《Accidental Nikkah》CHAPTER 12

Rainbows are very hard to find once the rain clears. And it appears in the most unexpected times, and that's the thrill of it. On seeing the unexpected rainbow, we unknownly become happy.
And the current unexpected turn of events, was something Aayan didn't expect.
He was on his way to pick up Ruhee.
After they left Ruhee's house yesterday, Aayan asked his mother, what she spoke to Ruhee's parents. They were on their way home and Zubair, was also present in the car.
"I just twisted the story a bit." She said. Aayan rose an eyebrow at his mother.
She looks at her son through the rear view mirror in the car. "Instead of telling them that Ruhee had bunked college, and got married to you yesterday, I told them, she got married to you today, while attending one of your seminars. And the rest, you know."
"I don't know Ammi." Aayan said, looking straight ahead, driving.
"That you stood up for her in an argument and stuff, that you got chased and hid, had no choice but to agree for the nikkah, etc, etc." His mother said nonchalantly.
So what Aayan understood was, instead of meeting at McDonald's yesterday, they met at a seminar today, and the rest is the same. Just the place and day got changed.
Aayan was shocked to see how his mother handled the situation, but he couldn't get why she agreed for them to stay together. When he asked, all she said was "We are following the Sharia, simple." but Aayan didn't miss that suspicious smile on her face. Aayan signed.
Now I have to live with her for three months. I hope this ends soon. She makes me feel things I don't understand, and her near me everyday, Allah help me.
Aayan signs again, stopping his car in front of Ruhee's house. He gets out and looks at the building.
Let's go get my wife.
He enters the building and climbs to the second floor. He rings the door bell and Ruhee's sister opens the door with tears in her eyes. Aayan looks at her and smiles before saying "Hello".
Ruhee's sister frowns at him and let's him enter. Aayan entered the house, frowning. Ruhee's father greets him with a handshake. "Welcome Aayan, Ruhee will be out in a minute." saying this, he asks Aayan to take a seat, and moves to go to the room across the dining hall.
Aayan was not able to look at Ruhee's home yesterday, given the situation, so he looked around. The house was nice and homey.

Aayan looked to find Ruhee's sister glaring at him from behind the entrance to the dining room on the right.
What's with her?
Aayan motions her to come to him and she does. Sana was a 11 year old little girl. She comes and stands in front of him, looking to her feet. He holds her small hands in his big ones, this causes her to look at him. He smiles at her and asks softly "Did I do something to upset you?"
She nods her head still frowning. Aayan nods his head in understanding and asks her again, "Can you tell me what I did to upset you?" she opens her mouth and says in a low yet soft voice "You are taking my didi away from us."
Aayan looks at her and smiles "Will you miss her alot?" Aayan asks. She nods her head with a tear slipping from her eye. She quickly wipes it away. Aayan could see that she was attached to Ruhee alot.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of your sister, and bring her back safe and sound." Aayan says smiling at her. She looks at him and smiles.
Finally, she smiled.
Aayan smiled wider and looked at the direction Ruhee's father went, on seeing no one out yet, he looked at Sana and asked her," Tell me Sana, what is your sister like? " Sana looked at him and tilled her head to the side confused,"As in?" she asked.
"Like, how is she at home? To you? Your Ammi and Abbu? To bhaiya?" he asks. She nodded, understanding.
"Didi is very nice to me, but she is bossy at times, asking me to get her things for her. But she also bakes cakes and cookies for me, so that's okay. She always listens to Abba and Ammi. Scolds Abba when he does things not good for his health or misses his tablets. And when didi is at home, she cooks the meals, giving Ammi rest, but she has to cook dinner daily, it's her responsibility. She takes very good care of bhaiya, yells at him when he does wrong, gets him what he wants." Aayan was listening to Sana with a smile on his face.
So she normally is bossy, I see. And very caring. Looks like she loves her family alot.
"Oh, but didi is very careless of her health." This got Aayans attention. "What do you mean?" he asks frowning.

