《Accidental Nikkah》CHAPTER 58

The stars are not always visible in the night sky, but when we notice any one visible star, it subconsciously makes us happy.

Ruhee got home and showed her parents the beautiful ring Aayan had gifted her. Of course she didn't tell them that he proposed to her, that would be too much, 'He didn't have to buy such an expensive ring?' Ruhee's mother says. Ruhee also thought the same. She wanted to tell Aayan that, but they were so happy in the moment, she didn't wanna ruin it, 'Oh c'mon. When will women stop seeing the price tag and see the affection?' Ruhee's father joked, which got him a glare from his wife. Ruhee smiled at them. Ruhee's parents were the ultimate couple goals for her, one moment fighting and arguing, and the other moment all lovey-dovey.

I think all the children couple goals are their parents.

Ruhee enters her room and sees her brother busy working in his laptop. She places her bag down goes to stand next to him. He didn't notice her but she stood there until he did. Ian let's out a big sign and looks towards his sister to have a big grin on her face, 'What!?' he asks, getting annoyed. Ruhee quickly shows him her left hand. He looks at her hand and frowns, 'You burnt your finger again?' he asks. Ruhee scowls at him and shows him the ring finger, 'Did Ammi finally find you responsible enough to not lose a ring?' he says. Ruhee inhales deeply, 'I can never expect proper words from you, can I?' Ruhee asks, and Ian shakes his head in a "No".

'Yeah Yeah. I figured.' Ruhee says, and continues, 'Aayan proposed to me.' with utter excitement. Ian stares at her for a moment longer and says, 'You are already married yet, you're getting married again, and then he also proposes to his wife who is also gonna be his would be wife. Wow, you're husband is on a role.' he goes back to working. Ruhee scowls at him again and walks away. She knows internally he is very happy for her, but showing appreciation to a sister is like asking a brother to keep his room clean.

I mean, he is not going to die if he says some good things to me. Or is he?

Around dinner time, Ruhee was busy in her room doing her college work when her mother calls her. She goes out to see her aunt from Riyadh on video call. She happily goes and takes her dads mobile from his hand and says, 'Hey Phupi!' Her Elder Aunt, Jania, softly laughs at her energy and says, 'Hey dear. How is my would be bride doing?' Ruhee grins at her and says, 'I am doing good, and I'll be doing even more good if you would come for my wedding.' Ruhee saddens at the end. Her aunt frowns on the screen and taps her chin, 'Now, I wouldn't want my little niece to be just feeling good on her wedding, now would I?' her aunt says and Ruhee nods with a pout. Her aunt laughs and says, 'Then cheer up little one. We are coming to your wedding.'

Ruhee gives her a confused look and her aunt continues, 'We were able to book our tickets just a week before your wedding date. Which means we can enjoy your wedding.' Ruhee's frown doesn't take time to flip into a smile. Ruhee starts bouncing in her seat happily. Happy was not enough to describe her happiness. She spoke to her aunt a little longer and then ran into her room to call Aayan. While she was speaking to Aayan, she told him how she still wished her uncle could make it, just then her mother called her for dinner, so she cut the call.

Next morning, Ruhee was seated between her friends in college and talking normally when Afza asked, 'Are you not going to tell the class you are engaged?' Ruhee looked around her class. Her entire class had an incredible bond with each other. She wanted to tell them, but she was feeling very shy, 'I would love to, but I am feeling really very shy.' Ruhee says to her friends, 'Oh c'mon. We will stand with you.' Jian says, 'Yeah.' Aina urges aswell. Soon, the girls drag Ruhee to stand before her class. As the four girls assemble before them, Ruhee's classmates give them their attention.

'Girls, Ruhee has an announcement to make.' Afza yells out. They all now stare at Ruhee. Ruhee looks back at her friends and becomes incredibly shy. She has been before them before, but as their department president or friend or representative, but never as Aayan's fiancee. Ruhee takes a deep breath in and says,

'I am engaged.'

But they seem to not have heard her, because apparently, she had said it in her head. Ruhee tries to hide behind Jian but she pulls her to the front again. Her classmates frown at the confident Ruhee's unusual behavior, 'C'mon Ruhee, spit it out.' one of her classmates yell and the others tag along. Ruhee looks at her friends and finally let's it out, 'I am engaged!' on hearing this, the entire class went immediately silent. Ruhee looked at them with anticipation when finally they all started hooting and congratulating her, 'Congrats Ruhee.' 'I want treat.' 'You are putting biriyani right,? At your wedding?' one of her non Muslim friend asks. Ruhee just laughs at her friends as they trample her with endearments.

