finally figured out a way to tell Lucas.

A nice and friendly competition on who can design a better nursery.

Each of us is going to design a nursery and that way we will be prepared for both.

After we design the rooms I'll tell him that the babies will love them.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Now how to get Lucas into the living room so I can tell him my idea.

I know.

"LUCAS!"

The sound of Lucas' racing footsteps could probably be heard in the palace.

Three.

Two.

One.

"What is it? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?"

Babies. I like this idea Audrey. Oh and hi. Haven't talk to you in a while. Being pregnant is hard.

Hey Kenna! I'm glad you like the idea and I agree! Being pregnant is extremely difficult.

"I'm okay babe. I did need you to come down here though."

"You are going to be the death of me baby girl. Okay what was so important that you had to yell at me to get me to come down here?"

"I want us to design the nursery! And since we don't know the gender they can be gender neutral with a slightly more masculine or feminine detail. What do you think?"

"That sounds like a great idea! What room do you want to design?"

"Rock paper scissors?"

"Deal!"

Lucas looked like a little kid on Christmas. I didn't expect him to be this excited about this.

"Okay whoever wins, gets to design the could be girls room."

We threw our hands, me with rock and Lucas with paper.

"Looks like you are in charge of designing the girls nursery. That means I have the boys. Oh and we each get to pick a group of people to help us."

"I call Dom, my sister, Lenna, Dustin, and my dad!"

"Fine cause I call Kendra, Jorgie, Sofia, Adaline, and Aella!

We shook hands and decided that we had the rest of the week to complete our rooms.

The week had flown by but Lucas and I both finished our nursery's right on time. Lucas was so excited that he demanded that he showed me his room first.

Lucas led me down the hall and stopped in front of our little girls nursery's door. The door has a silhouette of a howling wolf painted with a gentle lavender tint.

Opening the door with one hand and covering my eyes with the other, Lucas leads me into the room.

The center wall has a beautiful tree grove painted in a subtle grey over the white, almost pink, walls. The crib looks like it was carved from marble with beautiful and blush colored sheets and blankets. A fuzzy white rug covers most of the floor. The dresser and changing table look elegant and match the crib perfectly. A basket of stuffed animals sits in one of the corners with a few animals spilling out and onto the floor. A castle tower bookshelf sits on the opposite wall and tucked in a corner with a rocking chair sitting near it with the window seat also near.

To say that I immediately fell in love with the room would be the truth. Everything looks so perfect and I know that if we have a little girl.

"What do you think?"

I turn to face Lucas with tears and a smile. I throw myself into his arms whilst telling him how much I love the nursery.

"I'm glad you like it Aud, but curiosity is killing me and I want to see your nursery!"

I intertwine my hand with his as I lead him out of our little girls room and across the hall to our little boys room.

I can feel Audrey's excitement as she leads me to our little mans room. If we have a little man. I mean every king and queen have had a son as their first child since the beginning of time. I do want a little princess to spoil also. I hope Audrey wants more kids.

Zoning back into the present I look at the door in front of me.

Surprisingly enough a silhouette of a howling wolf is also painted on the door but painted on in a pale but rich green.

"Cover your eyes!"

I do as she says, not wanting to upset my very pregnant mate.

She gets really scary when she gets mad.

Its like every other day her wolf takes over her human form just to make sure that whatever upset her gets dealt with. Sometimes I don't think Audrey realizes it's happening.

I feel a tug on my hand as Audrey leads me into the room.

"Okay! Open your eyes!"

I remove my hand and what meets my eyes brings a smile to my face.

A mural of mountains, forest, and lake, covers the center wall in all shades of grey. A grey wooden crib with light blue sheets is pushed against the wall with a grey rocking chair sitting next to it and a grey poof sitting in front to be used as a foot rest. A wooden log like table sits next to the chair with a old time lamp and a black stuffed wolf sitting atop of it. A white, fuzzy rug covers most of the floor giving the room a very cozy feel. A log bookcase sits against the wall near this rooms window seat. A toy chest, also made out of wood, sits in a corner with toys in it and stuffed animals laying in and around of it.

"Do you like it?"

I turn to Audrey with the dorkiest smile on my face.

"I love it baby girl! You did a fantastic job!"

A small squeal leaves Audrey's mouth as I spin her around the room, her arms wrapped around my neck and my hands on her waist. As I place her down a sentence I never thought I'd hear leaves my precious mates mouth.

"The twins will love their nursery's!"

What.

The.

Fudge sickle.

Did.

She.

Just.

Say?

"Lucas? Are you still breathing? Do I need to call Doc?"

I can't find any words to say. I'm beyond excited but I'm still shocked.

"So help me, if you leave me to raise these two kids alone I will raise you from the grave just to kill you myself! Lucas James Knight! I demand you snap back into it!"

I quickly shake my head to clear my wandering thoughts and let the tears that were building to fall. Audrey tries to wipe them away but I grab her wrists to prevent her from making contact.

Figuring that words seem to escape me I decide actions have always spoke louder then words so I lean down and place a kiss on her lips, which to my enjoyment, she responds immediately.

Pulling away in need of this thing called oxygen, which sucks cause I would prefer to continue kissing my mate.

"So you aren't mad that there are gonna be two?"

"How could I be mad? Instead of expanding our family by one, we are adding on by two! This is one of the greatest moments of my life!"

Only a few more months and I will have two of my own children with the love of my life.

I can't wait.
