《Unveiling the Arcane》Sage

The next morning the guys and I were in the kitchen making bowls of cereal for breakfast. We had decided not to go to the cafeteria today. I was sitting at the table with my bowl when Sawyer came in wearing a skirt and knee-high socks. It wasn't so jarring since he was wearing a girl's face and shorter than me. "What should I call you when you're like this?" I asked him.
He shrugged sitting down at the table across from me, "Just call me Rowan all the time. It's my first name."
I nodded, "At least you have a gender-neutral name." I supplied with a shrug.
He nodded it's a shapeshifter thing. We name our children so that their name can fit any form they may take."
"That makes sense I guess," I admitted.
Rowan's shoulders tensed; turning to see what had gotten their attention I saw Maddox walking into the room he placed a coffee cup before me before sitting in the seat next to mine with his own bowl of cereal. I picked up the cup and took a sip. It was perfect. Two tablespoons of half and half and two teaspoons of sugar. "Thank you," I said bumping my shoulder into his.
Maddox leaned against me for a moment before eating his own cereal. I knew we would have to go to the dining hall for lunch the guys needed a lot more protein than I did. They would probably be starving in an hour or two. It made me feel warm and fuzzy knowing they were doing this for me at their own sacrifice. I also felt guilty for those thoughts. After I finished my cereal and the other guys had taken their seats around the table I leaned back into Maddox wondering if I could convince the guys to get into a cuddle pile on the couch. I glanced over my bonded men and sighed softly looking at the only one in our group that wasn't bonded yet. I wondered if I would have to tie him down to get his mark onto my wrist. Maddox reached up brushing his hand through my hair. "So..." Rowan broke the silence glancing over each of us. "I've got your schedules; I'll be jumping into all of Sage's classes since she's the priority. Try to stick together as often as you can a lot of you have classes together so try walking to and from class together. It's better to have each other's backs." Rowan explained.
We all nodded in agreement. He? She? Turned their eyes to me, "You have an appointment after lunch at the clinic for your blood test." I nodded in understanding.
I looked back towards the guys my eyes stopping on Maddox's wrist. His sleeve was pushed up to the middle of his forearms. I had never paid much attention to how often Maddox did that. Thinking back, I realized that he always wore his shirt like that. "Maddox, your sleeve is pushed up."

He looked down before giving me a sheepish look and pushing them down. He fixed them before using his hands to communicate, "Sorry I didn't even realize I had done that." He explained.
I sighed, "That's what I was afraid of."
Rowan studied us for a moment before saying anything, "He can't talk?"
I glared at him before shaking my head. Maddox was a big guy but something about him just made me want to protect him from everything even Rowan when he looked like an itty-bitty girl. "It's okay, a lot of people don't trust my species." Maddox signed.
I scoffed, "I don't care if they have a reason or not. You're a big sweetie pie and if you won't eat the souls of those who are mean to you I will." I scowled at Rowan.
The other guys chuckled but Maddox leaned into me and purred. The gentle humming sound calmed my anger and I relaxed into his side. I grumbled under my breath before taking a deep breath. "Maddox has morals. Be nice to him or I will get mad. I've already got along list of people to murder and don't want to add you to it. Which reminds me," I glanced over at Maddox and the other guys, "When do I get to meet parents?"
Caden smirked, "Winter break is coming up we can make the rounds then, but then you also have to let the cat out of the bag with your mother." He countered.
I frowned. "Fine. I'll tell her after school today."
They all smirked. I rolled my eyes but I wasn't mad I knew I needed the push to talk to my mom. "You're just doing it then because you have work right after school and can get off the phone quickly." Aiden laughed.
I frowned at him upset that the only thing I had to throw at him was a spoon. "Fine. That's why I'm doing it." I admitted.
Dante shook his head at us looking down at his watch. "We've got to get going."
We all got to our feet and hurried from the cabin. The twins each had an arm around me on either side as we walked towards the school. Maddox walked behind and Dante in the front. Rowan followed at a bit of a distance behind Maddox. It made sense to seem like he didn't really know us. Dante and Maddox split off going towards their own class while the twins, Rowan, and I walked towards our first period.
English was normal though there was some whispering because of the new student. Some people tried to talk to Rowan, but she acted like a meek shy girl and barely said anything back. Soon enough people seemed to forget that she was even there. I had finally decided to think of Rowan as a girl when she was shaped like a girl and a boy when he was shaped like a boy. It seemed less complicated than going back and forth in my mind.

