《Mi Reina》Chapter Twenty Five - French Toast

I felt something graze on my forehead while I was asleep but being the lazy ass that I am, I ignored it and cuddled closer to Nic whose body felt like it was completely on me; his hands were wound around me and mine around him.
Wait, if he is on me, then what's on my forehead? My eyes fluttered open and I was met with Nic's dark brown mop of hair in my face. He was still asleep so I happened to tilt my head and look upwards.
To my surprise, I saw Rico laying down on the bed along with us, his hand wrapped around Nic and I, and his face rested on my forehead. Oh, that explains the tickly feeling. It was the stubble on his jaw.
Carefully, I tried removing my head from under him but as soon as I tried doing so, his eyes shot open. He looked around the room and then settled his eyes on me.
"Good Morning, Dulzura ." He greeted in his groggy morning voice. And let me just say, the way he pronounced that last word sounded so....charming.
"Mmhm..." I hummed, aware of my morning breath.
"I see both of you had a sleepover last night." He whispered, looking at Nic, who was laying on me. That was when I realized that he was dressed up in a white t-shirt and black sweats, his hair was neatly styled.
I could get the faint scent of his masculine cologne that wafted in the air which made me believe that he had already had a shower.
"Mmm...." I hummed again and debated on whether I should tell him about the nightmare that Nic had last night but finally came to a conclusion. I will tell him; he deserves to know what his son is going through.

"Well, I am going to-" He announced but I interrupted him mid-sentence my swatting his arm. I placed my index finger on my lips in a way of telling him to be silent because Nic was sleeping.
But apparently, the little jellybean of a boy in my arms had already been woken up.
"Xia?" He spoke, lifting his head up from my chest. He rubbed his eye with his left hand.
"Hm?" I asked.
"Good Morning!" He beamed.
I nodded and smiled, kissing his forehead. He did the same and climbed further on me to reach the face of Rico, who was still laying on the bed. Nic kissed his father's cheek and wished him a good morning. His father reciprocated the love that his son gave him.
Seeing that Nic was not on me anymore, I took it as a chance to leave the bed. I scooted away from the Ramirezes so that they could have their time together and walked towards the bathroom.
After I did my business and brushed my teeth, I wanted to have a shower but realized that my clothes weren't in here. Sighing, I opened the door and went out again, only to see the both of them cuddled up in the quilt together.
I smiled to myself and trudged over to my closet, picking out an outfit that consisted of an oversize hoodie and sweatpants.
Yep, that's all I wear. Don't judge me.
Twenty-five minutes later, I was dressed up and ready for the day. When I walked back to the room, I found both father and son sitting up on the bed, their eyes wide open.
The pajamas that Nic was wearing a while back was replaced with a red t-shirt paired with gray sweatpants so I can only assume that Rico had already given him a bath.

"I want french toast for breakfast!" The little boy announced, throwing his hands up in the air.
"Alright, I'll make some." I smiled.
"Hey! What about me?" The man child exclaimed.
"Do you want french toast?" I asked him.
He grinned, making his dimples appear. "No."
"Then why did you even-" I stopped mid-sentence. It's too early in the morning, I can do this. I'd rather just keep quiet.
He laughed and I narrowed my eyes at him.
Excited, Nic jumped out of the bed and held my hand, the both of us walking out of the room and into the kitchen downstairs. When I turned behind, I saw Rico following us too, a smile plastered onto his face.
I wonder why he's so happy all of a sudden.
I carried Nic and sat him onto the counter just like I always do when I make breakfast for him in the mornings. Ever since I started living here, I told Emma, the housekeeper that I would cook from then onward. At first, she hesitated and so did Rico but eventually they decided to let me be.
I took out the eggs from the fridge and placed them on the counter, grabbing a bowl from the top shelf of the cupboard. Man, I hate the top shelves. I always have to stand on my tiptoes to reach there.
"You need some help there, maní ?" Rico asked me, as I struggled to get another bowl that was placed behind.
"Did you call a freaking peanut?" I asked, ignoring his question.
He smirked, "Why, yes I did."
"I'm not even short." I stated.
Okay maybe not completely a lie because I wasn't too tall and neither was I too short.
"So...you don't need help to reach that bowl a the back?" He questioned, knowing that I couldn't deny his offer.
"No, I don't." I answered.
I needed help but I wasn't going to let him get the satisfaction of asking for his help so I did what I had to. I carefully climbed on the counter-top by placing my knee on it and stretched my hand up. Once I felt the rim of the bowl on my fingertips, I inwardly smiled and gripped onto it.
Cautiously, I climbed back down and let out the breath that I didn't know that I was holding when I set my legs on the floor.
I glanced at Rico, who had an astounding look on his face. Oh, well.
"May I help?" Nic asked, unaware of the playful glare that his father was sending towards me. Ignoring it, I agreed and gave him a bowl along with the eggs.
"You remember how I taught you to do crack it open, right?" I asked, as he held the egg in his tiny palms.
"Yeah." He nodded and proceeded to crack it open.
Seeing that he was busy now, I decided to tell Rico about his nightmare last night. I'm not sure if Nic wanted his father to know about it or not but one thing was for sure; I wasn't going to keep Rico in the dark. He deserves to know.

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.
