《Unveiling the Arcane》Sage

I was out on the floor cleaning off tables after the morning rush. The night before I had fallen asleep in the twin's room and nobody had woken me to send me to my room. It was lucky I had already had my alarm set or I would have been late. I wasn't really complaining it had been the best night of sleep I had ever gotten. Maddox had been fast asleep beneath me when my alarm blared. Dante grumbled and turned away from his position with his arm around Maddox and me. For some reason, I never would have thought that Dante would be a cuddler. I tried to push the thoughts away. Having the kind of feelings, I was having for my new friend was not okay.
My contribution to today's playlist came on over the speakers. I smiled when the familiar words of Green Day's Wake me When September Ends started to play. Softly I hummed under my breath before I started to sing the words. There were only a few people in the cafe so it wasn't like that many people could hear me. I knew I had a good singing voice though I had never used it for anything other than myself. At the last table, a guy who had been seated with what looked to be his date approached me. "Hey. I'm Adam." He smiled in a dazed way that made me wonder if he was on drugs.
"Sage," I said slowly wondering if I should have actually given him my name.
Though I realized if he was sober enough, he could have just read my nametag. He smiled at that. "Wanna go out with me sometime?" He asked.
I glanced over his shoulder at the girl who was still waiting at the table for him. "Aren't you here with that girl?" I questioned.
He nodded his head. "Yeah, that's my girlfriend."
I furrowed my head and tilted it to the side like that would help me understand. "You have a girlfriend. But you just asked me out." Nothing was a question, but Adam nodded relieved that I understood.
Still not understanding but not going to say yes either way I just had to ask, "Do you have an open relationship or something?"
"No." He answered.
"So, dating me would be cheating on her?" He nodded his head. "Umm, no thanks. You shouldn't cheat on someone that's really messed up."
"I can break up with her." He looked a little desperate.
"How long have you been together?" I asked, thinking it must be a new relationship and he was just an asshole.
"Two years." He responded.
My eyes widened. "This isn't happening. Sorry, not sorry. Go back to your girlfriend and treat her right." I told him.
"Yes of course whatever you say." He nodded his head in agreement like I was a queen giving her loyal subject orders.

He walked back to his girlfriend and must have said something right because she smiled at him with a flush on her cheeks. I watched as the couple left and I went ahead and cleaned off their table. Mandy had been in the back so there wasn't anyone there to witness the insanity aside from a few other groups and couples.
The day didn't get any saner. Within an hour of my ordeal, I was asked out by four other guys all from the same section. I was starting to wonder if there was some sort of bet or joke going on. After my shift, I pulled my phone out just as it vibrated. I checked the message as I walked toward my dorm.
Caden: Did you guys know that Dante was a cuddler?
It took a few minutes before there was any response.
Dante: I am not!
I smiled at the lie but wasn't expecting Caden's response to that. When the message came through my feet paused. A photo of me curled up on Maddox's chest with Dante's arm wrapped around us. His face was nuzzled into the bigger man's shoulder and a smile was on his lips. Maddox was awake giving who I assumed was Caden a disapproving look behind the camera.
Dante: You're an asshole.
I smirked before typing out a reply.
Sage: This one's going on the Christmas card.
Caden sent back a few laughing emojis while Dante let out a few expletives and threatened to do anatomically impossible things to Caden if anyone else ever saw that photo. Being the little shit I am, I saved it as my lock screen photo on my phone. I was meeting up with the guys after I changed. We were supposed to go out and do something, but Maddox had told us to go without him since he didn't feel good. So, we decided to go pester him until he felt better. I had even stopped at the school store before work to get him something to make him feel better.
In my room, I changed into a pair of soft leggings and an oversized tee-shirt. I walked over to the bed to slip on the new slippers Aiden had gotten me. As I pushed my other foot into squishy comfort, I noticed something. A black feather was half-tucked under my pillow. I had been finding the little feathers for years at random times. They just appeared and I wasn't sure where they were coming from. I picked up the soft downy feather to study it before putting it on my desk. I grabbed the bag with Maddox's gift and went to meet up with the guys.
They were already there by the time I arrived. Aiden let me in after I knocked on the door. Maddox was lounging in his bed looking like death. "How are you feeling?" I asked him.
"Terrible." He responded.
I held up the bag with a small smile, "I brought you something to make you feel better."