"Well, didi doesn't really take good care of her health. Ammi and Abba always yell at her for that. She doesn't eat properly at times and when she does, she eats alot. She doesn't take her medicines on time, for the past few years she is fine, or else she would atleast get admitted in the hospital, twice a year." Sana said showing two fingers.
When Aayan found out that Ruhee was diabetic, he was stunned. From that moment on, he kept only thinking about that.
For the past 12 years, means when she was 7 years old. She was still so young. And not being able to eat sweets at that age is hard.
After he reached home, he did his own research on diabetes. He found out there are two types, type 1, which mostly occurs in kids, where the beta cells in the pancreas stop functioning. Type 2, which occurs in elders, due to weakness and aging.
Type 1 looked alot serious then type 2, and type 1 required taking insulin shots, everytime the patient ate anything.
Using needles daily, multiple times, at that age, when a kid fears needles the most, must have been scary.
Aayan looked at Sana with a serious expression, "Don't worry Sana, I'll take good care of your sisters health aswell." and he inquires with Sana more related to Ruhee's health, how many times she takes her shots, and her eating habits, etc.
Damn, she is super careless.
Just then, Ruhee's father walks in, with everyone following behind, even Ruhee, but Aayan couldn't see her clearly as she was hiding behind her father. Ian drags out three briefcases and places them near the door.
Ruhee's father pulls her from behind him, to stand next to him. She still didn't look up at Aayan. "Please take good care of my daughter." her father says looking at Aayan softly.
"If you hurt my sister in anyway, I'll forget that you are my boss." Ian says, with a serious look.
"Ian!!" Ruhee's mother gives him a warning call, but Ian doesn't budge and stares at Aayan. Aayan just nods back at Ian in understanding.
"She is a very good daughter, hopefully, she will be a good wife aswell." her mother says, rubbing her head softly.
"Ugh, I am only going for three months, save these talks for when I am actually gone for good." Ruhee finally looks up and says, looking at her mother. But Aayan could notice how her eyes were also filled with tears, but she was keeping them in.
She finally looks at Aayan, and gives him a small smile. He returns back the smile." Shall we leave?" he asks looking at Ruhee, she nods and turns to hug her family. Sana runs over to Ruhee and hugs her stomach tightly, that's when a traitorous tear leaves Ruhee's eye. She pulls her away, going down to her knees looking at a tearful Sana.
"I am gone only for three months, baby...." she says wiping her tears. "..... Till then, you have to listen to Ammi - Abbu well, help Ammi with the chores, make sure Abba is taking his medicines and take care of bhaiya. If bhaiya is being too bossy, call me." Ruhee says, closing her three middle fingers to, make a phone with her hand and moving it near her ear.
She gets up and looks at everyone, one more time. Aayan takes one big and medium briefcase, and goes out the door saying his goodbyes. Ian carries the other big briefcase down, Ruhee follows them out of her house.
Aayan places the briefcases in the back trunk of his car and closes it. He shakes hand with Ian and motions for Ruhee to get in. She opens the front door, and looks back up at her family, watching them from the balcony. She waves at them with a smile and gets in.
Aayan fastens his seat belt and looks at Ruhee, she was wiping her tears.
She needs to wear her seat belt but how do I tell her? With your mouth, idiot.
"Seat belt" he says looking ahead. Ruhee looks at him with a tear stained face and frowns "Huh?" is all she says.
Aayan signs and removes his seat belt, moves towards her and takes her seat belt in hand, and turns to look at her, looking at him with wide eyes. They just stare at each other for a moment.
Aayan forcefully looks away first, fastens her seat belt and settles back in his seat. He fastens his seat belt next. "Thank you." comes Ruhee's meek voice. He looks at her, to see her looking at her fidgeting fingers.
He just nods his head and starts the car. He holds the steering wheel and looks ahead.
Let's go home.

Beatrice Santello
An adult imagining of Beatrice Santello's life prior to the events of Night in the Woods. There are no explicit depictions of sex here, though there are obviously adult themes and situations involving it. I wasn't going to post it to Royalroad as I didn't think Fanfiction was okay here - but now I see it is and I am quite convinced it is the best work I've ever done yet, I've got to see what any fans of NitW think about it! The first chapter was originally written as a short vignette and wasn't intended to be continued into a full blown story. It was just intended to be moody and evocative. Even though anyone that has played Night in the Woods has a good idea how this must end, I hope it will still be worth the read. Also, since I've finished writing it, I'm going to post it as one big chapter dump all at once. Cover drawing by GreasyMojo and colored by me (with permission!). I don't think it should be too risque on it's own but I suppose I'll soon find out.
