《My Brother's Best Friend》Chapter 42

Everything happened so fast my mind was still processing the fragment of moments that occurred. I haven't seen Jax so mad since he found out I lied to him about Rebecca and Hunter.

Still, this was a different type of anger. This was hurt. It was his pain. This was the one thing in the world that could ever hurt Jax.

His father impregnated another woman and rather start another family then fix his relationship with his son. I couldn't imagine what was running through his mind.

We sat on the bench that was besides the house and a little garden was planted with flowers growing out from it. The night sky was illuminated with stars shinning bright above us.

"Do you want to leave?" I asked Jax, placing my hand on his lap.

He didn't move a single muscle. He's been staring off into space for the past ten minutes clouded by his own thoughts.

I watched as he blinked and furrowed his eyebrows from time to time. I hated seeing him like this. He looked so confused, betrayed even.

Bobby and Monica were inside with Chloe finishing up dinner and let us come out here for some alone time to let Jax cool down.

After Monica told us the news Jax broke out into a spiraling mess. He started yelling at his father and telling him what a joke he was.

I didn't feel a bit of embarrassment or pity for Bobby. He did in fact deserve what Jax said to him. He was never a father to Jax or Amanda and now he wants to be a father to someone else.

"I hate him" Jax grits his teeth.

"I know," I sigh in frustration. "I know you do , Jax but you can't let him get to you."

"How am I not going to let him get to me when he does shit like this?" Jax spat as he threw his hands all over the place as he talked. "He's fucking stupid."

"I think you should talk to him. Tell him how you feel and make him see why this was hard for you." I suggest.

"Talk to him?" He laughs. "Clearly you don't know that man that well. What makes him think he can take care of another kid if he left his own children? And Monica," He scoffs. "Some thirty five year old who clearly only loves his money."

The more I heard what he was saying and the pain he was sharing with me, the more anger I felt towards Bobby. It had to hurt Jax a lot to come here and see his father live his perfect life with someone else.

"I'll be right back." I give Jax a kiss on the cheek and stand up from the bench.

"Where are you going?" He wonders.

"To do what you should have done long ago."

Entering the house once again, I take a deep breath in and prepare for the worst. If Jax wouldn't make his father understand, then I would have to do it my way. I wasn't going to let Bobby move on with his life with Jax tied by the hand.

"Bobby," I say entering the dining room. They were all laughing at the table before I interrupted. As the seconds past I swallowed any nervous feeling I felt and stood my ground. "Jax is done with you."

He chuckles and looks over at Monica as if expecting the same laughing reaction from her. I knew he viewed himself as untouchable but I would break him down if it meant protecting Jax from him.

"Excuse me?" he raises an eyebrow. "Do you know who I am?"

I shake my head in disbelief. "I did once. I don't know what happened to the man who took care of me as a kid or the father Jax looked upon, but you aren't him. I wish you the best in taking care of this new baby because you're going to need it."

He wasn't laughing anymore. Instead, he looked like he was ready to punch me square in the nose. I didn't and wasn't going to let his intimidation get to me.

Monica tells Chloe to go play in the other room and leave us to talk. Getting up, she leaves the room and tension begins to build up.

"As for you," I look at Monica. "I pity you." Her face fell deep into the ground. "Just like Bobby left Cathy he's going to leave you. He left his two kids and a mother who was unable to provide for herself. She had to build her own empire for her kids. So, I wish you and Chloe and this baby luck."

Bobby gets up from the table, knocking the chair down in the process and points his finger at me. "Who the hell are you coming into my house and telling me how to run my family?! I will not allow you to disrespect me and my wife."

"I wasn't disrespecting anyone I was stating facts. You're the one who has been disrespecting Jax and his mother all these years. From now on you're going to stay away from him, Amanda, and his mom." I threaten.

"Are you threatening me?" He questions in which I follow with a nod. "You have some nerve. Do you really think I am afraid of some high school low life kid?"

"Bobby, that is enough." Monica steps in.

"Tell me," he ignores Monica. "What are you going to do if I don't listen?" He crosses his hands over his chest as he waits for my answer.

"Did you forget my dads a cop?" I smirk. "One call and I'll dig you so far under you won't be able to buy your way out."

"You have nothing on me."

"She doesn't, but I do." Jax's voice comes from behind me. I turn around to see him standing there with his hands in his pockets.

I smile to myself as he comes besides me and looks at me with a soft smile. Everyday I feel myself fall just a little harder and as we stood here standing up to his father, it felt like it was us against the world.

"What are you talking about?" Bobby furrows his eyebrows.

Monica looks between the three of us making sure to keep her mouth shut. She was too afraid of saying the wrong thing and upsetting Bobby. I had hoped she took what I said into consideration. Bobby only cared for himself and she would see that once the baby is born.

"Did you forget about all the scams and money you took from the company?" Jax raised his eyebrow.

Bobby's body tensed up as his breathing increased heavily. Whatever Jax had against him it was bad enough that it frightened his father.

"Monica go see if Rosa needs help in the kitchen." Bobby says, not taking his eyes off of Jax.

"Wh-" She begins to say.

"Don't question me, go." He orders.

"What happened dad? You don't want her knowing the shit you've done to get money over the years?" Jax smirks.

Monica gets up from the table and slowly walks out as she looks at Bobby in disbelief. The second she is out of sight Bobby rushes around the table and throws himself at Jax, grabbing him by his shirt.

After quickly wrapping my mind around what just happened, I start slapping on Bobby's chest as Jax grunts in pain from under him.

"Get off of him! What the fuck?!" I scream in anger.

"You don't know shit!" Bobby yells in Jax's face.

"Oh, no?" Jax raises an eyebrow. "So, I don't know how when you worked for Kevin's dad all those years ago you took money from the company? When Brad Richardson found out you threatened to tell his wife about his affair if he went to the police so he swept it under the rug and fired you instead."

"Bullshit!" Bobby yelled.

"Let's see if it's bullshit when we take it to Emma's dad." Jax spat. "You think I didn't know this entire time but Kevin knew and he told me." He shook his head looking at his dad with disgust.

Within seconds Bobby shoves Jax into the wall and let's go of his grip. I rush to Jax's side and comfort him as he continues to argue.

"From now on you're going to leave me alone. You aren't going to contact my mom anymore and you aren't seeing Amanda." Jax tells him. "Since you decided to stop being my father I'm done being your son for good."

Smiling to myself, I look at Bobby's face to see how resentful he looked. He missed out on a good one. Jax turned out perfect without him and I'm sure he realizes that. Jax had me and if he knew that I'm sure he wouldn't mind it one bit.

"Jax," Bobby sighs. "I-I.."

He stops himself not knowing how to continue. Jax finally had the courage to cut the string loose. He didn't need his father's money or bribery to see him anymore.

"Let's go, Emma." Grabbing my hand, Jax interlocks our fingers together and leads the way to the entrance.

We stayed in silence all the way until we got into the car and started driving away. I turned to look at him to see he had a single tear rolling down his face.

In that moment my heart shattered into a million pieces. I've never seen Jax cry and worst of all to see him cry over what just happened made my heart ache.

"I'm proud of you." I tell him and he smiles as he looks out into the road. "I'm here, Jax."

He looks over at me as we approach a red light and reaches out to touch my face. My face heats up at the touch of his fingers caressing it and I grin at him.

"I'm right here."
