《The Alpha King's Mate》Chapter 15
Advertisement
Today is the day that Lucas and I decided that I should meet the pack. Lucas has put this off long enough and I know he has been dying for me to meet everyone.
Only problem is...
I'm terrified.
Terrified of new people.
Terrified of large crowds.
Terrified of being the center of attention.
Terrified of the possibility I will be attacked.
Terrified of the pack not liking me.
Terrified of spiders... Wait... That has nothing to do with this but still! Spiders are creepy.
Anyways, the list goes on and on.
Lucas has continuously told me that there is nothing to worry about. He says the pack is excited to meet their new Luna and Queen.
Wish I could believe him when he says this but it's been drilled into my head that no one can love me.
I still shy away from the affection Lucas shows me.
He says he understands but I know it hurts him when I flinch when he goes to hug me or when I shake when he leans in to kiss my cheek.
It hurts my heart knowing I have been causing him pain. I want to be the normal mate he deserves.
I want to be the strong and fearless Queen he wants me to be.
But I'm not.
I'm not strong.
I'm definitely not fearless.
The loud knocking on the bedroom door slowly pulls me out of my thoughts.
Can you calm down? Seriously all this talk about not being good enough is getting on my freaking nerves. So shut up and answer the door so we can get ready.
Whatever Kenna. I can't help it and you know that.
Just answer the dang door already! The knocking is annoying.
"Come in!"
"Queen Audrey? It's Kendra and Lenna. We're here to help you get ready to meet the pack."
"Hey I thought we agreed you would call me Audrey. No titles."
"Right. Sorry."
Lenna decides to speak next. She has always been quieter then her sister. When she speaks its very soft and I have to strain to hear her.
"We brought you a gift from the Alpha King. He wishes for you to wear it to the meeting."
That's when I notice the wardrobe bag in Lenna's arms.
She walks over to the bed and lays it down. Leaving the zipper closed, keeping the new outfit from my eyes.
"Should I open it?"
"Duh girl! Seriously!"
"Kendra! That was rude."
"Lenna. I can't help it and besides I was just joking around."
"Still... You shouldn't have said that."
For what seemed like ages the twins went back and forth.
Do something! Their arguing is annoying!
Oh come on Kenna. It's not that bad.
Fine you won't do something, I will.
Kenna? What do you mean?
"ENOUGH!"
Both girls jump and drop to the floor, showing their necks in submission.
"Oh, girls. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell. Kenna was restless and said she was going to stop the arguing but I didn't know what she meant and I couldn't stop her."
The girls keep their necks exposed but glance up from their positions on the ground.
Kendra is the first to speak.
"We're sorry for arguing. Don't apologize to us. You are the Luna Queen and your wolf took charge. Something interesting did happen though. Did you notice it Lenna?"
"Yes. Your appearance changed and you expelled more power then any known Queen has done. With or without the mark of the King."

My appearance changed?
More power?
Kenna? What are they talking about?
I took control without causing you to shift.
What does that mean?
It means, that I took control of your human form. Since I was in charge my eyes were present and you hair changed to the color of my fur. We've done it before so I don't know why they are freaking out about it. Honestly, humans, so slow, no offense Aud but seriously.
Kenna what is your problem today? You have been in a bad mood all day.
I don't know Audrey, I can't help it. Everything just keeps ticking me off and I miss Lucas and Sorren. We haven't seen them all day. We didn't get our good morning kiss and that annoys me.
Whatever you say Kenna. We will see them soon.
"Excuse me, I hate to interrupt Luna but we need to get ready. Can we get up?"
Lenna's voice snaps me out of my conversation with Kenna.
"Oh right! Yes of course! Up up! I'm truly sorry that I made you do that!"
"It's okay Audrey, we understand. Your wolf seems to be on edge and she needed to show that she was in charge. Now... Open up the bag and see what dress the Alpha King wants you to wear!"
I did as Kendra suggested and walked to the bag and reached for the zipper.
Slowly pulling the tally-whacker (that's the name of the metal zipper thing in case you were wondering...) down, and pulling each side of the bag apart, to reveal a beautiful dress.
The rich blue of the dress made a smile grace my face. The blue reminds me of a certain pair of eyes I could stare into for years and never want to blink.
The fabric had a lace covering over the entire dress that gave a nice touch. The back went lower then the front, giving a small sense of a train even though it wouldn't reach the floor.
White heels were in the bottom of the bag along with a few jewelry boxes.
Inside the boxes was a pair of diamond earrings that dangled to the middle of my neck, a necklace with a small crescent moon pendant with a single star on the chain, and a small silver twist bracelet that fit better as an armband.
To say that I was touched by these gifts was an understatement. I strange feeling was felt in my chest, causing my heart to warm.
Kendra and Lenna helped me get the dress on and style my hair.
They decided on a half up look with four braids connecting into one long section of hair.
After styling my hair the twins started doing my makeup in a natural look. The eye shadow was a warm yet light brown with a slight shimmer. A light coat of mascara was applied to accent my already long lashes. A warm reddish pink lipstick was applied, making my lips look bigger and fuller.
The girls helped me put on my jewelry and shoes before studying my appearance. I felt beautiful and slightly more confident then usual but the twins kept staring at me. Looking for something, yet coming up empty.
"What's wrong? Do I look okay?"
"You look beautiful Aud but something seems to be missing."
Missing?
"The final part of the outfit to complete the look. Kendra and I just can't seem to figure out what it is."
They started to circle me, like two hungry sharks swimming around their breakfast.

