《The Ghost (Ghost #1)》Chapter 24

I prepare myself a late breakfast, since I woke up around 9 this morning. Blake did not wake me up, like he said he would, so I overslept. I'll get him back for that, that's for sure.

"You want something to eat?" I turn to Blake as I take out food from his fridge.

"I've already eaten." He replies with a small smile on his face, his icy blue eyes following my every move.

"Okay, then."

I make myself a ham sandwich and a bowl of fruit salad. I clean up everything before getting ready to eat. It's a habit of mine. I place the plate and bowl on the table opposite to Blake, but he pulls them to him before tugging on my hand. He pulls me to sit sideways on his lap, earning an eye-roll from me.

"Blake." I groan.

"I'm not doing anything." He smirks at me.

"Let me sit on a chair. I want to eat in peace." I try to get up, keyword – try, but his arms around my waist are unmovable.

"I'm way more comfortable to sit on." I snort unladylike at this. I give up, not wanting to rip my stitches.

I pick up a piece of peach from my bowl, almost choking on it as I see Blake's hand take my sandwich and take a huge bite of it. I scowl at him, annoyed.

"Blake!" I whine.

"What?" He mocks my tone. "I got hungry."

"You could've told me you wanted a sandwich." I admonish, popping a grape in my mouth.

"Would you make me one?" He grins cheekily.

"I would." I tell him honestly. "This is the first and last time you get away with this. Never steal my food." I warn him sternly. I'm extremely protective of my food.

"I'll make it up to you, okay? How about I take you out for dinner?" He sounds apologetic as he sees me furiously stab a strawberry with my fork.

"Add ice cream to that and we have a deal."

"Done. I didn't want to get you mad, baby." He rubs my back as he leans his chin on my shoulder. Now I feel bad for snapping at him. He doesn't know why I'm like this.

"I know you didn't. It's just that... I don't like sharing my food. After my parents abandoned me, I was living on the streets for a while, surviving on scraps. I appreciated anything I could get my hands on, so I am really possessive of my food. Old habits die hard, I guess."

I feel Blake's hold on me tighten considerably as his mind registers what I said.

"You lived on the streets? You mean you were homeless?" The crease between his eyebrows deepens in worry as he speaks.

"For almost a year. I wasn't put in the system, since no one knew about my parents leaving me." I say, turning back to my food.

"How did you survive out there for so long?" He quietly asks.

I shrug. "I don't know, I just lived day after day."

He kisses my shoulder then puts his chin back on it. He keeps staring at me while I eat, analyzing my every move.

"Stop staring. I'm going to choke on something." I try to ease some of his tension, but his smirk tells me I've chosen my words wrong. "Not a word, Blake. Not. A. Word." His chest rumbles with laughter.

"How did you know what I was going to say?" I give him a deadpan look.

"You got that look in your eye when you smirked at me. Besides, I've heard the way you and the guys joke around. I'm not deaf." I say. "But good job on keeping your mouth shut." I grin and pat his cheek, offering him the last strawberry.

He laughs before taking it from my fork.

"And don't even get me started on the amount of girls that went through your bed." I shudder in disgust as I go towards the sink with the dishes.

"You were the first girl that was in my bed." I turn around at that.

I can't help but scoff. "Blake-"

"I'm serious. I've never taken a girl to my room. You were the first one to sleep in my bed." I'm surprised at the seriousness in his voice.

"Then what about-" I'm interrupted before I can finish.

"Guest bedroom." He shrugs.

I turn back around, not saying anything. As I wash the dishes I feel arms wrap around my waist and Blake's heavy head on top of mine.

"None of them were important enough for me to invite them into my bed. I appreciate the privacy of my room. It's my little haven, so I would never take someone I don't care about in there."

"You don't have to explain yourself to me, Blake. I don't really mind, I knew about your way with girls. It doesn't bother me." I dry my hands off and turn around. "But if you cheat on me, I will cut your dick off." I tell him, poking his chest pointedly.

"I won't. I wouldn't ask you out if I wanted anyone else." He kisses me, as if to prove his point, getting a smile from me. He's so cute.

"I need to go home. I don't have any clothes to change into."

"Or you can just wear mine all day."

"I need underwear. I won't wear the same one I did yesterday, it's gross." As if on cue, Blake's gaze turns to my chest. He looks back up, raising an eyebrow in question.

"You're not wearing a bra, then?" He sounds shocked.

