《Mi Reina》Chapter Twenty Nine - Tracker

"It's not working." Callum stated, referring to the tracker that was embedded in Nico's necklace that I always made him wear.

Being the Don meant that it would be difficult to keep him safe from other rival mafias and in my arms at every second of every single day.

As soon as he said those words, I felt like my knees had buckled beneath them, my heartbeat speeding up.

"What do you mean by that? Why isn't it?" I asked.

"They probably changed the location of their warehouse. There isn't a strong range from where they are to where we are. They're too far away. " He explained, glancing at the screen in front of him from time to time.

I sighed, pressing down my frustration.

It had been nine hours since Nico had been taken. Nine hours since Antonio, Callum and I had been trying to find the location of Lorenzo's hideout.

We thought that we had it until a few hours back but when we reached there, it was empty. So now we're still trying to track Nico.

We're all a mess; I can't think straight because my son could be in a whole different country for all I know, Callum and Antonio are frustrated but they're trying to hide it for the sake of me. And finally, Xia. From the time that I came back to the mansion, she hasn't been talking much.

At first, she didn't eat anything. Her eyes were red, tears in her eyes whenever I went to her room but she wasn't crying.

She was trying to be strong. Even though she hasn't spent more than a month along with Nico, she's the most devastated by the situation.

Xia and Nico have a bond that I will never understand; he warmed up to her like they had known each other their whole lives. My eyes stung, tears threatening to fall.

My phone rang, pulling me out of my thoughts. Blinking the tears away, I accepted the call, ready to hear the voice of my father.

"Hola?" I spoke.

"Hijo, escuché lo que pasó. ¿Como lo llevas? " He asked, clearly worried.

"Nada está bien, papá. I can't think straight." I sighed.

"The tracker?" He questioned, switching languages.

"The tracker that was put in Nico's necklace isn't working because they're too far away; it's out of range." I explained, taking a seat on the couch in the living room, right opposite Callum, who was looking at the screen of his computer, almost hopelessly.

"Don't worry, Hijo . Everything will be fine." He consoled me. "We'll find him soon. I'll be there in a while."

"Yeah, I know." I smiled, thinking of Nico in my arms. "Come soon. Bye, love you."

"Bye." He ended and disconnected the call.

When I lifted my head up, I saw Callum and Antonio across me. They were looking behind me, their eyes as wide as saucers. Curious at what had gotten them all surprised, I turned around and I'm pretty sure that my jaw dropped to the floor.

Xia stood in the living room, looking different than the last time I had seen her in her room a few hours back. She had changed out of the baggy clothes and into a full black outfit; confidence oozing out of her. I looked at her and felt my eyes water due to the fact that I probably wasn't blinking.

She was wearing skintight black leather jumpsuit that fit her body like a glove. The soft curves of her petite body were evident now. Xia stood as tall, her soft gradient hair was now tied into a sleek ponytail, her makeup was...wait. She's not even wearing makeup but she's still gorgeous.

"I thought of something." She spoke up, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You said that the tracker wasn't working, right?"

I turned to Callum, he nodded in agreement.

Xia continued, "What if we track them by running facial recognition based on Nico's face?"

Antonio looked at her as if she had just said that she was an alien and so did Callum.

"Just think of it. They would all be careful of their faces by looking away from security cameras, trying to be hidden in the shadows but Nico wouldn't.

A few weeks back, when Nico and I were walking to the grocery store, we passed by a camera in the shop. He asked me what they were and I explained." She narrated.

"Ooookaaayy." Antonio dragged his word, confused at where this was going but I think I know where it is.

"I also told him to always look at them and smile because he could make someone's day without even knowing that he was." She added in a tone of hope.

"So he probably stared at all of them along the way. That could actually work, Xi." Antonio completed, rushing to the computer along with Callum to the dining table.

I turned to her, "That was a really smart idea."

She gave me a small smile, "Thanks."

"Um, why are you wearing that?" I asked her, once she took a seat next to me.

Oh, my! That vanilla scent from her hair drives me freaking crazy.

"This is the most agent like clothing that I could find in my closet." She stated.

"Yes, and?" I questioned, urging her to continue.

"And I'm coming with all of you when you find his location." Xia replied.

"You want to come with us? Where Lorenzo and Devon could be?" I asked, making sure to let her know what she was getting herself into.

"But it's also where Nico would be." She smiled. "I want to make sure that he comes back home safely."

"Home?" I questioned, just a little bit of happiness coming over over me.

She blushed a little. "Home." She repeated.

"It's not going to be unicorns and rainbows there." I stated, thinking of the horrible situations that I've ever been in the past.

"I know, Rico." She sighed. "I don't care about my safety at this point; I can handle myself."

"Okay, I'm not going to stop you from coming. But I need to know if you know how to fight? Or self defense, maybe?"

"Um, I know kung fu." She hesitatingly spoke.

"Alright, that's enough for you to take care of yourself if one of us is not around you; but you might not need it." I said, knowing that I wouldn't let anything happen to her.

"Here's a pocket knife." I said, removing the one that my abuelohad given me when he was alive. I had always kept it in my pocket. "You'll need a weapon, just to be on the safer side. It's better to be safe than sorry."

"Are you sure that you won't need it?" She asked, examining the knife that I had given her, in her hands.

"No, I won't." I smiled.

"We found him!" A voice exclaimed, Callum to be specific. The both of them came running to us along with a laptop.

"Xia was right. Nico looked at every security camera, making it easier for us to track him. We last found footage of him at a gas station." Antonio faced the laptop to us and there I saw my son being carried by one of Lorenzo's goons.

Nico looked the same; no bruises, no cuts, and nothing showed that he had been hurt. His face was red and eyes puffy probably due to the fact that he had been crying all along.

"We tracked they're car from then on and found only one possible location that they could be in." Callum continued. "They're in San Cristobal Fort."

"Let's go!" I announced, strapping my gun to the belt of my holster. "Xia's coming with us too."

They looked a little astonished but didn't say anything back. I knew that Xia could handle herself; she's strong and her own person but that would not stop me from protecting her and keeping her safe.

"Where do you think you're going without me?" My father's booming voice asked.

"San Cristobal Fort. You coming?" I replied, glad at the fact that he was here.

"Hell yeah! I'm bringing my grandson back home."

I smiled and soon, the five of us were on our way to am abandoned place in Spain.