"I GOT IT!" Lenna squealed.
"Jeez did you have to scream? That's the loudest I have ever heard you though."
"Sorry Audrey but I know what's missing."
"What is it?"
"It's a crown."
A crown? What?
"That's it Lenna! I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner!"
"Hold on a second... A crown? I ain't wearing a crown. I may be Lucas' mate but I'm not royalty."
The twins both opened their mouths to speak but before a sound could escape their mouths a voice sounds through the room, startling me.
"You're right. You're not royalty. Yet."
I turn around to see Lucas' mom, Adrian, and...
Luna Adaline?
"Hello dear. You didn't think I would miss this do you?"
I race toward Adaline and envelope her in a hug. How I missed her. I had asked Lucas how she was and he always answered that she was safe and unharmed but left it at that. He hated talking about my old pack, it always ended up with him mad and sad at the same time.
"How did you know? How did you get here?"
"Well I do live here now so how couldn't I know about it? It's all anyone talks about."
She lives here? As in she lives in the pack house?
"What about Rapid River? What about all of them?"
Adeline just smiles and shakes her head.
"Your mate took over the pack and made one of his top warriors Alpha and his mate. Their names are Kane and Donna I think. Very sweet people. Now enough about that. We need to finish getting you ready so you can meet the pack."
Sofia is the one that speaks next whilst Adrian just smiles enthusiastically.
"I agree with Adaline. Now let's get you to the vault so we can pick out your crown."
So that's how I end up underneath the pack house in a room full of priceless jewels.
"Pick whatever crown or tiara you want to wear tonight." Adrian speaks up, even though it's more of a squeal then a normal statement.
"I-I... I don't think I should..."
"Oh come on Audrey! You are to be Queen soon and you gotta look the part! So choose!"
"Okay! Okay! So pushy lil sis!"
I walk around the room admiring all the jewels.
Some small, some larger then my fist. Some refined, some look like they were picked from the ground and immediately made into jewelry.
I walk around the room once, twice, and a third time. Unsure of which one to pick when my eyes stick on a piece and I know that's the one I need to wear.
A lot simpler then all the rest of the tiaras and I somehow felt drawn to it. A beautiful pattern of diamonds twisting underneath each other with almost unnoticeable crescent moons line the entire piece. I pick the tiara up, and become startled when Luna Sofia yells out.
"CAREFUL! DON'T TOUCH IT!"
I instantly place the crown back where it was and go to apologize when Sofia starts speaking again but in a voice laced with curiosity.
"Interesting choice Audrey. No one has worn that tiara since the first queen, according to legend. Some say that-"
Sofia was caught off by Adrian exclaiming, "Let me tell her! Let me tell her!"
"Okay A, but it's rude to interrupt. Especially your mother."
"Yes mama, Sorry."
"It's alright. Continue."
"So according to legend that was the first Queen Luna's tiara. The King and Queen had received it as a gift from the Moon Goddess herself, as a present for combining their kingdoms and loving each other as the first real mates. The Moon Goddess said that only a true Queen would be able to wear it and that if they were worthy they would feel drawn to it. Some past queens have tried to wear it but as they touch it, they feel a burning pain, causing severe burns wherever the tiara made contact with them. This story had become a legend as the years passes along, only the royal family know that it's true."
"It didn't burn me when I picked it up..." I reply in barely a whisper.
"I CALLED IT! Dustin owes me 100 bucks!"
"Adrian Harper! Enough!"
"Sorry mama."
Adrian looks down at her shoes, with a frown on her face.
"Hold on a second. Just hold on. You guys are saying that I'm somehow a 'true queen' and that's why I could hold the tiara. AND Adrian you say you made a BET with Dustin on it? You saY you KNEW? This is crazy!"
"I know it's a little crazy dear but it's true. Besides you didn't get burned and that is proof in itself. It I were to touch it I would develop third degree burns on my hands, no matter how much fabric separated my skin from it."
"Anyhow that's the one you picked so that's the one you will wear! Let's get back to the house before Lucas freaks out that you aren't their."
We make our way back to the house and up to Lucas' and I's room were Kendra and Lenna use a levitation spell to get the crown on my head. As they did this I learned that the twins are elemental hybrids, meaning their normal powers have to do with the elements. Kendra can control fire and Lenna can control water. Apparently there are others like them and whatever element they can control represents their personality.
After the crown is placed on my head, everyone compliments how I look and leave the room.
Ten minutes later and Adrian knocks on the door.
"Lucas is downstairs. Are you ready?"
"Ready or not, here we go."
Adrian leaves the room and I follow after her.
Walking down the staircase I see Lucas standing in a black suit with a matching blue tie.
The second Lucas looks at me we lock eyes and don't look away the entire time it takes for me to descend the stairs.
"Wow"
A blush starts to blossom on my cheeks from Lucas' appraisal.
"You look extraordinary baby girl. Is that the enchanted tiara?"
"Y-yeah... I can take it off if you want."
"No I love it. I just can't believe that you can wear it. I mean I knew you would be an amazing queen, but knowing you are a True Queen is crazy."
I just look at Lucas. His hair is styled yet still slightly messy. His suit clings to him like a second skin, showing his amazing muscles.
As I continue to admire my mate a piece of hair falls onto his forehead. I immediately push it off and back onto the top of his head.
"Thank you baby girl. Are you ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be."
Lucas chuckles, kisses my forehead and leads me out the door with his arm wrapped around my waist.
Ready or not. Here we go.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