"What do you think, genius? Now move over. I want to be done with my notes before lunch, so I need to leave soon." I push his arms off my waist before stepping away.

"Are you trying to seduce me, sweetheart?" He asks as he follows after me.

"Why would I? I already got you." I joke.

I hear him mutter "tease" as I walk up the stairs. Once I reach his room, he chivalrously opens the door for me.

"After you, milady."

"Why thank you, kind sir." I laugh as I walk in.

I pick up my clothes from his bathroom, putting them in my backpack then look for my phone and car keys.

"Here." Blake gives me my stuff before putting on a shirt and his signature leather jacket.

"Thanks." I put my phone in my backpack and turn to the door to leave.

Blake takes my hand, intertwining our fingers as always and I look up to him in question. I open my mouth to ask him what is he doing, but he shushes me with a quick kiss.

"I'm coming with you."

"Alright, then." I shrug, not really minding his company.

I wait by my car as Blake locks the front door before getting in.

"I didn't notice it yesterday, but your car's interior looks great." I hear him say as he buckles in.

"Thank you, I try." I put the car in gear, reversing from Blake's driveway and getting on the road.

"Mind if I turn on the radio?" I chuckle at him. He sounds almost shy, it's adorable.

"Go for it."

The drive towards my house is peaceful. My hand lies interlocked with Blake's on his thigh and the sound of Breaking Benjamin resonates through the car. There is this comfortable silence between us that I don't feel the need to fill. Blake keeps drawing something on the back of my hand with his finger. I noticed he does that a lot. He's been doing it every chance he got during the last month. I don't complain, it feels nice – slightly ticklish – but nice.

As I get closer to my house, I notice a car in front of it. A black convertible. Fortunately it doesn't block my driveway, or I would get pissed. I slow down as I turn into my driveway, opening the garage through the console on the dashboard. After I park the car inside, we get out before taking our backpacks from the backseat. I completely forgot about Blake's backpack yesterday. I mentally facepalm.

Once we're out, I close the garage door just when two loud voices scream from my front porch.

"Guys! Oh my god, you're okay! Thank god!" I can barely turn around when I'm engulfed in a bone-breaking bear hug, being smothered with kisses on my face. Had I not recognized the owner of the voice, he would be beaten up by now.

Once the bear squeezing me releases his death grip on me, I'm pulled by another bear before I can even blink. This one decides to let me breath, as his hold is much gentler than his friend's.

"Thank you, Lia." William whispers in my ear before releasing me.

Blake is immediately next to me, pulling me into his side.

"Are you okay? What about your stitches?" He asks quietly, so the guys don't hear him.

I lean into his ear. "I'll check them once we're inside."

I ignore Tyler's inquisitive stare as he looks up and down my body. "Why are you wearing Blake's clothes, little one?" He teasingly asks after I invite them to my house. I don't really want to talk in front of my garage.

"Because I don't have clothes at Blake's house." I answer offhandedly.

"Make yourself at home." I say as I head towards my bedroom. The guys have been at my house a lot of times, so I don't really need to tend to them. Ever since I started dating Blake, they would come here all the time after school. I hear someone opening my fridge just as I'm about to enter my room. See what I mean? They always raid my kitchen whenever they're here, so unless I want to be dragged to the grocery store with them, I have to keep my cupboards full. Don't they get fed at home?

"Aren't you going to stay with the guys?" I ask without turning around as I go through my closet, pulling out a pair of high-waist ripped jeans and a Naruto t-shirt then take a black set of underwear from the drawer.

"I want to make sure you're okay first." Blake comes up to me before taking the shirt from my hands and throwing it back in the closet. I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Keep my shirt on." He tells me with a smile.

"Try again."

"Please." He pouts. POUTS! Adorable Cakey.

"Much better." I praise him with a pat on a cheek.

Before I can walk away, he pulls me to him by my hips and kisses me. He pulls away after I pat his chest feeling breathless. I give him a peck on the nose before going to my bathroom to change.

I leave my bathroom about 40 minutes later, having my wounds rewrapped, hair washed and clothes changed. I keep Blake's shirt on, despite it looking ridiculous on me. Since it reaches past my mid thigh, I tie a knot on the bottom of it.

I enter the living room, only to find guys lounging on my couches with their shoes still on, leaving no room for me to sit. Blake notices my expression and pulls me into his lap.

"Guys, don't put your shoes on my couch, please." I tell them nicely, for the first and last time. If they do it again, I'll throw them off to the floor.

