I was sitting in the garden, reading an e-book in my phone. I was feeling suffocated inside and wanted to breathe in some fresh air.

I also wanted to explore the garden area, which I had not done yet. So, I grabbed my phone and headed there.

It was more beautiful and huge than I had assumed. There were flowers of so many types and I didn’t even knew the name of some, each divided skillfully into different sections. The gardener must be really hardworking to maintain such a big and beautiful garden.

I also explored the fountain which I had seen there, when I had first arrived. I noticed how finely detailed work was carved on it upon inspecting it from close. It was truly a masterpiece in itself. In the bottom of it, there were white water lilies and lotuses, which enchanted my heart with their beauty.

There was a separate rose garden too and roses of different shapes and sizes were planted in an attractive combination. A small bench was also kept there to admire their beauty and relax the soul and heart. I instantly liked the place and planted myself there and began my reading session. It was from then, my favorite spot in the mansion.

I was in the middle of reading a very intense part, where the identity of the mysterious killer was going to be revealed, when I was rudely interrupted by the loud blaring of my phone. It was an unknown caller.

Grumbling, I received the call. But the person on the other end, refused to speak.

He was not speaking anything, even after me calling him out, a number of times. It irritated me and I ended up threatening him, “Look! If you don’t have anything to speak then don’t disturb me. And if you are trying to play pranks with me, then you must know who my fiancè is! His name is enough to scare anyone. He is Ermanno D’Amelio. You must have heard his name and how much powerful he is. So don’t you dare mess with me or I will complain about you to him and he will make sure to cut you into small pieces and feed you to the crows.”

Saying that, I ended the call. But I was sure that I had heard a low snickering of someone on the other end, while I was throwing threats at him.

Did he think it was funny?!

I had even called Ermanno my fiancè, when we were not yet engaged. But what could have I done?

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

I was feeling paranoid, plus no one had my new number, except mama and dad. And they surely won’t play these sorts of pranks with me.

But I was grateful that my threat worked and the mystery caller did not bother me again.

I guess that he really got scared of Ermanno. Well, who would not?

Only his name was enough!

Besides, who was going to inform him that I had called him my fiancè? I was definitely not going to do that and I doubt that the prank caller would even get to know that I lied to him.

I tried to divert my attention back on my book, but my mood was already ruined by the incident, so I simply closed my book and tried to soak in the calmness, my surrounding was providing me. It was really serene there and soothed my messed up mind.

A whole week passed away like that, with no news of Ermanno. He never tried to contact me. I had Adele and Ricci, who visited me daily and spent time with me. We used to watch movies, played random games or sat idly sharing our life stories.

Sometimes, I helped Francesca around the mansion. She always treated me like her own child and I had deeply gotten attached to all the 3 of them. They were the only ones who brought some kind of interaction and activity in my new anti-social life. If it weren’t for them, I would have definitely lost my sanity in that big mansion alone, due to boredom.

I often wondered if Ermanno ever had a girlfriend? He didn’t seem to be the type of guy who tried to make an effort to woo a girl or chase after them. But who knew? He might be having a girlfriend or he might also loved someone.

The thought made me a little uneasy but I shrugged it off.

Was he still upset about me not telling him about Albert? But we never sat to share about ourselves or get to know about each other. Did he expect me to say in our first meet that “Hey mister Mafia! I have a boyfriend?” I sighed at the thought.

He had just disappeared from my life. It could also mean that he was really forced to marry me to keep the reputation of his nonno. And when he was away from me, he didn’t need to pretend to care for me.

Yes! It could be the reason because he could have atleast called me once or even left a message for me through Ricci, whom he contacted daily. I knew about it because once, while we were watching a movie, Ric’s phone rang. I and Adele threw a tantrum at that but he excused himself telling us that he had to urgently attend it because it was Ermanno’s call.

Trying not to sound desperate, I discreetly asked Ric if Ermanno ever called him before. He admitted that he reported him daily about whatever was going on here. He even called Adele once. She herself told me.

So that meant that he only left me. Why would he talk to me? Afterall, I was forced upon him and he must be thinking of me as a burden.

I was feeling really restless that night. There was a nagging feeling in my gut that something bad was about to happen. I couldn’t shrug it off, even after trying so hard. It only intensified with each passing moment.

I tried to sleep to get rid of the feeling but sleep was far away from my eyes. Feeling irritated, I sat up to drink some water to calm myself down.

I turned to my side table, only to find an empty jug. Sighing, I got up to refill it because I knew that I won’t be able to sleep without drinking water.

I went downstairs. Only the dim lights were turned on in the hallways. I was on my way to the kitchen, when I heard voices coming from the living room. I stopped in my tracks and concentrated on the noise. It seemed like someone was groaning in pain. It was a male voice.

But who could it be?

I kept the jug on a table kept in a side and slowly trudged towards the source of the voice. Sound of heavy pantings were clear.

Somewhere deep inside, I was afraid too. What if it was some thief? But who would be brave enough to dare to rob from the mansion of Ermanno D’Amelio?

But what if it were some psycho killer? But there were guards on the gate. How could he enter inside? Plus, his guards were not ordinary guards. I knew that they were well trained to fight in a war like situation. So it was not easy to trick them and get inside. Only a very smart person could do that who knew all the ins and outs of the mansion.

I mentally smacked myself for scaring my own self. When I reached the threshold of the living room, I quickly prayed for my well-being.

Licking my dry lips, I took a deep breath and entered the room. But what greeted my vision was enough to stop my heartbeat for a few seconds as tears welled up in my eyes.

I saw Ermanno there, but what shocked me was the condition he was in!
