《Mi Reina》Chapter Twenty Eight - Mirth

"Ahh!" I yelped as I got pushed into the foam pit by a pair of hands. And let me tell you, it wasn't Nic because he was jumping on the trampoline in front of me.
I'mma whoop Rico's ass soon if he doesn't stop pushing me into every single pit in this huge room. We'd been playing in here for at least an hour and a half now, non-stop.
Since I had never been to a trampoline park before, I made sure to try and jump on everything in here. Except Nic, of course. And Rico? Oh, I jumped on him much more than twenty times.
Let's just say that he's getting payback now...
"Xia!" Nico shouted, while I tried, getting my head out of the pit. When I did, I climbed out of the pit and looked around, searching for the little boy.
"Nic?" I called out to him.
Silence.
"Nic! Where are you?" I asked again, worried.
Listening to me, Rico glanced at me too, wondering where his son could have been. So he started searching too.
"Yeah?" His voice was heard from under the ball pit.
"Oh my..." I sighed in relief, content that he wasn't missing.
I walked to him, picking him out. "Don't ever do that again, alright? I got so scared, Nic. I thought you got lost."
"Okay, I won't." He replied. I looked at him, thinking of how he had managed to wiggle himself into my heart. It was only then that I realized how attached I was to this child and how much he meant to me.
Nico kissed my cheek as his eyes twinkled with mirth. He gazed at me, a smile plucking at the corners of his mouth. Kissing him back on his forehead, he managed to get out of my hold and continued jumping around.

"Well, that was scary." Came Rico's voice from behind me.
"Yeah, it was." I said. I knew in the depths of my heart that I would never be able to live with myself if anything ever happened to Nic.
"Daddaaa!" A voice shouted, but now it wasn't in the same tone as before. It sounded like he was scared...afraid of what was happening.
"Where are you, Nico? Are you playing around again?" Rico shouted, worry evident in his voice.
"Nic?" I called out, searching around.
"Xiaaaa! Help!" Nic called out again. We couldn't see him but could only hear his voice.
My eyes landed onto a man running towards a door, I squinted a little to see better due to the fact that he was really far away from where Rico and I were standing. I saw a small figure humped in the arms of the man, arms failing around.
Nico...
Without wasting another second, I ran towards the other side of the room. Rico asked me where I was going but I didn't answer, being too occupied by running after the person. He didn't ask anything further, so I could only assume that he saw the man too.
The man increased his speed, running even faster than he was just a few seconds ago. Suddenly, he turned around shooting at us with a gun while he held Nic in his other arm. Yes, I saw the face. It's definitely Nic.
"Shit!" Rico shouted, pushing me down to the floor with him so now he was laying on the floor with me laying on top of him. "Stay down. I'll go after him, you go back to the mansion with one the guards; Antonio should already be there by the time you reach."

Our faces were only inches apart, causing my breath to quicken as he spoke.
"Oh, hell no!" I denied, trying to get off of him. "I have to get Nico. I'm not going back without him."
"I'll go after him, alright? Please listen to me, Xia. I can't lose both of you at the same time. Please." He pleaded, holding me down by my waist so that I couldn't sit up.
I nodded, quickly standing up while he did the same. I wanted to chase the man too but I decided against it because of what Rico just said.
I understood that if I chased the man too, it would Rico down because he would be busy trying to keep me safe and couldn't afford to have any distractions.
He ran a little while I just stood there, still baffled by the whole situation. I couldn't keep him safe. What kind of a person am I?
"Damn it! He got away." I heard him shout. He walked passed me, his body shaking with anger; he went to the guards who, I'm guessing, were called by one of the employees. He spoke to them, saying that a get away car just around the corner but they couldn't have gotten far and that they're car was a black SUV.
"Carlos is here." He told Ben, a guard. "Make sure that she gets back...home safely. If I see as little as a scratch on her, you better have your funeral planned by the time I'm back."
To say that I was astonished, would be the understatement of the century. I had never seen this side of Rico in the few weeks that I had been living with him.
"Take care." He told me, running out with the other bodyguards. I nodded, too crazed by fear.
Ben and I quickly got into the car and Carlos, Rico's driver, drove us back to the mansion where I saw Antonio sitting in the living room. As soon as I entered, he stood up from the couch and walked towards me, pulling me into an embrace.
"Don't worry, Xia. We'll get him back safely." Was all he said. I hugged him tighter, and whispered an 'okay'.
When we pulled away, I saw Callum standing in the living room with an iPad in his hand. He gave me a sad smile and hugged me, to which I reciprocated.
"Well, I know for sure that Lorenzo is behind this." Callum announced. "I checked the camera footage of the trampoline park and found his men in their signature balaclavas."
Hold up. Balaclavas? What if the man who threatened me in my car not more than a month back is associated with Lorenzo's men? What if he works for Lorenzo?
I explained that day to Antonio and Callum and they said that it could have been them due to the fact that they knew that Rico was the Don of the Mexican mafia.
Just then, Rico entered the mansion through the front door. He didn't the same as he did when I last saw him. Instead the white shirt that we wore was crumpled, covered in dirt and patches of...blood but I could tell that it wasn't his. He had a gun strapped to the holster of his belt; not even trying to be discreet about it.
"I lost them. They have Nico." He stated, rage searing through him.