They get up and take off their shoes in the foyer before coming back and lying back down on the couches.

"So what happened yesterday?" William is the first to talk.

"Lia got me out of trouble with my dad. Then she spent the night at my house. End of story." Blake doesn't mention my mental breakdown, for which I turn my head around and give him a kiss on his cheek in gratitude.

"Yeah, we figured out that much, but how did she do it?"

"How did I spend the night? Well, I took a shower, changed into pajamas, and went to sleep. Isn't that how you spend the night at someone's house?" I decide to play with them, hearing Blake chuckle behind me. I lean my back on his chest and put my hands over his, but he moves them over mine, keeping them around my waist.

"That's not what we're talking about, little one." Tyler smirks at the position we're in.

"She showed my dad the notes from the dickhead." Blake tightens his hold on me as he mentions Declan.

"You kept them?!" William shoots up, looking at me with disbelief.

"Blake kept them, not me." I gesture with my head at Blake.

"I simply forgot to throw them away after class. But they came in handy in the end. You should've seen my dad's face, I've never seen him so angry in my life. He looked ready to kill the fucker with his own hands."

After a few moments of silence, Tyler speaks up.

"Is that all that happened yesterday?" He has a strange look on his face.

"What do you mean?" Blake seems to notice Tyler's expression as he gets defensive.

"Well, when we came to drop your car off, your mom invited us for a drink. Then we met your dad in the hallway as we were on our way to your room. And we saw something. I think your dad got traumatized. – Tyler starts laughing – I mean, wow. You two were going at it like starved animals." I feel my eyes widen in shock as both Tyler and William high five while laughing like crazy. Blake puts his face in my hair, staying silent.

"You're excited as if you've never seen people kissing. What are you, five?" I decide to shrug it off. They would catch us sooner or later. I feel Blake relax as he leaves a kiss on the back of my head before nuzzling his nose in my hair. Doesn't he care it's still wet?

The guys keep laughing, while Blake and I silently watch them, waiting for them to calm down.

After a while Blake tries to stop them, but he gets blatantly ignored. I notice him get slightly irritated.

"Guys, shut up or I'll put a lock on my fridge." They instantly get quiet. I knew it would work.

I glance at their plates on the coffee table, only now catching the obvious chocolate stains on them.

"DID YOU TOUCH MY CAKE?!"

I get off Blake's lap and rush to my kitchen. I open the fridge, only to see that the chocolate fudge cake I had inside is gone.

I storm back to the living room, furious.

"YOU ATE MY CAKE!!!" I point an accusing finger at the two thieves.

The guys smile at me sheepishly, clearly realizing their mistake.

"You're buying me food for the next month. That'll teach you not to mess with girl's chocolate." I cross my arms over my chest as I challenge them to refuse, while Blake laughs at his friends' misfortune. Now that he knows about my past, he understands my fury.

With an angry huff I take their plates and go back to the kitchen to wash them. I don't like dirty dishes lying around.

"Blake, help." I hear Tyler's plea as I head back.

"Don't you dare. They ate my cake, they have to pay." I warn Blake with a glare. He gives the guys an apologetic look.

"I'm heading off to my room. I have work to do. You can do whatever you want." I tell the guys as I leave the room.

As I'm busy going through my notes, I hear the bedroom door open. Blake settles down on my bed, lying on his stomach with my pillow under his chin, as he watches me.

"The guys have just left. They have to go back to school." He says.

"If they left a mess on my couch, I'll make them clean my whole house." I tell him, making him chuckle.

"I've never seen them so afraid of someone smaller than them, apart from their moms of course."

"They ate my cake." I whine, turning around to face him. "It was a chocolate fudge cake!"

"You're adorable. I'll buy you a dozen cakes if you want." He gets up to sit on the edge of my bed and leans forward to pull my chair to him.

"I made it myself." I deadpan.

"WHAT?! They're buying you food for two months!" He exclaims in mock outrage.

"You're impossible." I shake my head at him, laughing.

"When will you be done?" He glances at my computer.

"Don't know. About an hour or so." He nods at me. Suddenly his eyes light up as he gets an idea and a mischievous look crosses his face.

"You're staying at my house for the weekend?" He asks excitedly.

"I don't know..." I trail off, feeling wary.

"Please, stay." He adds quickly.

After a few moments of his pleading look, I concede.

"Fine, I'll stay at your house."

"Great!" He pecks my lips then turns my chair around back towards my desk.

"I'll pack your bag."