It wasn't until lunch that we had any issues. When we got to our normal table with the guys there was a present on top. If that hadn't been clearly for me there was a tag on the bow with my name written in red pen. I groaned before taking a step forward, but Rowan threw her arm out across my chest stopping me from approaching. She walked towards the box and pulled the lid off in full view of the other students. She stepped back and gestured for the rest of us to approach. We did and I gasped peering into the box. It was two little devil toys one black and one green with little, tiny nooses tied around their necks.
This was the second threat directed at my guys and I was about sick of it. A ripping sound could be heard throughout the entire dining hall. I hung my head as the guys closed ranks around me. Each placed a hand on my skin to calm me. I had never lost control like this outside of the bedroom. My wings had mostly listened to me since they had first appeared. "Shh, pull them back in. It's okay." Dante murmured to me.
I listened retracting my wings before leaning into him. He wrapped an arm around me keeping his chest to my back. The fabric of his shirt rubbed against the scars which were super sensitive after my wings had just been out. I groaned my core clenching even though I knew this was a terrible time to get turned on. Dante took a step back, so he wasn't pressed to my skin anymore which was a good thing but also made me upset. I wanted to claim him so bad it hurt. There was no making Dante do something he didn't want to do though. He would be mine when he chose to be mine. "I'm not hungry anymore," I spoke.
The twins nodded at me. Each grabbing one of my hands. I watched in shock as Maddox pushed his sleeves up to the middle of his forearms in his nervous habit. A gasp sounded throughout the room. I groaned. "I want to go back home," I grunted.
"We need to go get your blood taken first then we can go back. I'll call the principal when we get back to the cabin." Rowan said picking up the box from the table and replacing the box.
I nodded in agreement even though I didn't think the principal would do anything after the last time he had been called. He had acted like he couldn't be bothered with the issues. We all followed behind Rowan as she led us toward the clinic without any of us saying anything. Maddox gave me an apologetic look after we got into the hallway alone. I smiled over at him, "It's okay. They would have found out soon anyway if we're having me registered anyway." I reassured him.
That made him feel a little better. If I couldn't tell by his emotions, I would have been able to tell by the way his shoulders loosened, and his steps became lighter. I was kind of glad that it would all come out into the open. I was terrible at keeping secrets and I really hated wearing long sleeves at gym. The twins never complained but I could tell they hated it too from how much they sweated now. Once out in the hall, Dante pulled off his blazer and draped it over my shoulders. I would need to buy a new one to replace the one I had just ruined. Good thing the school store opened before classes. I could grab one early tomorrow morning.
We all walked into the clinic and a nurse came over to put me into one of those oversized chairs with wide armrests for blood work. I pushed the sleeve up on the side she had sat down on not caring that it revealed my binding marks. The nurse stared at them for a few moments before seeming to snap out of it. "Okay, it'll just be a little pinch." She said before unwrapping the needle and vial with the practiced speed of a seasoned professional.
In a few moments, I was standing from the chair with a cotton swap wrapped in the crook of my elbow. "It should be healed in a few more seconds." The nurse reassured me.
I nodded my head, "Thanks." I smiled at her gratefully.
She smiled back, "You should receive a phone call with your results in a couple of hours."
I waved goodbye before following most of the guys back out into the hall. Caden approached from the right with a bag in his hand from the school store. He handed it off to me. "Here."
I took the bag and looked inside to find a school uniform shirt and blazer. I threw my arms around his neck. "Thank you," I murmured.
He hugged me back, "As much as I would love to steal all of the credit, it was Dante's idea."
I smiled up at Dante too. "Thank you."
I held my arms out for him asking if he wanted a hug too. He took it; closing his arms around me for a moment before directing me to follow everyone back to the cabin again. I felt guilty for missing so many classes, but I wasn't behind at all and had been able to turn in all of my assignments through the online portal. The guys kept telling me that, but it didn't make me feel any better about keeping them from class.
