《Mi Reina》Chapter Thirty Five - Pattern

"The dweeb is here!" I shouted when I opened the front door.

"Hey! I'm not just a dweeb." Callum argued, entering the house. "I'm a handsome dweeb."

"You're well aware that you just called yourself a dweeb, right?" I asked, not being able to contain my smile. I closed the door behind me and stood, waiting for his answer.

He turned around, scrunching his eyebrows in confusion, "I did, didn't I?"

And this is the Mexican mafia's tech guy. Oh, wow. That's nice.

"Okay, I'm here." Rico's voice was heard from behind Callum.

I craned my neck to see him and oh...wow. He was dressed up in an impeccably crisp jet black Armani suit. His hair was neatly styled in a way that there wasn't even a strand peeking out. When I had first looked into his dark brown eyes, I felt an intimidating gaze, a dangerous person someone intriguing.

But now, I don't see just that. There's a part of him who is a kind and loving person; a father to his son, a hardworking man. I see it now.

"What did you want to discuss about?" Rico asked, walking closer.

"I'll tell you soon." He replied, unlocking his iPad. "Is Toni here yet?"

"He should be here in a minute or so." I said, knowing that he had replied to my text saying that he would.

"Oh, okay. We'll need to go to Ric's office for this." Callum informed, typing away on the device in his hands. I slightly peeked and caught a glimpse of the screen; the colors being a mix of green and black, zeroes and ones filled in an indefinite pattern which I assumed to be some binary code.

The three of us went to Rico's office and waited for to come. Recently, they've been including me in their discussions. They're mostly about the shipments of ammunition and all, which are boring might I add, but at times, they speak about the threats that I've been getting. Yup, there are new messages every single day.

It's really getting annoying more than scary nowadays. If they want to threaten me, they should do it in person rather than these threats...stupid ass motherfuckers. Okay, maybe I should calm myself down.

In the meantime, everything that had had happened in the last two weeks crossed my mind.

I had always wondered why they wouldn't talk anywhere else besides Rico's office and when I asked them, I understood why. Apparently, Rico's office isn't as normal as I thought. The room is soundproof and bulletproof. It had originally been built to use as a panic room but that didn't end up happening so it turned into an office.

There is also a pin-code that is supposed to be entered in order to be able to enter the room and the coolest part about it is that the code changes every hour. The only ones who know the codes are Rico, Antonio and Callum.

They asked me if I wanted access but I denied. I mean, what would I even need it for?

Coming to why I was afraid almost twenty-four seven; when I got that text message on that day, I immediately told Rico about it. He called Callum as well as Antonio and told them what had happened. It was clear that it was Devon and nobody else who could do this due to the fact that Lorenzo was dead.

"I'm here." Toni opened the door, interrupting my train of thoughts.

"Alright." Callum stood up from his seat on the couch which gave space for Antonio to take a seat. He greeted us and let Callum talk who now stood in front of all of us, with his iPad in hand.

"As y'all know, we've been trying to track the device that keeps sending those threats for the last two weeks or so and since it's probably a burner phone, we can't track the location." He summarized.

We nodded, confused as to where this was going.

"I was doing some research and I found something. I was coding an algorithm to trace the signals from Xia's phone to the sender instead of the other way around and while I was doing so, I found a very weird pattern in the time of the messages and the content."

I could tell that the three of us were as confused as the other but none of us said anything.

"Look," he showed a screenshot of one of the messages that I had received a few days back. "the numbers repeat after every three days. It's 11:23 AM on Sunday, 4:18 AM on Monday and 11:23 AM again on Tuesday. This pattern has been the same for the last two weeks.

Now, this could very well be a coincidence but the timing is too specific. And since it was every third day, I took the number three. I calculated everything with three's; every third message, every third word and the third letter with a Sylvie, right here." He explained.

At this point, I seriously didn't know where this was going. Everything was going above my head. But I'm not going to lie, this seemed like some next level agent technology. And Sylvie is the name of his iPad, if you're wondering.

"They were all a random bunch of letters and being confused, I called Azalea, who is like my best friend. She is a really skilled hacker. You know, she once -"

"You're drifting away from the topic, Cal." Rico reminded him.

"Oh, yeah, right. So she said that it could be a hidden message or something. At first, I couldn't think of anything but then I realized that coordinates are fifteen digits long and if you add today's message too, you get a location. It's a café shop downtown. Do you think it makes sense? Wanna go?"

"Whose car are we taking?" Antonio asked, smirking at his brother.

I am still surprised at how he did all that..wow. I thought all of this happens only in movies, I didn't expect any of this.

"Xi, you coming?" Nio asked, seeing that I hadn't spoken in a while. I

"I'll come."
