《Take My Broken Soul》CH 47- A Hospital or A Morgue

I don't know how long it's been since they guys left, but I can't stop pacing. The twins don't really know what's going on, but they know it's bad so they won't stop crying. Candace is in the kitchen cooking dinner to 'take her mind of things' or so she says. And Mouse is just sitting on the couch staring, worriedly at me.
I should be out there right now, helping my sister. But no, I had to go and get hurt in some stupid football game. What if something happens and I couldn't be there to stop it?
"Mouse. If you keep looking at me like I'm some helpless piece of glass, I'm going to break your arm." I growl out.
He says nothing, but stands to go join Candace in the kitchen. I limp a few more laps around the living room until I hear the engine of a car pull up. Running, well more like hobbling, over to the front door, I throw it open to see a distraught looking Tank getting out of a Taxi. I wait for a second to see if anyone else gets out, but no one does and the car drives off.
What's going on?
"Tank? Where's my sister? And Nate and Jingles?" I ask him.
His head snaps up at the sound of my voice and I see the blood smeared on his shirt along with his tear stained face. He says nothing, only walks by me into the house, calling for Mouse. I watch the two men talk and go to stand by Candace. She must see what I do because she grips my arm tightly.
"JOHNNY!" I snap out impatiently. Both heads turn to me.
"Where the hell is my sister?" I ask again.
"Wyatt. I'm sorry, man. We didn't get there in time. She was barely responsive when Nate and Keith took her to the hospital. I was with the police, so I don't know her current status." He says sadly.
No, no, no. This can't be happening. Not again.
"You're joking. Please, please tell me this is some sick prank." I plead out.
Candace is sobbing in Hayes' arms and Johnny takes a few steps to engulf me in a hug. I cry loudly into his shoulder as he just holds me. I feel 2 years old again, but I don't care. After a few minutes, I pull back and look into his face.
"Take me to her." I say sternly.

The ride to the hospital felt like days, when it was only a matter of minutes. Soon, I'm jumping out of the car before it's fully in park. I run into the lobby and my eyes scan the sea of patrons. I'm about to ask a nurse when I see Nate and Keith in two hospital chairs. I run over and they stand when they see me.

When I look at Nate, all the air is taken from my lungs. His shirt is covered in blood, along with his hands. All of it's dried and I just know that it's all from my sister.
Oh god.
I must look like I'm going to pass out because Nate rushes over and pulls me into a hug. My sobbing begins again and I can feel his silent shakes, alerting me of his tears as well. Keith rushes past me, probably to Candace, but nothing else really seems to matter. Soon, I hear Nate's broken voice.
"I'm sorry, man. I'm so fucking sorry I couldn't protect her." He says. We both pull back and I see his bloodshot eyes and tired looking face.
"Is she..." I start, but can't say the word. He just shakes his head.
"No. She's in surgery. She stopped breathing in the car, on the way here, but they got her back again. I haven't heard anything in about an hour." He says solemnly. I just nod my head and we walk over to the chairs.
Please don't take her too.

I look at the clock on the wall and see that it reads 1 a.m. After we all got here, the hospital moved us to a private waiting room. Laine's still in surgery and we haven't heard anymore updates.
I glance around and see Katie in Candace's arms, with Dylan laying his head on her legs. Keith has his arms wrapped around Candace and Wyatt is laying his head on his shoulder. Both Smith parents, Hal, and Jenni all stopped by, but had just left to go get coffees. The only ones awake are Nate, Mouse, Keith, and I. Knowing it's now or never, I stand and walk over to where Nate is sitting, motioning to the other guys to follow.
I don't know how Keith does it without waking anyone up, but he stands and walks over with Mouse close behind. When I reach my friend, he looks up with sad, broken eyes and I silently say for us to go in the next room. When everyone is in, I close the door and turn to the group.
"What's up Johnny? I really don't want to be gone incase the doctor comes back." Nate says hurriedly.
"I know, man. But I think you all need to see this." I say and bring out my phone.
"So, remember that red light we saw on the fireplace?" I ask and continue when the two who were there nod their heads.
"Well it turns out it was Lainey's phone. When the police got there, they took Dorian and got my statement. They didn't notice the light, so I went over and grabbed the phone. I looked at what was on it and took it to them for evidence, but before that I sent it to myself. I know, it's probably illegal but I figured you'd kill me if you found out about it and I hadn't shown you." I say and hesitantly hand my phone to Nate.

