《Mi Reina》Chapter Fifteen - Cooties

Xia's POV:
"There's literally nothing to watch." I said to myself while sitting on the couch in the living room and scrolling through the endless amount of movies on Netflix on the TV.
Today is finally the weekend which means that I can enjoy the night without having to sleep early to go to work. I mean, yes, I still have to go but it's alright if I'm a little late.
Just as I was about to switch the TV off, my phone rang. I picked it up and looked at the caller ID.
Mr. Ninja.
Yes, that's what I saved his contact as instead of 'Ricardo'.
"Hello!" I chirped into the phone after accepting the call.
"Hey, um...what is your uh.. apartment number ?" He asked, sounding a little nervous.
"Why ?" I asked. Deciding to tell him anyway, I didn't wait for him to answer. "819."
"Okay. I'll be there soon. Bye!" Ricardo said quickly and disconnected the call.
Alright then. I looked down at my Spongebob pajamas and thought of changing into something more decent.
Eh...it's fine.
I walked into my bedroom and glanced at the mirror to check if my hair looked a little better than a rat's nest. I guess it will have to do.
If he can't handle me at my worst, he doesn't deserve me at my best.
When the doorbell rang, I went to the door and opened it. Before I realized what was happening, I felt a strong grip around my left leg. Looking down, I saw Nicolas hugging it like I was going to wither away soon.
I bent down and picked the little guy up in my arms. "Hey Nicolas. How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine now." He smiled, wrapping his arms around my neck.

"Aren't you going to hug me too?" Ricardo asked, a smirk spread across his lips.
He was wearing a casual black tee paired with a black jeans. His hair looked damp, making the strands of his hair appear a little messy.
My eyes traveled down to his richly decorative tattooed arms. I never saw his entire arm due to him wearing a shirt every time we had met before.
I narrowed my eyes at him and refrained myself from swearing in front of Nicolas. I don't want him to swear even before he can count till a hundred.
But, I am not saying that it's okay afterwards. I would never want him to. Hold up, why am I acting like I am his mother or something? What's wrong with me?
"No, I won't."
"Really?" He pouted. "Don't you think I should get a hug from Xia, Nicolas? We're meeting after such a long time."
Long time my ass. I met this dimwit a day ago!
"Yeah, he needs a hug too." Nicolas said, supporting his father.
"No, he doesn't." I whispered to Nicolas. "I'll tell you a secret but don't tell anyone, alright?"
He agreed, nodding eagerly.
"He has cooties." I said, now a little louder so that Ricardo could also hear me.
Nicolas' eyes widened with fear. "Cooties?"
"Yeah." I confirmed, not being able to contain the devilish smile on my face.
Now, it was Ric's time to narrow his eyes at me. Ha! Take that.
I smiled victoriously and stood aside, giving him space to enter. When I closed the door, I placed Nicolas back on the ground.
Ric handed the a container to me. "We made cookies for you!"
"Oh, really?" I asked, surprised at their kind gesture.

Kind, yes. You're probably thinking, 'That's a freaking mafia Don and you're saying he is kind?'
Well, all I know is that he might not be a saint but he is the best father that he could ever be to his son and that's all that matters.
Nicolas deserves all the love in the world; even the love of a mother. I believe that one day Ric will find someone who makes his heart happy, someone who he can lean onto and someone to love his son just as much as he does.
I know he will.
I shook my head, getting rid of the thoughts and took one of the cookies out the rectangular plastic box, taking a bite. "Mmm..."
"This is really good..." I praised, savoring the taste of the chocolaty goodness in my mouth.
"It is not the same as the ones you make." Nicolas said worriedly.
"If you add a little more of vanilla essence and maybe cut down on the quantity of flour, it will." I suggested.
"Okay, I'll do that next time." He smiled, pretending like he was the one who made them all by himself.
I turned to face Ricardo who was already looking at me. Oookaayy...
"What ?" I asked, feeling self-conscious.
"Nothing." He shook his head and sat on the couch, next to Nicolas.
I eyed him suspiciously and sat on the other side of Nicolas, watching him scroll through Netflix like a pro.
Damn. At four years old, all I did was drool and scribble on everything that I could get a hold of. I still remember the doll collection; half of them had their heads ripped apart and the other half had their faces scribbled on.
"Dadda, can we watch Dolittle?" The little boy asked Ricardo.
"Yeah, I don't mind." He smiled, showing his dimples.
"Can I watch Dolittle?" Nicolas asked, turning to me.
"Sure! Anything you want." I replied.
Nicolas smiled as he pressed on the play button.
"I'll get the snacks." I announced and walked to the kitchen. Minutes later, when I went back into the living room with a bowl of popcorn and a plate of chips, I saw Ric and Nic, oh that rhymes, anywhoo...
I saw both of them cuddled up together on the couch. Feeling chilly myself, I brought out a huge blanket that I always kept on my bed. I put the huge fluffy blanket over the three of us watched the movie while munching on the snacks.
I hadn't realized that we fell asleep until about 2:00 AM.

Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
