《Mi Reina》Chapter Forty Nine - Protective

"No, no. I can walk on my own, Rico. You don't have to-" I stopped speaking mid-sentence when I was scooped into his arms, bridal style.

"Too late." He looked down at me.

Knowing that I couldn't change his mind, I rested my head on his shoulder and wrapped my arms around his neck finally feeling safe.

Once Rico had found Nico and I in the rain forest, he explained what had happened after we split up. Turns out, he was right about the boot prints found and that there were two men waiting for us there.

He managed to take them down, getting a hold of their satellite phones which are the only phones which work properly in a forest. Rico had called Toni with it, telling him to track the phone.

Fast forward to now, we reached back home to Spain safely and got out of the helicopter. Since Antonio as well Julian came along, I didn't have to worry much about taking care of Nico because I knew they would.

It had to be about 2:00 AM right now and because he hadn't gotten enough sleep than usual, he was cranky the whole flight here.

"Are you sure that it's just a sprain?" Julian asked me over the sound of helicopter blades whirring, while he walked right next to Rico.

"I think it is." I said, with uncertainty trying to move my ankle that now looked a little bruised and swelled up.

"We'll have to go to the doctor to check that out, Xi. I'm not taking any chances here." Toni butted in who had a sleeping Nico in his arms.

Yeah, that boy loves to sleep. I mean, who doesn't? Not me, for sure.

"Okay, then. First stop: to the warehouse." Rico announced while we got closer to the car.

"Warehouse?" I questioned.

"We have our own doctor there because we can't risk exposing out identities." Julian stated.

"That makes sense." I thought out loud.

"It doesn't just make cents, it makes dollars." Toni said, trying to make a pun out of it to which only I laughed while the other two men rolled their eyes.

Looking at the clock that hung on the wall that read 9:00 AM, I sighed and sat up on the couch that I had been sleeping on.

When we had gone to the doctor earlier, she said that my ankle was, in fact, strained because I slipped on one of the rocks. She advised bed rest for a minimum of three weeks and I understood that it had to heal but I was more worried about the people after us.

First, they attacked at the park on the day that I met Rico, then probably killed Adrian's mother, had the guts to kidnap a four year old boy and then from nowhere Devon was forced by someone to kill Lorenzo and then wanted to kidnap me.

I still don't know where the safest place for Nico is. It's not Rico's house because I still can't trust Devon, can't be my apartment because they probably know where I live too and it can't be this warehouse that we currently are in for too long.

This place isn't much like a workplace; it's more like a house. Except for the fact that there is a shooting range and a room for all Rico's men to work, it has the layout of a house. There is a room for Rico, a bathroom, a living room and even a kitchen.

I slept for a while for the last few hours and then watched TV for a while. Right now, Toni and Julian weren't around because they went searching for those butt-heads who attacked us during the flight.

Shaking the thoughts out of my mind, I tried to stand up but almost immediately felt a sting of pain in my ankle which caused me to lose my balance and before I could trip, Rico held me by winding an arm around my waist.

Jeez, how was he even on time? Who is he, The Flash ?

"Are you alright?" He asked worriedly.

"I'm fine. I just wanted to walk-" I said, before I was very rudely interrupted by him.

"Dr. Sarah specifically said not to exert yourself by walking." He stated, referring to the doctor's instructions.

"I know, I know. I just wanted to make breakfast for Nico because he normally wakes up at this time." I tried explaining myself.

"Look, I get that you love Nico and that you want to take care of him but don't neglect yourself." He almost pleaded, holding my face with the palm of one of his hands.

"But he likes pancakes." I tried reasoning with him.

"I'll make breakfast for him then." He said. "They might not be as good as the ones you make but they're something."

"Okay. I'll help you." I smiled.

"Nope." He denied, making me sit on the couch behind me. "You will sit here and wait for me to finish cooking them."

"But Rico-" I whined, feeling like I was turning into a child all of a sudden.

"Good morninnnnggg!" Nico greeted, skipping into the living room.

"Morning! Could you do me a favor, Buddy?" Rico asked his son.

"Yes, Dadda?"

"Sit on her for a while and don't let her get up." He said, pointing to me. "If she tries to get up, you are allowed to tickle her."

"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

And before I could say anything further, Nico jumped onto the couch. He sat on me, yes, on me and wrapped his arms around my neck.

"Hello, Momma." He kissed my cheek.

"Hey, love. Did you sleep well?" I hugged him, content at the fact that we was safe in my arms.

"Yes and I even had a dream." He replied.

"Oh, really? What was it about?" I asked, running my fingers through his curly hair.

"I had a dream where me, you and Dadda were playing in the park and there was a little girl who wanted to play with you but I didn't let her." He explained.

"Why didn't you?" I held his shoulders and gently pulled him away from me, wanting to see his face.

"Because you are MY Momma." He emphasized on the word 'my'. "And then maybe you will like her more than me."

Oh, my. This little boy is getting protective over me...somehow like his father.

"Honey, I want you to know that I would never feel that way." I kissed his forehead. "No matter how many children I play with, I will never stop loving you. Nobody can stop me from loving my little jellybean, alright? Don't ever think like that."

"You promise?" He held up his pinky finger. "Pinky promise?"

I smiled, interlocking my little finger with his. "Pinky promise."
