I walked back to my room but my mind was stuck on her words,

We both married for our reasons.

"What're you thinking, babe ?" Lis asked seductively wrapping her arms around my neck.

"Nothing love." I replied, pulling her in a kiss.

Dad has to give me a lot of answers.

I made my way towards his office and barged in. He was about to yell when he looked up and his features softened.

"Oh good morning son, I hope you're cooled down."

"Why did she agree to marry me ?" I rebuked, ignoring his greetings.

He didn't reply, but I want answers.

"Is it that deal ?" My voice dangerously calm. He released a deep breath.

"Yes, it is."

"Wow dad ! and I thought that she was a descent girl. Which "descent" girl marries a stranger for a deal." I said, through gritted teeth.

On the other hand, my dad looked so calm that it was annoying the shit out of me.

"Son, I don't think you have any right to question that when you, yourself married her for business."

"Yeah, right. I married her cause you threatened me to donate the company I worked my butt off for past 8 years."

My fist clenched so tightly that my knuckles turned white.

"She worked her whole for it."

He spoke, more like to himself.

"What do you mean ?"

"What I mean is that it is not my story to tell. I told you to give her a chance and get to know her. She isn't as simple as she looks."

Is it really just me or he is really talking about her as if he knows her. like closely.

"How do you know ?"

"I just know." A smile took over his features.

Instead of getting answers, all I am getting more questions.

Later that day, I called Matt ( our private investigator ) to find her connection to the farm, but unfortunately he found nothing.

And that was the time when dad's words entered my mind,

She isn't as simple as she looks.

Rest of the day went by, with me being busy in meetings and conferences.

That night, I returned at the penthouse late. I just wanted some lone time.

When I stepped inside, I found her sitting on the sofa with her laptop. Her brown strands were hanging loosely. I walked further inside, her head snap towards me.

She immediately stood up and began to walk towards the kitchen.

"Freshen up. I'll serve the dinner." She spoke softly.

"I am not hungry." I said and began to stroll towards my room.

"Oh..o..okay !" She said and went back in her room. One thing she did good.

I carried dinner to my room, passing her room on the way. There was this urge to open the door and see what she was doing but I let it slide.