I gave him the bag and watched him expectantly until he reached into it. When he pulled a raven-shaped slipper from the bag everyone laughed. Maddox gave me a smile. The school mascot was a raven and on the side was the embroidered insignia of the school that we all had on our blazers. "Thank you," Maddox said and then he slipped his feet into the slippers and stuck his tongue out at the other guys. "She likes me the most." I smiled at that.
"What do you need to feel better?" I asked Maddox.
He frowned a bit. "I think I just need some rest."
Setting about my plan I place my phone face down on the end of the bed before sitting next to Maddox. "What do you want to eat for dinner?"
He shrugged. "Maybe some soup?"
I looked up at Dante who had laid down on the end of the bed. "Hey Dante, can you hand me my phone?" I gestured to it absentmindedly next to his hip.
He picked it up and froze. I tried to hide the smirk, but I failed. "Sage," Dante spoke in a deep commanding voice.
"Yes, cuddle buddy?" I managed to say in a serious tone.
Caden and Aiden both laughed at that making Dante's face go red. "It's not funny." Dante snapped.
This made the twins laugh even harder. "It's a cute photo." I smiled crawling down towards Dante.
I needed to get my phone before he thought to keep it. Snatching it out of his hand I smirked at the face he made. "Delete it." He ordered.
"Or what?" I leaned in a little closer, "Are you going to cuddle me to death?" Another bout of laughter from the twins set off Dante.
He struck fast grabbing me by the waist and flipping me over. Suddenly I found myself under him. His thighs straddled my hips, and my wrists were held high above my head in one of his hands. I had never been one to want to be held down like this but for some reason I just really wanted him to lean down and kiss me. Dante smirked down at me. He held my phone in his other hand as he used my face to unlock it. I watched with my lips slightly parted as he went and deleted the photo himself. "Next time I'll put you over my knee." He spoke directly in my ear.
A shiver ran down my spine and I couldn't contain the urge to rub my thighs together. "Yes sir," I replied in a husky voice.
I didn't know what made me want to call him that but seeing his reaction to it and the spark that lit his eyes I knew I wanted to do it again. "Shit." Aiden groaned.
Dante and I both looked up to see Aiden leaning against the wall. His eyes took a slight green glow. Caden took a step away from his brother. I wasn't sure if it was on purpose or not, but he stood between Aiden and the bed where the rest of us were. Dante didn't move an inch. He watched Aiden carefully as Aiden took deep breaths.
When Aiden looked back up his eyes were normal, and he frowned at his brother. His eyes met mine and he looked down at his feet. "Sorry, it's been a while since I've fed and I wasn't expecting the lust."
My face went bright red as everyone looked back towards the compromising position that Dante and I were still in. Dante, seeming to just now realize he was still on top of me let go of my wrists and rubbed them in his hand before letting go of me. I was almost sad when the weight of his body was gone from mine. Caden watched his brother for a moment before moving from his protective stance. "I wasn't going to hurt her." Aiden gritted out between clenched teeth.
Caden sat on the edge of the bed near me, "I don't know what to expect out of you anymore after last time." Caden looked away from Aiden.
Aiden grimaced before looking at me and then lowering his eyes. I sat up and looked over at Caden. "Is this about yesterday?" I asked him.
Caden nodded and Aiden gripped the hair at his temple like I had noticed him doing when he gets frustrated. I stood up and went over to Aiden. Pulling his hand away from his hair I waited until he looked at me. "I'm not mad. I know you weren't going to hurt me or touch me without my permission. I trust you." I pulled him over and he sat down next to Caden.
I gently kicked at Caden's shoe. "You know Aiden wouldn't have hurt me."
Caden nodded, "I know. I just get protective sometimes." He looked down at his hands clasped together in his lap.
"You can't own her, she's a person," Aiden spoke as if it was a repeated mantra.
Caden rolled his eyes before glaring at his brother and then his shoulders fell. "I know."
The twins smiled at each other, and I nodded in approval before snatching up my phone. "Okay now that everything is all taken care of, what does everyone want for dinner?" I started looking up the number for the restaurant I knew served soup and did delivery.
"What happened yesterday?" Dante asked.
I ignored his question and looked at the guys. They gave me their orders and then I looked back at Dante. We had a silent war of wills until he finally barked out his order, not at all happy.
