《Mi Reina》Chapter Six - PB & J

Xia's POV:
After Ricardo reached me to my apartment, I went into the bathroom for a nice and long shower. As I felt the warm water on myself, my muscles relaxed. Wow, this feels nice.
I thought of today's events; there was literally a shooting at the park. I can't believe that there are people out there who are cold and heartless enough to open fire at a children's park.
I hope everyone who were there are alright now. I thought.
Then, my mind slowly drifted towards Ricardo. I could still imagine those eyes looking at me. He seemed like he was a normal person but as soon as the raid started, he pulled out a freaking gun and shot back.
I don't know much about him or even Antonio. One thing that I do know for sure is that he is dangerous. By how perfectly he had handled the situation a few hours back, tells me that it wasn't his first time.
What he does for a living has to be perilous too and I have to stay away from him. No matter how much I enjoy Nicolas' company, I have to. All I hope is that Nicolas is safe. That's all I want.
I got out of the shower ans wrapped a towel around myself. I entered my closet and since it was a little chilly, I chose to wear a plum-colored knock off Supreme hoodie because I am too broke to buy the real one, with black playboy sweatpants.
I tied my hair and jumped on my bed, ready to sleep but then I my stomach grumbled. Oh, right. I didn't have dinner yet because I passed out after being traumatized my the sight of blood and dead bodies.
No biggie. Note the sarcasm.
Huffing, I got out of bed and as I walked towards the kitchen, I stepped on the marble floor which was very cold so I ran back to my carpet-floored room and wore black ankle socks.

I went back to the kitchen in search of food. I looked around and in the fridge but there wasn't any leftover pizza or anything so I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Normally, I would actually cook dinner for myself but today I was exhausted and didn't have all that energy. Plus, I still had that pulsing headache.
After I spread the jam and peanut butter, I placed them on top of each other and took out a knife to cut the crust of the sliced bread. I don't like the crust.
I put it on a plate and then poured myself a glass of cold milk. It tastes really good together because the creaminess of the milk a and the sweetness of the sandwich is a match made in heaven!
Walking to the living room, I placed my glass on the coffee table and sat on the couch, in front of the TV to watch some Netflix.
A while later, I heard the ringing of my phone and stood up in search of it. When I found it in my room, I took a look at the screen and saw Adrian's name. Accepting the call, I put the phone to my ear.
"Heyy!" I greeted.
"Finally, you picked up. Where were you?" He said, his voice laced with concern.
I didn't want to give details about today's incident so I simply said, "Out."
"Thanks, Captain Obvious. I hadn't figured that out yet." Adrian sarcastically said. "I called a hundred times before this because I was worried. I saw on the news that there was a shooting at the park earlier today and you normally go there. Are you alright?"
"Yeah, don't worry. I'm fine, I wasn't there." I lied, not wanting him to worry about me.

"Then why didn't pick up? Did you throw your phone in the ocean before you left?" He asked, sarcastically.
"No..." I paused. "I was busy. But I'm alright. Don't worry."
He sighed. "Well, tell me if you need anything. I am here for you, okay?"
"I know." I smiled. "Goodnight, Butt-head."
"Night, Cheesestick." He replied.
I laughed at the new found nickname he made for me and finally ended the call. Since I was bored, I decided to call Damon. No, not the hot vampire but instead my brother.
There is a ten hour difference between Spain and Australia and because it was 10:30 PM here, it had to have been 8:30 AM there which meant that Damon was probably getting ready for work now; a perfect time to call.
I dialed the number and the call was accepted, I expected his annoying manly voice but instead heard cute giggles. That's when I realized that Olivia, his two-year-old daughter, managed to answer the call.
"Heyo?" Her voice spoke through the phone. I smiled at how adorable she was trying to say the word 'hello'.
"Hi, Livia." I cooed. "How is my favorite niece?"
"I'm fwine." She answered.
"Where's Dadda?" I asked her and as soon as I did, I heard her mother, Ava.
"Honey, who are you talking to?" Her voice sounded worried. "Please don't pick up your Daddy's calls."
"Hello ?" Ava said into the phone, her voice much clearer now.
"Heyyyy, Ava-cado!" I greeted, using a nickname that I know she despises.
"Oh my God! Xi!" She squealed, ignoring the pun. "I haven't spoken to you ages. How are you ?"
I laughed at how she reacted. "I'm good. You ?"
"I'm fine too. Why don't you visit someti-" She was cut off by the voice of my brother.
"Is that Toots ?" He asked. Ugh...ever since I was a child, he has been using that nickname for me. I don't even know what it means.
"Yup. Come say hello." Ava replied.
A moment later, Damon greeted, "Hey there, my little tootie bear !"
"Hello, Short Stuff." I retort, teasing him back.
He chuckled, "How are you ?"
"I'm fine. How's my big brother doing ?" I asked.
"Alright, I guess. I just have so much work to do these days." He sighs.
"Hey ! Don't pout. I'll try to meet you both as well as Mom and Dad in the next few months." I tried cheering him up.
"Oh no. You're coming ?" He said with fake worry. "Well, better leave this house soon."
"Ha. Ha. So funny." I said, dryly.
"Okay now, my turn." I heard Ava's voice in the background.
"Bye, take care. Goodnight." Damon said and again, I spoke to Ava for a while.
We spoke to each other, catching up on our lives for some time more. Later, she hung up because they had to leave the house to go to work.
When I finished eating the sandwich, I washed my plate along with the glass. Jumping on the bed, I went under the blankets and closed my eyes. Soon enough, I fell into a deep, relaxing slumber.

The Granddaughter of Time
Teresa Hargrove was okay with giving up. She knew the Earth was doomed and there was nothing to be done about it. What she was not okay with was the Future, an enigmatic woman nearly fanatical in her devotion to making a difference, dragging her along — seemingly, to prove her wrong. It turns out though that the Future is very hard to understand. This story contains heavy themes, including mental illness, existential crisis and death. However, I still tried to eventually convey a message of hope. Several mythical and metaphorical beings in the shape of humans will appear in most chapters. However, they are not meant to be of a specific ethnicity or social background and are instead perceived differently by people around them. For your reading pleasure, feel free to imagine them any way you’d like, even if your imagination contradicts descriptions from the story. Enjoy!~