"What is it?" He asks, confused.
"The fucker videotaped everything. Good news is, he's screwed because that's evidence. Bad news is, Lainey was forced to make a video. And even worse, it's addressed to you and her siblings." I say.
Having already watched the video, I feel the bile beginning to rise in my throat again. Their confused looks go to one of anger and Nathan presses the video to play. As the sound starts, I watch their muscles clench and looks of pure rage cross their faces. That is until they get to the worst part and they all pale.

"Adelaine. Say hi to your family. They are going to miss you so much."
My fists clench at the sound of that fuckers' voice. I can't believe he filmed this. I'm going to kill him. I feel every muscle in my body tense as he moves towards her and then I watch as he takes out a knife and stabs her in the thigh.
Lainey lets out a loud scream and my face pales at the sight of her bleeding leg. Her uncle keeps talking, but I don't hear anything. I watch as he stabs, beats, and yells at her. He finally walks out of the room and I can see her move out of the ropes tying her to the chair.
A small sense of hope hits me, but I know it's not over. There's been no gun yet and no gunshots. Right as I think that, I watch Dorian come back into the room with the deathly metal object. He pulls her to the ground by her hair and then they are placed out of frame.
We can't see what happens but there's screaming, gunshots, and a struggle before I enter the house and turn on the light. I stop the video there because we all know what happened next. Looking up from the phone, I see all three guys pale and sick looking. I absently hand Tank his phone back and collapse on the ground.
The images of her being beaten and stabbed are seared into my mind. Her screams and cries for help are burned into my ears. Nothing will ever get those memories out of my head. Knowing she had to endure that and now she's fighting for her life in some hospital bed, is enough to have my blood boiling again.
"That fucker is dead." I growl out.
"I know Nate. The police have him and that tape, he'll get what he deserves." Keith tries to reason.
"What he deserves? He deserves to be burned alive and put 6 feet under ground. He doesn't deserve to be shacking it up in some cozy prison cell with your woman's abuser." I sneer at him. A muscle in his jaw ticks and his hands clench tighter.
"I know you're trying to deal with what you saw, but shut your mouth right now." He growls out.
I let out a sigh and work to untense my muscles. I take a few big breaths and scrub my hands down my face before turning back to my best friend.
"Shit man, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. I just. Jesus, I don't even know what to say." I sigh out, he only nods and untenses. After a few beats of silence I speak again.
"Wyatt never sees that video. Neither does Lainey, Candace, or the twins. We are the only ones, besides the jury and cops, who see it and we don't talk about it again. If Laine brings it up, then fine, but I know her and she wouldn't have wanted us to see that." I say sternly.
"Agreed." All three say at once.
We all kind of stand there shocked and still reeling as to what we just saw. I know if he was in front of me, I wouldn't hesitate to kill Dorian, but I'm not going to get that chance. Sure, I could find another way to get to him, but I just can't do that to Lainey.
If I kill him, then she loses another person in her life and I'll be damned if I'm the cause of her pain again. As much as I want, no need, revenge for what happened, I need her more. He'll get what's coming to him legally and I happen to know that prison guys, don't like child abusers. I have a feeling he won't last long, anyways.
We are interrupted by a loud yell coming from the waiting room.
"Oh my god."
The guys and I exchange a glance and then sprint back to see a crying Candace clutching Wyatt. Looking around for what caused the reaction, I see a doctor in bloodied scrubs standing by the door. My breath catches in my throat as I walk over to him.
Please, Please, Please.
He sees me and meets me halfway. I try to read his expression, but he just looks extremely tired. I know that blood is from Lainey and I can't stop my hands from shaking. We finally meet in the middle and he looks up into my eyes with a serious expression.
"Nathan O'Conner?" He asks. Not trusting my words, I just nod my head.
"I'm sorry, sir. We did all we could, but she had lost too much blood. The bullet was too deep and we couldn't....

8 184Shieldmaiden: Unbroken
An instant is all that's needed to change a persons life. A single encounter. A single desire can bring together many people to change the world. One thought. From the moment humanity began its course of self-destruction, there were those who desired to change the world for the better. To stop the harm to their planet, and themselves, a group of people came together and formed a world from their imaginations. They decided that humanity could not be a part of the world they would destroy, and would allow the world to recoup. They would pull the people from their world in groups, and until everyone was gone, every month more people would be brought to this new world. An unfamiliar world. An unfamiliar people. An unfamiliar system. I never expected to write a LITRPG, or an Isekai, and I'm not confident I can do it well, but I liked writing the first chapters, so I'm gonna try my best! Also, I don't recommend reading it on mobile.