Ruhee goes home happy but she did not know, that an even happier announcement was waiting for her. She enters her home and her father calls her and says, 'Ruhee, seems like you are gonna have the entire family at your wedding.' Ruhee looks confused at her father and he continues, 'Your thayba had called awhile ago, and informed me that he will be attending your wedding with his family as well.' her father smiles at her. Ruhee was shocked, 'How? Did his company allow?' she asks, 'Apparently, it seems like his company is the one sending him here.' Ruhee didn't get what her father meant, 'His company was going to send someone over to India to deal with some company, and they chose him. And his arrival is three days before your wedding and departure the next day.' Her father explains.

Ruhee just stares at her father as he explains to her. A small smile soon graces her lips and her eyes had become a bit moist. Her father just smiles at her reaction. She gives her father a big hug and says, 'Now, it feels like I am getting married.' with tear stained eyes. Ruhee's father smiles at her and she runs into her room making a call. The person picks it up, 'It was you, wasn't it?' she asks immediately, 'What?' Aayan asks on the other line, 'You did something so that thayba could make it to our wedding, right? That's why you asked were he worked? Right?' Ruhee asks again, 'I don't know what you are talking about. I just asked it.' Aayan tries to hide the fact, but Ruhee knew it was him.

Ruhee saw her brother preparing something yesterday in his laptop and she was sure it was related to Hoscum Pookers, and Ian works for Aayan. Aayan still didn't agree and that made Ruhee smile. He didn't want her to know that it was his doing, he just did it to make her happy, and she was so happy that her eyes had welled up. She inhaled deeply and spoke softy, 'Aayan, Thank you.' 'Oh Ruhee, but I didn't do it you know. We might work with them but....' he was interrupted in between, 'And Aayan...' Ruhee started softly smiling, 'I love you.' Aayan stopped in between when he heard that, and Ruhee knew that affected him, 'Wha.. What did you say?' he asks, in a low voice, 'I love you.' Ruhee repeated for him.

'Well, I guess I can take credit for some of it.' Aayan says, after a moment longer, breathless. Ruhee laughs softly at him and they spoke for a little longer and cut the call. Ruhee looked at her blank screen and smiled. A frown etched her forehead when she saw a text pop up in her class group chat. She opened it to read the text, and her eyes widened.

They want his picture?

Ruhee knew her classmates would be curious to find out who she was getting married to, but she never imagined they would ask for a picture. Ruhee quickly opened her gallery and searched for a picture of Aayan, but she didn't have any. She was disappointed that she didn't have a single picture of her husband or together with him. So when she typed she didn't have any in the group, the chat box blew. 'What do you mean you have no pics with him?' 'You don't have single pic of your fiance?' 'How did you like him with out a pic?' 'Are being forced, Ruhee?' 'Maybe her family is just too pious to not have taken pictures.' 'Oh shut up. If you're being forced, Ruhee. Let us know, we'll stand with you, always.' 'Yeah!!'

Ruhee signed. She was happy that her friends were being supportive and standing with her, but the problem is, it is for the wrong cause. So, Ruhee sent a text that cleared that she wasn't being forced, just that she didn't have any pic. The chat box died down, but she knew they would be back for a pic again. She took note to take a photo with him. She paused for a moment and thought.

Aayan has done such a big thing to make me happy. I need to do something to make him happy aswell, but what?

So she asked the most trusted people, her three friends.

Afza - That's so sweet of him.

Aina - You got damn lucky babes.

Jian - People, she knows she is lucky and he is super sweet, that she might get diabetes.

Jian - Wait, she already has. I think Aayan might ruin your health.

Ruhee just shook her head at Jian's logic.

Afza - You can buy him a gift? A Tie maybe?

Nice idea.

Jian - The only thing that will make him happy is to near the wedding date. 😒

That's also true.

Aina - Why don't you take him for a picnic lunch?

Aina - He must be missing your packed lunches, and picnic will get him out of his office and also, gets to spend time with you.

That's brilliant.

Ruhee - And tomorrow is the last day of college, since from next week we have our semesters.

Ruhee - I can go to him after college tomorrow, and we can have a picnic lunch.

Ruhee - Yaay! Thanks Aina. You the best. 😘

Aina - 😎

Jian - 😒

Afza - 😂

After that, she texts Zubair, asking him to make sure Aayan doesn't go out for lunch. She shares her plan with him and he loved it. He also wanted some food, and Ruhee told him she was gonna bring him lunch even if he hadn't asked. She asked her parents permission and they agreed, of course because they were already married. Ruhee clapped happily with excitement.

Just can't wait for tomorrow.
