Our moment was interrupted by Francesca, who came to inform us that Ricci and Adele had come to see Ermanno. She told us that they were waiting for us in the living room.

I asked her to send them to his room, because his wound was fresh and I didn’t want him to move much. It would delay the healing process. But he immediately denied and told her to inform them that we were coming.

I asked him, “Why are you not letting them come here, instead of going downstairs? You are restricted to do unnecessary movements.”

He told me, “I don’t feel comfortable with anyone entering my room. It is sort of my personal space and I feel like invasion of my privacy when anyone comes here.”

I got up from his bed, alarmed and told him hurriedly, “I am so sorry. I didn’t knew about it. I am lounging here since morning and even spent the night here without your permission. I am really sorry. I won’t enter here ever again. I promise.”

He interrupted my panicked speech, “Rosa! As much as I love watching you blabber, I have to interrupt you because I don’t want you to be worried about anything. I don’t mind you being here. In fact, I loved it.”

“But you just said that you don’t like anyone coming inside your room?” I asked him, confused.

He informed me, “Yes, I said that. But you are not anyone to me. Only you, nonno and Francesca are allowed. That’s it.”

My heart did a somersault in my chest as I made an ‘o’ with my lips. I tried to control the blush trying to spread on my cheeks, but I failed to do it hearing his next words.

He continued, “Besides, my everything is yours. And not to forget that this is going to be your room too, after our marriage.”

For the first time, I liked the idea of marrying him and my heart agreed to it!

I helped him out of his bed and supported some of his weight on me by putting his good arm around my neck. All the while, my heart continued to race in my chest and I felt like it was going to jump out of it.

We both slowly made our way to the living room. I knew that all of the movement was putting stress on his abdomen, so I tried to help him as much as I could.

I was glad that Ricci and Adele were there. I had gotten really close to them those past days, when Ermanno was not there. We had built a really strong friendship bond. Adele was sweet, funny, kind and confident girl, exactly opposite to what I had expected due to her family background. And Ricci was so carefree and jolly, that I sometimes wondered if he really worked in Mafia, or if he had a twin brother.

When we reached the living room, both of them rushed towards us while Ricci helped me with Ermanno. We made him sit comfortably on the sofa and I put some cushions behind his back to offer some comfort to him.

I was about to move away from him, when he grabbed my wrist and ordered me to sit next to him. I shyly sat next to him.

From the corner of my eyes, I caught Ricci wiggling his eyebrows at us. Ermanno completely ignored him while I felt embarrassed.

Adele spoke, “How were you attacked, Ermanno? Where were your guards at that time? Were you not careful, or what?”

He gritted, “I was caught off guard.”

“But you should have been careful man! You know even a slight carelessness can cost life in our world,” Ric cautioned him.

Ermanno sighed, “I know.”

Adele spoke worriedly, “But who would dare to attack you? Do you have doubt on anyone?”

Ermanno spoke looking at Ric, “I don’t have doubt, I surely know that it could be only one person behind it!”

“I had a talk to Alessandro this morning. We will find him soon,” Ric assured him.

Ermanno spoke so coldly and menacingly that anyone would be afraid of him, hearing his tone only, “I can’t wait to get my hands on him. I will make sure he pays worst than his father. They have not learnt their lesson from that incident. He has forgotten whom he was messing with. I will make sure to show it to him, so that his seven generations would know not to mess with Ermanno D’Amelio.”

What incident was he talking about? I was sure that they were talking about Luca Martinez. But what about his father? Was he too involved in it? But why were they so against Ermanno? Weren’t they afraid of him?

Ric’s voice interrupted my chain of thoughts, “Don’t worry. That time will come soon. I have some clues and I am trying to find some solid validations for it.”

“Good. Just send me the reports to me. I will see to them today itself,” Ermanno ordered him.

But I strictly prohibited him, “No! You are not going to do a single task! I am sure that Ricci can manage well in your absence,” turning to Ric, I spoke, “Call him only in emergency, he needs rest.”

“But this is important, amore mio,” Ermanno told me lovingly.

I stubbornly told him, “I have already told you that your health is more important.”

Thankfully, he was reluctant but nonetheless, agreed, “Alright, inform me when you get the solid proofs. And try to do it faster. He is becoming a bigger threat for me. I don’t want the history to repeat itself!”

I was confused. What history talking about?

Ric told him, “Non preoccuparti. Questa bolta non perderai nessuno.”

(Don’t worry. This time you won’t loose anyone.)

Stealing a glance at me, Ermanno spoke, “Assicurati che non le venga fatto del male. Non lo tollero.”

(Make sure that no harm comes on her. I won’t tolerate it.)

Ric spoke seriously, “Ti do la mia parola che questa volta la regina non subirà danni. La sua sicurezza sarebbe la priorità.”

(I give you my word that this time, the queen will not be harmed. Her safety would be the priority.)

Ermanno spoke, looking directly into his eyes, “Anche davanti al re!”

(Even before the king!)

Ric spoke, looking back into his eyes, “Hai la mia parola!”

(You have my word!)

I didn’t get a word they spoke in Italian. I really needed a translation dictionary when I was with them. It confused me to the core, everytime they used it, leaving me utterly curious.

Adele interrupted them saying, “I know whatever you are discussing is important, but can you do it later, please. We are feeling left out here. Right, Lia?”

I nodded at her. I felt more left out because of not understanding the foreign language.

They agreed and the topic was diverted towards a normal conversation. We randomly talked about everything, but my attention was not on it.

I kept stealing glances of Ermanno. I was feeling drawn to him, like a string pulling me towards him. I couldn’t refuse my heart which was begging me to keep capturing his handsome face, while my gaze instinctively went to him, even without my conscious knowledge.

I was confused with my newfound feelings. What exactly was happening to me?!
